Jarry Smoked Meat specializes in the traditional preparation of high-quality beef brisket, cured and smoked using time-honored techniques. The menu centers on thick-cut, flavor-dense sandwiches served on rye bread with classic yellow mustard and crisp pickles. Patrons encounter a straightforward deli environment focused entirely on these signature meat-forward creations rather than unnecessary garnishes. Beyond the hallmark brisket, the selection includes hearty, thick-patty burgers and diverse sandwich combinations that satisfy substantial appetites. Every dish prioritizes the integrity of the seasoned meat, reflecting a commitment to authentic deli traditions found across the region. This establishment maintains a functional atmosphere where the quality of the smoked proteins remains the primary focal point for all visitors seeking substantial, protein-heavy meals in an efficient, no-frills setting that emphasizes consistent flavor profiles above all else.
Jarry Smoked Meat is widely regarded by many visitors as a staple of the Montreal food scene, frequently praised for its tender, juicy smoked meat and welcoming, family-friendly diner atmosphere. Long-time patrons and newcomers alike often highlight the consistently high quality of the signature sandwiches, the generous portion sizes, and the exceptional strawberry cheesecake as reasons for their return. While the vast majority of experiences emphasize friendly, efficient service and great value, a small number of reviews express disappointment regarding specific side dishes like frozen fries or occasional inconsistencies in meat quality and staffing interactions. Despite these mixed remarks, the establishment maintains a loyal following, with many customers appreciating the traditional, authentic experience that has remained a local favorite for decades.
The smoked meat sandwich was good, but it was expensive for what you get. The fries were disappointing, they tasted like the basic frozen fries a lot of restaurants use rather than fresh, homemade-style fries like La Belle Province. The dill pickle included was excellent, I even ordered extra on the side.
I also ordered the steak sub. It was generously filled, but the bread seemed undercooked & the sauce wasn't my favorite.
Overall, the food was decent, but for the price I expected better quality, especially when it came to the fries & the steak sub. Prices are high but are expected everywhere for these items nowadays
First time in Montreal & I'm so glad I stopped at Jarry Smoked Meat.
The staff were absolutely amazing & made me feel welcome right away. Since I had never been there before, I asked them to bring me whatever they considered their signature meal for a first-time visitor. They suggested the smoked meat sandwich with fries, coleslaw, & a pickle-& wow, what a great choice.
The smoked meat was incredibly tender, juicy, & full of flavour. One of the best sandwiches I've had. Everything on the plate was fresh & delicious.
For dessert, I asked my waitress what her favourite was, & she recommended the strawberry cheesecake. It was fantastic. I was already pretty full, but it was too good not to keep going. I couldn't quite finish it, but I gave it my best effort!
Great food, outstanding service, & some of the friendliest staff you'll meet. Experiences like this are what make travelling memorable.
I'll definitely be back if I find myself in Montreal again.
Highly recommended!
Jarry Smoked Meat vs Schwartz
Meat: Jarry's was much more juicy & tender than Schwartz, but the portion was smaller. Fries: Jarry's fries are the terrible frozen kind that are almost powdery, reminiscent of the texture of a frozen steak fry.. at least invest in the Cavendish coated ones? Schwartz offered freshly in house fried potato fries but are we really there for fries anyway?
I had gotten a poutine with those same fries & it came lightly dusted with shredded cheese….. squeaky cheese please for the love of Quebec!
Price: Comparable, around the same price range.
Overall, I would probably pick Jarry's for taste & juiciness of the meat but the sides are mediocre!

The smoked meat sandwich was okay (not impressive) but the wings were delicious. The place is very spacious & good for large groups. Our waitress wasn't very friendly, though.
Had a great Lunch with my brother & good friend. We we're greeted at the door immediately, with a smile. Waitress came to our table pretty quickly. Once the food cam the silence also began as we ate without talking to each other until we were done... Excellent smoked meat of course. Can't wait to get back & try some other items on the menu.
We were 3 , one had a onion soups with too many croutons & not enough onions . One had pizza , got it & then 25 minutes later the both of us received our food. I have smoked Big meat sandwich plate & a smoked meat plate.
I can not understand how a deli can have frozen French fries . Garbage fries, 1/4 pickles is not enough. Not my favorite coleslaw either, too liquidity . I took the bigger size of smoked meat but it was not big at all. I would be afraid to see what the regular size is. The smoked meat was average in taste. I will not be back & I believe it is overrated. Same your money, we had 35 minutes for lunch & it took over 50 minutes .
Was able to order a Whole Cheesecake for a Birthday party (24 hour pre-order).
Not to mention Jarry is a Go-To spot when we crave a good smokemeat sandwich.
One of the best I & My guests ever had.
Creamy & Silky YUMMY 🤤.
Loaded with Whole Strawberries.
We could have fed 20 people with the size of the cake.
staff is always friendly.
Thank you to the Staff especially the person who makes the Cheesecake.
Wet soft & highly processed smoked meat. Frozen fries with no soul. It had so much potential to be a good place for smoked meat, but failed on all levels.
Fast friendly service. The smoked meat was delicious & tender. If I was being really picky I would say that the portion of the Géant was not really enough or that much more than regular size
