Garden Room has delicious food. Flavor-wise, everything we ordered was genuinely amazing, & that's what makes this situation so hard to process.
However, during our meal, I found a long, thick metal stick in one of the dishes. The plate was meant for my 70-year-old grandmother. By pure chance, I was the one who scooped it with my spoon before she ate it. Had she swallowed it, I genuinely don't even want to imagine what could have happened. It wasn't a small fragment, it was large enough to be dangerous.
The staff refunded that specific plate, which I understand is technically standard procedure, but given the severity of the situation, it felt like the bare minimum. No escalation, no real reassurance beyond that, which left us feeling uneasy rather than taken care of.
That said, the food itself was excellent, & I want to believe this was a one-off accident. I would love to give the restaurant a second chance someday, but I'm also hesitant, because food safety is non-negotiable, especially when elderly people are involved.
I'm not writing this to be harsh, just honest. Amazing food, but a very serious incident that makes it hard to rate without hesitation.
Authentic Thai spicy restaurant in Montréal. My wife is from Thailand & she can attest to the authenticity of the menu & I can attest to the spicy dishes. Great flavors & very special restaurant for a night out or Special Occasion. We actually cancelled our reservation at another place because we heard Mae Sri Garden Room was much better. We agree completely

Lovely restaurant with a green house vibe serving a variety of Thai dishes - salad, rice, noodles, noodle soup - appetizers & delicious desserts. We came twice during our short weekend trip 😇 & enjoyed the Seafood Yen Ta Fo & Banana Roti greatly! Thank you Clayre for your kindness & excellent service!
Dear lord! Where do I begin…
Party of 4 for my birthday.
I just wanna start by saying the place is beautiful & cozy & very social media worthy. Needless to say, I had high expectations from the pictures & my love of Thai food.
Ambiance is ok. It could just use some music to make it a bit more lively.
Service was personable & welcoming. Although I think our general disappointment of the food & drinks ended up having a negative impact in the end unfortunately.
So here it is. The expression'Don't judge a book by its cover' applies here but not in the positive sense.
Everything looks great! But the taste is generally very mid. Not you'd expect from Thai food. & especially not at that price point. I expected elevated street food (which is generally less than 2$ per dish in Thailand) & what we got overcook, what seemed like 10x refried pork belly, noodle texture issues but the absolute worse was OFFENSIVELY SALTY dishes. One component specifically, the ground pork mixture, was shockingly inedible. So much so, that it made the dishes extremely difficult to enjoy. Other dishes were equally also overly salty even without that component in it. Even the drinks were salty!
Our very kind waitress offered replacements but at this point, we almost felt pranked.
The drinks were replaced by half full glasses of canned ginger ales at 5,25$ each…
We were hungry so we ate some but the whole experience was extremely frustrating.
I even felt the embarrassment from our server who didn't even come to bring us the bill or see us out, despite the fact no complaints were made & we were nothing but nice to her.
No compensations or complementary desserts were offered either.
Did I mention it was my birthday?
We all came home with stomach aches & I'm still completely dehydrated, waking up many times during the night to drink water.
EDIT: i came back here with my family & the experience was just awful. two of the three dishes we ordered were incorrect, one of which was under the vegan section of the menu but in reality was not... ?? very misleading. & don't order the hot pot -- what we received was a barely warm bowl of soup placed above a tealight holder for aesthetics only. how you can call that hot pot, i have no idea. The food was bland, which is surprising for a thai restaurant, & the service was slow & unpleasant as well.
After years of coming here regularly & this being one of my favourite restaurants in the city, i will not be coming back. It's a shame, because the ambiance is truly lovely & the interior is very well decorated. This experience really ruined my impression of the restaurant for good
Original: the food was so delicious & the service was absolutely incredible. if you're looking for alcohol, try the thai green shot - you won't regret it! five stars all around.
A very nice Thai restaurant we found on Google - surprisingly, it's owned by the same people as Pamika, which we visited 9 years ago. There's no restaurant sign. Their menu is quite diverse, making it hard to choose because I wanted to try so many dishes! Our server was Thai & very friendly. The food was authentic, & the restaurant had a cozy vibe. I especially loved the natural light coming through the glass roof. It was a really lovely experience.
We visited Le Garden Room for the first time to celebrate our 11th anniversary & were warmly welcomed with complimentary champagne-thank you to David for this thoughtful gesture! 🥂
The restaurant's aesthetics with the glass ceiling & greenery were cute & modern. I had the Violetta cocktail, which was light & refreshing-ideal for a low-alcohol drinker like myself.
We ordered the seasonal Lobster party Platter, which came with a variety of dishes including papaya salad, fried Mae Sri roll, pork balls, fish balls, Thai Hainan fried chicken, Pad Thai Mae Sri with shrimps & crispy lobster.
The portion was perfect for two & everything was delicious, though the selection leaned more toward fried items than expected.
For dessert, we shared the mango sticky rice with coconut milk & pandan-absolutely delicious & the perfect sweet (not too sweet) finish to the meal.
Jeanne, our waitress, was absolutely lovely & attentive throughout the evening.
Looking forward to coming back & trying the curry & braised beef next time. Overall, a great experience!

Good, service & atmosphere was fantastic. My server Jeanne assisted with my order (I ordered a few dishes to try), as well as offered a great drink recommendation. The speed & quality of the service was above par & Jeanne demonstrated both passion & enthusiasm in the fantastic service she delivered!
We're regulars at Mae Sri Comptoir - every time we visit Montreal, we make sure to eat there at least twice. This time, we happened to hear about a bigger branch of the same restaurant & decided to give it a try.
First impression? The space is beautiful. Much more open & spacious than the comptoir, & the menu has more variety, which got us excited to try new dishes. & the food did not disappoint, everything was delicious, & to be honest, I even felt like the flavors were slightly better than the other location.
However, the biggest red flag for us, & clearly for many others based on the reviews, was the customer service. I'm not sure if the Thai lady (possibly the owner?) was just having a rough day, but the attitude we got when we politely mentioned that we were just here for the food & wouldn't be ordering drinks really soured the experience. It wasn't just me, both of my friends felt the same discomfort.
So, 3 stars - & that's entirely for the food. Unfortunately, despite the upgraded space & even better flavors, we'll be sticking with our usual Mae Sri Comptoir where the service has always felt warm & welcoming. The Thai lady there is amazing.
Our family of four visited for dinner on a Tuesday. We did reserved a table but the restaurant was not busy that night.
The hostess was friendly & welcoming when we arrived, however the server for our table was not as warm & attentive. Nonetheless we still enjoyed our food & the ambiance.
I like that their menu has a variety of Thai dishes & not just the commonly popular pad thai/pad sew. We tried their Sukhothai & Baa Mee Mo noodles, as well as the hainan steamed chicken. Personally the portion was perfect size for me & delicious (not too salty). Though the papaya salad & thai iced tea were just alright, I've had better ones.
Overall it was still a pleasant experience. I'd visit again if I'm in the area.
Disappointing Experience - Poor Service & Unbalanced Food
We visited Garden Room - Mae Sri last night as a group of five, including two vegetarians, & unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing.
From the moment we arrived, the service was slow & inattentive. A thin, bald server with one earring attended to us, & his attitude came off as unwelcoming. It took 20 minutes just to take our order after we were seated. Throughout the evening, we literally had to get up from our table multiple times just to get someone's attention-for placing orders, asking questions, & finally, even to request the bill.
The only highlight of the evening was the bartender, who was genuinely polite & served us some well-made, enjoyable cocktails.
As for the food, we started with the papaya salad, which had good flavor but came in a very small portion for the price.
For mains, I ordered the stir-fried Thai vegetables with rice & my friend had the Pad Thai. We clearly requested them to be made moderately spicy (level 3), as we're quite familiar with spice levels at other Thai restaurants in Montreal. Unfortunately, both dishes arrived bland, with barely any flavor.
We asked for the spice to be adjusted, but what came back was the complete opposite-both vegetarian dishes were so excessively spicy that they were practically inedible. It felt careless & made the experience even more frustrating.
For a bill that came to $75 per person, the service & food quality were far below expectations.
While the ambiance was nice & the cocktails enjoyable, the overall experience-especially the poor service & the inconsistent handling of our food-makes it hard to recommend this restaurant. There's potential, but until the service improves & the kitchen learns to balance flavors properly, I wouldn't return.

If you come to this restaurant thinking the'vegan' section of the menu is safe, you are sadly very mistaken. Most of the food is cooked in a fish sauce & is not able to be made otherwise, including food marked as vegan or vegetarian. The only food I was comfortable eating was the vegan fried rice, which was delicious & not made with said fish sauce, but having made the reservation specifically for the pad thai & not being able to eat any noodle dishes, I was highly disappointed. The food was great overall but quite deceiving.
Flavours were ok but our experience was saddly deceiving. After receiving our drinks (that were good), orders were sent to the wrong table, we were placed at a table close to the entry door & were feeling the cold air everytime someone came in for Uber eats even if we asked when entering to have a table at the back (restaurant was half empty, the tables at the back were never taken throughout our 1h45min stay). Our main dishes came at best at room temperature & asked to correct the situation. We were told they would be remade but only to find that they were most likely quickly reheated in a microwave or something (meatballs & prawns were still lukewarm, my plate missing the same prawn I had tasted before asking to correct the situation). Our Pad Thai was a ball of rice noodles stuck together most likely for being waiting on a shelves somewhere. Noticed the staff a second time without correction. Staff seemed completely lost, we changed 3-4 times of servers. Our table was never cleaned of our previous plates from the appetizer or drinks. Would not recommend for the price, there are other great Thai restaurants in the city for this money.
Very quiet dinning experience. The dishes were fantastic! Authentic as can be. Although, when trying to pay cash, they have no change or cash on premises. Could be something they should look into.
The restaurant offers a variety of dishes with exotic flavors. The prices are reasonable. However, the service could use some improvement. The same staff member handled everything from welcoming us to taking orders & even providing the bill, which seemed overwhelming for one person. Occasionally, another staff member came out from the kitchen to assist. Overall, no other negative points to highlight.

Overall pleasently surprised. Location: thanks to the glass roof very bright during day & airy environment, rather cozy. Staff: friendly, but service a bit slow. But overall no complaint. Food: • Noodle Green Curry • Dried Noodle with Pork Balls • Longan Sticky Rice Both main dishes were fragrant. Unlike some reviews that say the food is bland, I think that they were properly seasoned. Thai food doesn't always have to explode in your face with flavours. The dishes had subtle notes of various ingredients, be it the lemon leaves, lemongrass, coriander, roasted peanuts etc. It seemed to me as if it was well balanced, subtle, yet well seasoned, so I can't understand some of the bad reviews. Longan sticky rice was not bad too. Not overly sweet. Longan most probably canned... Overall, they seem to serve dishes which you may not necessarely find in every other thai restaurant, which is nice. They upscale certain classic street food dishes & serve certain dishes which are more common in the north of Thailand. In general, if you want to discover thai food other than green or red curry, pad thai etc. I recommend to check out Garden Room.
Although the food is very well prepared & tastes great, the service at this restaurant is horrible. It took our waitress 10 mins to come to our table. By the time she did, we knew what we wanted to drink & what we wanted to eat. Our food came 10 minutes before our drinks, which was disappointing. The main dishes came out immediately & the waitress kept the dirty plates on our table & never came to ask us if the food was good, if anything was missing, for more water or for more drinks. So we're sitting here, at a table filled with dirty plates & no drinks just waiting for our bills, I guess.
Acquired taste for some of the dishes but I always go with the pad kra pao & it was savory. Anna, the server was very kind & curious. We enjoyed having her serving us.
The atmosphere is fantastic during the evening, definitely recommend going on a quieter evening to enjoy a calmer experience, especially on a date. The staff was very accommodating. The food is definitely heavy, & I recommend going for one of the popular dishes which tend to be their best selections. The drink selection is good too, but it's hard to pass up a good Thai condensed milk tea or coffee. Overall considering the location, its a nice time.
Beautiful place with delicious food! We had the Set Tum Tad, Thai fried chicken, & shrimp Pad Thai. All three dishes were excellent, made with fresh, authentic ingredients. The service was very friendly, & the waitstaff were attentive. We had a wonderful night!
