About

Hwang Kum delivers an authentic Korean culinary experience characterized by the interactive preparation of tabletop barbecue. Guests utilize integrated grills to sear marinated meats and fresh vegetables, ensuring a customized level of char and tenderness for every bite. The menu features an extensive array of traditional side dishes, known as banchan, which provide a diverse spectrum of fermented, pickled, and seasoned flavors. Every dish emphasizes bold profiles, utilizing essential staples such as gochujang, sesame oil, and garlic to maintain historical flavor integrity. This establishment prioritizes the communal aspect of Korean dining by focusing on shared platters and robust, hearty portions. The atmosphere remains centered on the functional preparation of food, allowing the quality of the ingredients and the specific techniques of traditional Korean seasoning to remain the primary focus of the experience.

Review Summary

Hwang Kum is widely celebrated for serving authentic and delicious Korean comfort food, with the seafood pancake consistently highlighted as the best in the city for its perfect crisp texture and flavor. Patrons appreciate the high quality of dishes like the beef ribs, bibimbap, and various noodle options, all served with excellent side dishes in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. While the restaurant space is intimate and often requires waiting in line due to its popularity, the fresh preparation and flavorful meals make it a highly recommended destination for those seeking a genuine dining experience. Checking the operating hours ahead of time is advised given their variable schedule, but the fantastic food and courteous service ensure that visiting this local favorite is well worth the effort.

Closest to halmeoni's cooking in the city. It has all the classic comfort dishes you want & definitely agree that the seafood pancake is the best in the city. The atmosphere is also classic, which I like. Only downside is there's little space so tables are quite close together.

Best Seafood Pancake in Montreal! Love this little family ran restaurant!

I always call before going just to make sure they are open as opening hours/day might not be exactly accurate, but still highly recommend!

Great balance of veg & protein with a great flavour & the perfect caremalized crisp bottom. The beef ribs (galbi) were rich & flavourful. Perfect marinade. & Bibimbap was delicious. Food is amazing, the seafood crepe is a must, although everything is delicious. Its a small place, so show up few minutes before 6pm when they open, otherwise you risk not having a spot to sit during first service.
