I'm honestly very disappointed with my experience. This was my second time visiting, & unfortunately, it will likely be my last.

We made a reservation specifically because one person in our group is not from Montreal & absolutely loves the ramen from Yokato Yokabai. That's precisely why we chose to book a table.

When we arrived, the waiter informed us that because we had a reservation, we were not allowed to order the ramen (Yokato Yokabai). We were told we could only have it if we cancelled our reservation & waited outside instead (1h30). This makes absolutely no sense, especially considering there were several empty tables at Ichigo at the time.

It's difficult to understand the logic behind refusing a group of seated customers the opportunity to order the very dish that likely brings many people there in the first place. If Ichigo has such strong ratings, I suspect it's largely because of the popularity & quality of Yokato Yokabai's ramen served there.

In the end, we left without eating anything & went to another restaurant. It's unfortunate that the establishment would rather lose customers on a Friday night - with empty tables - than allow them to order what they came for.

Very disappointing experience.

The ramen broth is excellent-really rich & flavorful. For dessert, the mochi balls are a must-try. I'd recommend waiting at the door right when they open to snag a seat more easily

Ridiculous. We passed in front of that restaurant after a concert & it looked nice so we thought we'd finish the evening in style. We had no reservation so they took our number down & sent us a test txt. They said we would receive another one once a table for 2 would become available. They said the waiting time would be around 25-30 min so we got back to our car to stay warm & waited. We gave up after 1h45 min! without any news. We went to another restaurant but the options were very limited because it was so late now. Our night was basically ruined. It is now the next morning as I'm writing this review & still no txt. Safe to say they just brushed us off. It would've been nice of them to tell us the truth about the waiting time that way we could have opted for another option & would've tried them again another day with a reservation this time but by acting like this they made sure we'll never come back.

As we were paying for our bill, all I was thinking about was how I already couldn't wait to come back.

Before going in, I heard it was best to make a reservation & I'm very happy I did-so I definitely suggest doing so a week or two before heading here. The ambiance at the bar is gorgeous, but the seating area a bit deeper into the restaurant feels so hidden & surreal, with a very comforting & open atmosphere.

We visited as a group, so sharing plates seemed like the best option, & I'm so happy we did! Everything was so flavourful & unique. It makes for a great solo/partnered date spot, or a night out with friends! I can't wait to go back.

The service was good - but the food was very mediocre & really not worth the price … by a lot. Also loud & pretty cramped.

Came here for dinner, food was yummy. The saumon tartare, yellowfin tuna, & chicken bao buns were my favourite dishes of the night. Cocktails were also good. From seeing the rest of the restaurant I think the ramen is really the highlight.
As the restaurant is quite big & there's only 1 bar it takes a big longer to get the cocktails. Also the inside is very cute & has little stools to fit the vibe, however they aren't very comfortable.
Overall a nice spot!

Last night I went to Ichigo Ichie Izakaya, a Japanese izakaya in Montreal whose name translates to'this time only'… a reminder that every moment, & every meal, is meant to be experienced fully. It's written right on the menu, & somehow the food actually lives up to that philosophy.

I was there with my friend Farzy, who was invited to shoot content for the restaurant. She brought me along because I'm a hand model, a food lover, & honestly… we just always have a good time together. That energy matters. The night felt relaxed, unrushed, & very present.

We ordered a mix of cold dishes, hot plates, & noodles.

The Yuzu tuna tataki was bright & clean, with just enough citrus to wake up your palate without overpowering the fish.
The hamachi was the standout for me… genuinely melt-in-your-mouth, silky, & balanced. One of those dishes that makes you pause between bites.

For hot dishes, we shared the yakiniku épicé. I loved the flavor & the spicy sauce, but the cut itself was a bit too fatty for my personal taste. Still good, just chewier than what I usually go for.
The gindara (black cod), on the other hand, was everything you want it to be… buttery, delicate, & deeply comforting. Beware of the fish bones though…

We also tried the carbonara udon. I'll be honest, I'm not an udon noodle girl. I prefer thinner, less chewy noodles. But the flavor was nice. The bacon pieces were thick, crispy, & cubed nicely. Farzy asked for Japanese BBQ sauce on the side & we drizzled it over for a bit of sweetness, which made the dish work much better for me. That's something I appreciate… being able to tweak a dish to your taste at the table.

For drinks, I had the Shiso Sour, which was refreshing & light… the kind of cocktail that cuts through rich dishes really well.
Farzy had the Mango Majin Buu in the mocktail version, which looked fruity , refreshing , & fun.

There is always room for dessert even when you are stuffed so even though my jeans were tighter around my stomach at this point we decided to order a sweet treat. The tiramisu was great… it was light , creamy, & balanced, not overly sweet, the kind that feels comforting without being heavy. The monaka aisu, with its crisp wafer shell, red bean mochi , & green tea ice cream, was cool, delicate, & quietly satisfying.

The space itself is intimate, with small tables set fairly close together, so it can get lively & a bit loud as the night goes on. That said, I loved the atmosphere. The decor is beautiful, with murals of geishas & Asian-inspired artwork lining the walls, giving the room a warm, transportive feel. It's the kind of place where the energy feels buzzing rather than chaotic… especially if you enjoy being surrounded by conversation & movement.

One thing I noticed quickly is that Ichigo Ichie is connected to the Michelin-recognized ramen spot Yokato Yokabai Ramen, & you can customize a ramen as part of the experience. A lot of tables around us were ordering ramen alongside the izakaya dishes.

Service was warm, the pacing felt intentional, & the menu offers something for different tastes… whether you love rich dishes, lighter bites, or playful cocktails & mocktails.

I share local gems & cultural eats over on IG @foxyappetite & Tik tok @foxy.appetite, & this one truly earned its place.
