Georges deli was established in 1997. It is a family-run restaurant located in Laval. Our smoked meat is prepared the old-fashioned way. All briskets are spiced, aged, and smoked in house. Come join us for lunch or dinner and experience the taste of tradition.
Reviews consistently crown George's smoked meat as outstanding, with many calling it the best in Laval and a strong rival to the top Montreal delis, thanks to tender, flavorful meat and generous portions whether in sandwich form or on a plate with fries, coleslaw and a pickle. Take-out is available and most find the prices reasonable for the quantity and quality. On-site dining is quiet and clean, but the ambiance is plain, the interior is simple and there is no table service. Fries get mixed notes, some saying they are crispy while others feel the fries are not special. Overall, the experience is solid and dependable, with fast service and consistently tasty meat, though a few reviews mention decor and atmosphere as drawbacks.
Food. Smoked meat only. Asked for between lean & medium fat. It was very very dry. I was there at about 3:00 ish during the week & non one was in the restaurant. They sliced the meat promptly & I asked for a slice & tasted it, it was completely dry. This was right out of the steamer. I honestly stated it tasted very dry & they didn't say anything. I really wanted to return the meat as I knew the rest would also be beyond dry.
Service. Reasonably decent. There is a bit of a chip on the shoulders of the two fellows who were service as it was not a very welcoming reception at all.
Atmosphere. Basic deli nothing fancy at all. It is clean.
So I have eaten here years back shortly after the opened & it was pretty good. Their fries were nice as was the smoked meat.
So when I was in the area I thought it was safe to say that I'd stop by & bring back some fresh hot sliced classic Smokey meat with a rye bread for dinner.
When I arrived at home we immediately opened the container & did not hold back. We each took a slice & happily placed it in our mouths to devour with pleasure. Sadly this did not happen as planned.
First the meat was super dry beyond belief & only mayonnaise (not me) was able to make it somewhat palatable from a texture perspective.
The other thing we were able to notice was the changes in colour of the sliced of the brisket. What I have experienced is that when a brisket is not fresh, meaning it has been reheated in the steamer more than once, like the following day or for a prolonged time, this change in colour happens. To me this confirmed that the meat they served was not up to par with previous experiences.
The second issue was the taste. Aside from being overly salty (I am a salt fanatic so this means it's really salty), not to the point of being inedible, but so much so that all the flavour is salt.
This moves us to the next IMPORTANT point - the taste. I'm sure everyone has enjoyed the classic taste of Rubens, Lester's, Shwartzes, Dunns, & of course (Ben's from years past) & the likes of classic smoker meat places in Montreal. Well this smoked meat did not taste nor smell like any of them - not even remotely. It's not that it's bad per se, it's more like a let down as (like everyone) I wanted a Montreal smoked meat taste experience. I found out that they smoke their own meats in house. Perhaps their recipe is different? I do t know nor do I honestly care, what I do care about is keeping up the traditions flavour of Montreal smoked meat. Perhaps Montreal needs to install a standards certificate like Italy does with its cheese & France did with its wines etc. I would never call this smoked meat, smoker brisket yeah - but that's it.
So, I'm truly sorry to say that I am honestly unable to suggest eating here as I will not be returning either.
This is not person & perhaps my decades of eating smoker meat has hit a new standard that a'cut above the rest', but I do believe that I'm quite certain the couple of pounds I bought & had freshly sliced hot out of the steamer were definitely not up to the Montreal standard of smoked meat.
2025 update: still incredible! Just get medium fat & everything is butter smooth! Very very good smoked meat & fries, was there a couple of hours ago, definitely one of my best spots in Laval. Prices are similar to other places. They was a fat smoked meat sandwich, the fat isn't hard, it melts, absolutely delicious 🤤 always!
The smoke meat was tasty but not the best I've had. I didn't know that you order at the counter & your food is served on a cafeteria brown tray. The fries are frozen fries. The decor, well there is none to speak of & outdated. For the price they charge, I'll go to their competitor that's almost next door forthe same price. Won't be returning.
If you like Schwartz's Deli you will love george's. They're Almost identical. Medium fat sandwich is the move. Get the plate served with fries, coleslaw & a pickle. Reasonably priced for quantity & quality. 8.5/10. Edit: I reordered recently & I change my rating. Just amazing! *9.1/10*
Oh my god, have a medium fat sandwich & simply enjoy! The sandwich is filled with more meat than competition, the flavors are very very similar to Schwartz's. I couldn't have guessed blindly. The good news is that I don't have to go to Montreal anymore :) Friendly staff!

I've been eating here for well-over 20 years. Not only is the deli phenomenal, the staff (family-owned) is friendly & honest. Bathrooms are always clean. If you're in Laval & crave a juicy smoked meat sandwich, this is THE place to go.
Great smoked meat Sammie, better then the last time I was at Schwartz. Guys at counter were friendly & had smiles on. If I had a negative it was the fries but I wasnt there for the fries. Wish I got some to go.

The smoked meat is delicious & the amount of meat in a sandwich is too much! Not particularly liked the coleslaw or pickles. The fries are super good, too!
