Review Summary

Hwang Kum is widely praised as a small, authentic Korean spot offering crowd favorites like the seafood pancake and pajeon, described as fluffy, flavorful and crispy with a sauce that enhances the dish; the large pork bone soup is a generous standout, and other orders such as beef bulgogi, samgyetang, tteokbokki and galbi are noted as tasty and well portioned. Service is described as friendly and fast, and banchan is appreciated, though the restaurant can feel busy and the prices skew a bit higher. It is regarded as one of the best Korean places in Montreal and a long-time establishment with loyal memories among diners, who trust the quality even after years away. Overall, the reviews present a consistent impression of delicious, reliable Korean fare in a small setting that rewards an early visit and leaves a positive, lasting impression.

Love this small family owned business. Best seafood pajeon in town, the place is very small & sometimes would have a line up but it's really worth it to wait in line. My kids love eating here.
The only thing is, if you decide to eat here make sure to check their google site first if they are open. Their operating days sometimes changes.

The food was absolutely delicious! Best Korean seafood pancake I've ever had. It was so fluffy, flavourful & crispy. The sauce it came with made it so much better. We also ordered the large pork bone soup, it was a very generous portion. My only critique would be the potatoes had an interesting texture to them that had me wondering if they were previously frozen.

One of the best Korean places I have been to, loved everything we ordered, it's a bit on expensive side, expect a bill of 70-80 for 2 for a decent meal.

Highly recommended it.

Authentique restaurant coréen, j'adore leurs banchan, seafood pancake & leur Galbi LA. Un peu cher & souvent très occupé, mais en général, toujours mon coup de coeur. Service amical & rapide.

An all-time favourite & long-time establishment. I haven't eaten here in some time but the reviews by people who have leave me confident they're as good as ever. If they're not keeping regular hours any more after all these years then all I have to say is: Thank you for your continued service to the community. I have many warm memories in your restaurant.

There's something cool about a place so exclusive it only opens periodically & doesn't take reservations. Show up just before it opens & hopefully you get a seat. Delicious Korean food, including an amazing seafood pancake. I love the little art pieces in the restaurant too.

Toujours bon. Un rapport qualité prix extraordinaire. C'est goûteux & authentique. L'un des rares à encore servir plusieurs banchans.

This restaurant is so underrated! Everything I've had here has been delicious. If you haven't been, I highly recommend getting the Haemul (Seafood) Pajeon & the Galbi beef ribs (I like it better than the L. A. Galbi). Their Mandu are good. Simple, warm & comforting. The Dak bulgogi (spicy marinated chicken) is good, if you prefer a saucier/curry like dish. The Sundubu jigae is solid & I would order it again (but I'm also trying to get a different soup every time because they are all so good). I've also tried their spicy bred & vegetable soup, the pork rib soup is great, & I really loved their spicy cod soup. I've also had the bibimbap & it's very good. The cold bibimbab (salmon bowl) & it's fresh & delicious! I wish they were open for lunch because I would order this again! I would skip the Jokbal. It's good, but I prefer the one from the Montreal Korean & Japanese Foods (grocery store on Sherbrooke st. West). Overall, I love this place! The portions are good, the food is tasty, & satisfying. It's one of the only restaurants that, even if I eat a lot, I don't feel bloated there day after eating here (another sign that they are using excellent ingredients). Call before going, however, because they are a small business, their hours vary (& sometimes they are closed 🥲).
