The service was impeccable, at times it felt like we had the entire staff taking care of us. My wife & I did the Chef's menu which was tailored a little bit for her tastes. The Seafood platter portion of the meal was excellent, & contained a great variety of items. For appetizers we had the Striped Bass & the Cucumbers which were both excellent. The main courses were also very good. Don't miss out on the carrots which came with the Swordfish & Black Cod which were both outstanding. dessert included the Profiteroles which were delicious. The wine list is excellent. Expensive, but well worth the cost!View more
Came here looking for the scallops when the friendly host David told me they were out & I was so disappointed. Then the awesome bar chef Ema came to my rescue! I told her to order me a seafood dish & I got the québécois swordfish which totally blew me away! As a snobbish New Yorker, Mon Latin goer this little place stole my heart. I don't eat meat, but I said this bacon tasted good. Spoiler, it was not bacon!!! It was swordfish belly smoked to perfection! The whole dish had crunchiness & delicious caramelized root vegetables. Ema also made me a super yummy mocktail, which was not too sweet. I'll definitely came back & bring my family in here as well. I had the mushroom side as my appetizer & that did not disappoint either. Thank you. Merci beaucoupView more
What was, isn't anymore
I had high expectations for this restaurant which features the'famous' chef Chuck Hughes. Unfortunately it didn't deliver on any account, most importantly the food. The 45 minute wait for the $58 plate of'fresh' coho salmon from BC with fava beans & caviar butter was served lukewarm & worse, was tough & didn't taste fresh at all. I should know as I am from BC & can cook a tender melt in your mouth salmon every time. This was a huge disappointment- upon returning the dish I received alot of apologies but really shame on this kitchen for not getting this right. The Chinese style grilled octopus also failed to deliver- tough & rubbery $38
My friend had the Hanger steak & found it to be'ok' a second appetizer: cauliflower mushrooms was actually pretty decent but by the time it arrived as a replacement for the salmon, I had lost my appetite
All in all the service was on the friendly side of ok, but I would have preferred a more mature & professional service. The whole experience really didn't justify the $250 tab for two & the reaction to my feedback was defensive & unsatisfying- this place had its glory days & I would say they are definitely over - food wise
Ambience is nice for a date but there are plenty places in Old Montreal I would choose next timeView more
Chapeau à l'équipe & au restaurant, on y retournera assurément!!View more
I didn't have a reservation & was lucky enough to be seated in the back area. Ordered 2nd tier chef tasting menu & a couple of drinks. One of the best restaurant experiences of my life.
Wes, Taylor, & the rest of the back area were incredible. Thanks for making this a highlight of my trip.View more
The food was outstanding, but what truly stood out for me was the service. It's rare for service to catch your attention like this, but the team here is exceptional. Their hustle is evident, & the attention to detail is impeccable-every little thing is taken care of with care & energy.
Oh & again, the food was amazing. We ordered the chef selection / tasting menu & it was amazing. The seafood, the beef & the sweet at the end - all A+.
Thank you for an amazing evening-can't wait to come back & dine at Garde Manger again soon!View more
This was my third time going. The restaurant has a tavern vibe to it, but the chef's menu always blows me away. At $125 per person, you get a seafood platter, multiple apps, multiple mains, & a dessert per person. We did the second tier at $175 adding on the amuse bouche starters. The service is great, the cocktails are fun, & they're great at accommodating dietary restrictions.View more
Here's a long, detailed Google review you can post about your experience at Garde Manger in Montreal & meeting Chuck Hughes:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Truly Unforgettable Experience at Garde Manger - A Must-Visit in Montreal!
Where do I even begin? Dining at Garde Manger in Montreal was nothing short of extraordinary, & it's an experience I'll be talking about for years to come.
From the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere was buzzing - lively yet cozy, with a warm, rustic charm that made us feel welcome right away. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, & the energy of the place immediately set the tone for what would become a phenomenal evening.
Let's talk service: absolute perfection. Our server was not only friendly & attentive, but incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They walked us through the specials, offered great recommendations, & somehow struck the perfect balance between professional & personable. Water glasses were never empty, courses were timed beautifully, & every request was handled with ease & care. It felt like they genuinely wanted us to enjoy every minute - & we did.
Now, onto the food… wow. Every dish was a masterpiece - both in flavor & presentation. You can tell there's passion & precision behind every plate. We started with the oysters, which were fresh & briny, served perfectly chilled with all the right accompaniments. The lobster poutine is every bit as decadent & delicious as you'd imagine - rich, comforting, & absolutely unforgettable. For mains, we had the duck confit & the sea bass - both cooked to absolute perfection, with layers of flavor that lingered in the best way possible. & of course, we couldn't leave without dessert - the sticky toffee pudding was the perfect sweet finish.
& then… the highlight of the night: meeting Chuck Hughes himself! What an incredible & down-to-earth guy. He came out of the kitchen with that unmistakable smile & took time to chat with us. It's rare to see a chef of his caliber so present & engaged, & it made our experience feel even more special. You can tell his heart is in this restaurant, & it shows in every aspect - from the menu to the vibe to the team behind it all.
If you're visiting Montreal - or even if you live here - Garde Manger is a must-visit. It's not just a restaurant, it's an experience: vibrant, memorable, & filled with culinary joy. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for an incredible night out, you owe it to yourself to come here.
Thank you to the entire team for a night I'll never forget. I'll absolutely be back - & bringing friends with me next time!View more
This was likely the single best meal we have ever had. Everything - from the moment we sat down until we left - was immaculate. The service was incredible (our waters never bordered on empty, our table was always cleaned, & we were even given a moist towel at one point between courses). We did the level 2 chefs tasting menu, plus the snow crab, & I'd say it was worth the upgrade. The lobster caviar was incredible, while the snow crab almost brought us both to tears. Every other dish was varying levels of great to fantastic, & the wine/cocktails were also excellent. Truly, everything was immaculate. In particular, the pacing with which the dishes came out deserves a special shoutout - we were never waiting, & once we started to slow down, the dishes did, too, to give us time. Absolutely recommend this place. High-end dining, but you will not leave hungry!View more
Superbe dining experience. Orrecchette was delectable & rich. The crab on brioche entrée also. The chef came out & chatted with us & others. Will definitely need to go back.View more
Dinner with colleagues from work. Tried the four course Chef's tasting menu & everything was excellent. Favourite items included the grilled swordfish & the salad.View more
Food here is amazing! Its opened by the celebrity chef Chuck Hughes. The octopus & tuna tartare was so good . As for the mains, the artichoke & scallops were done so well . The desserts are not on the menu so it could be different every night & the ones I got were delicious as well!View more
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Garde Manger in Montreal, & I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The restaurant's ambiance perfectly blends rustic charm with a vibrant energy that makes it feel both intimate & lively. The food was outstanding-a true testament to the skill & creativity of the chefs. Every dish was beautifully presented & bursting with flavour. Highlights for me included the fresh oysters, which were impeccably served, & the scallops that were cooked to perfection, accompanied by a deliciously balanced sauce. The dessert, especially the tiramisu, was the perfect end to an unforgettable meal. Equally impressive was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, & knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations for both food & wine pairings. Their professionalism & warmth added to the overall experience, making me feel genuinely welcome. Garde Manger is a must-visit for anyone looking for top-tier dining in Montreal. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this is a spot where you'll not only enjoy an incredible meal but also leave with a memorable dining experience. I can't wait to return!View more
Had a great time yet again at Garde Manger; I think this was our 4th visit at least, & it was great to have some variations, with the same level of quality on all fronts. The seafood tower & A5 Wagyu beef were the key highlights! We also had the chance to meet Chef Hugues, who was super friendly.View more
The staff were so incredibly friendly & knowledgeable. Chefs menu was outstanding & on the coldest day so far , the warm & cozy atmosphere was perfect. Will return hands down.View more
I tried to Dine at this restaurant every time I visit Montreal. I have now been there about seven times & have never been disappointed. My most recent visit was in October & this was A whole other experience. I asked the waiter to do something special & create something along the lines of all our favorite meals from their restaurant. What the chef created was nothing short of perfection. I travel based on culinary experiences, & this is probably the best experience of my life. This is not a cheap restaurant by any means, but if food ambience & service is as important to you, as it is to me, you will gladly pay for perfection I'm sure.View more
Overall excellent experience here at Garde Manger - some rough edges but ultimately memorable & would love to go back again. Tried the $175-value Chef's menu, & one thing that stood out compared to the few other tasting menus I've tried was the variety. Meaning, they don't just give you & my friends (party of 3) the same dish; for most of the courses we ended up with three different dishes that were fun to share & also complimented each other very well. While I wouldn't say any of the dishes were disappointing, there were some that I found to be just okay, like the amuse-bouche that started us off. It had caviar (my first time trying it), but it didn't leave much of an impression after tasting, which I was surprised by. Of course, when you're paying this much, you really want each dish to hit. However, in other courses where there was more of that aforementioned variety, anything that I found underwhelming would immediately be checked by something I found unique & delicious. This worked out pretty well, since each of us in our party had slightly different tastes. It's an interplay most apparent in what I assumed to be the show-stopper: a large plate of fresh seafood with different sauces & condiments (pictured). It's an arrangement that allows for some customization (what should I try first?) & conversation on preferences (do you like this more?) & I always enjoy meals that allows a party to engage in a dialogue in this way. One thing to know is that the music playing in the background was loud (maybe it paints a better picture to say it was playing in the *foreground*). I personally didn't mind it (probably because I was inebriated) but my co-diners found it a little much, & they're not wimps. It did make it hard to hear what the waitstaff were saying at times. Service was excellent. Though thinking back I don't think I saw any women among the staff, which strikes me as unusual. Is this common in fine dining? Unsure.View more
Hands down, the BEST culinary experience I've ever had! My friends & I had the chef's 4 course menu, & every single bite was absolutely exquisite. You can tell that every element of each dish was well perfected & treated with such care. The atmosphere was lively & joyful & the service was quick, highly attentive & detail oriented. 10/10 recommend & can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Montreal. It's a can't miss experience.View more
Creative, delicious, really high quality ingredients, cozy setting, just so great. One of my favorite fancy meals for a long time. About $700 CAD for the tasting menu for two, with two drinks each, including taxes & tips. A la carte would be less but the chef's menu was very good.View more
I mean.... I'm not even sure where to begin. I'd like to call myself a foodie that will not go to a restaurant before first looking up it's reviews, comments & social media page. With sush a high rating, it actually made me doubtful. I looked through the comments hoping to find negatives comments (which would still make sense even for a great restaurant) but, I couldn't find anything. Anyways ... we decided to go ahead & choose Garde Manger for our special couple date night. Let me tell you. Wtv could make you doubt about trying this restaurant, forget about it. The experience was IMPECCABLE from START TO FINISH! I even doubted the waitresses on her recommendations (I like to be smart like that haha) & I had to end up apologizing to her for attempting to not follow her recommendations We had the chef menu. Mind you, this restaurant is up there price wise but every single dollars is worth it. I've tried many highly rated restaurants, some overhyped, some very delicious but this one... I'm still 24hours later trying to find something to not give it the TOP 1 RESTAURANT I've tried so far in MTL. It is was it is. What you see in the rating, trust that your experience there should be nothing but short or perfection. Thank you Garde MangeView more

Signature Québécois-Canadiana dining @ 408 Garde Manger falls into the'must-experience' category - this is not your average'pantry chef' (translated)-themed restaurant, but a cool, nuanced, & intentionally-not-to-be-found seafood-focused eatery (despite the massive chandelier, open kitchen, & well-stocked bar top). An intimately designed but vivacious resto created by Chuck Hughes (known for defeating Iron Chef Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America, but his enduring accolades (Top Chef Canada, Chopped, Chuck & al Cuisine, to name a few) supersede that accomplishment), Garde Manger exudes Canadiana cottage time; imagery of canoes, backpacks, sandy firepits to cook up the day's fresh catch, married with eye-rolling innovative creations, from start to end. Presentation span wonderfully the spectrum, exemplified by delicately-prepared Turbot Crudo, laced with the freshest of herbs, all the way to roll-up-the-plaid-lumberjack-sleeves to slurp down briny freshly-shucked maritime oysters. Service for everyone. We were seated at the bar to indulge in our mid-level menu de dégustation - certainly sufficient for two. Our bar seating - while may not be for everyone - was on point; regular Bartender & Head Chef chat-ery, hustle-&-bustle for the eyes & ears, & attentive food & drink on display, all made for a vibrant, eclectic & fun experience. A pair of Amuse-Bouches started strong, with a quirky Homard Pogo topped with an incredibly generous porion of sturgeon caviar, followed by a contrastingly delicate, dill-infused Razor Clam, expertly prepped & served on shell. Observant wait-staff providing (almost too) efficient service & clearing - cadence for these experiences should be tempered, to allow for a fuller appreciation of the offerings, wouldn't you say? Thankfully, it did slow to a comfortable pace. The Seafood Platter did not disappoint. Maine lobster, Nordic shrimp, mussels, briny Oysters from NB, PEI, & Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, served up with a variety of house-prepared mignonettes & Chuck's own sauce piquante. Tres bien! Paired from this point a Kamptal Reisling, we savored Charred Octopus on a bed on seasoned baby potatoes, the aforementioned Turbot Crudo, & a dill Nordic Salad. We followed with their interpretation of surf & turf, exemplified by aromatic Hangar steak, alongside fresh yet savory scallops bedded on smashed potatoes. Merveilleux. Closing out with a serving of Nonino Prunella to pair with Profiteroles, & Crème Glacée breaded pudding. A degustation to remember; taste buds treated well with a marriage of flavors. Bières pour la cuisine! Hints- ample online pay-ahead-of-time parking next to GM. Bar seating: ask for the end bar seats. Mid-level Service can be filling, but not uncomfortably.View more
During a visit to Montreal, I had hoped to revisit Restaurant Le Diplomate, but upon learning of its closure, we opted for Garde Manger on a friend's recommendation. We tried the chef's menu, & each dish was a flavorful treat for my palate. The service was warm, helpful, & courteous. The fun playlist added to the lively atmosphere. The oysters were irresistible, perhaps the best I've ever had!
Not to be dramatic, but this truthfully was the best meal/ experience we've ever had. We got a short notice reservation at the bar @ 9:15pm. From the moment we walked in, until the moment we left, the service was 10/10. Our wine glasses or water cups were never empty. We opted in for the 4 course "chefs menu", & had a 2 different wine pairing recommendations. Everything was great - from the seafood platter, to the gnocchi with scallops, duck, beans with smoked tuna belly, carpaccio. We also got a cute little sparkler in our dessert dishes since we weee celebrating our engagement. Thank you Garde Manger team for the incredible evening!View more
By far the best meal we've had during our stay in Montreal, dining at Garde Manger was an incredible experience from the moment we walked in the door. The atmosphere is everything you want in the old city--exposed brick & stone, light just bright enough to enjoy the meal but not overpowering, tables set far enough apart to give a sense of intimate dining. The staff are outstanding. Our server was charming & attentive & never seemed rushed. The other staff supported him well & were equally attentive & polite. Our server helped us choose a crisp white wine, perfect on one of the hottest days of the year. We ordered the Chef's Menu & loved the cold seafood platter that came out first. I don't know how the cold lobster could be so tender, but it was. The salad course included a turbot dish & another with potatoes that we practically fought over--it was that good. The protein course included hanger steak & scallops, which were also excellent. I preferred the scallops--I'm not a fan of steak--& my partner preferred the steak, so that worked out well. We were full when the dessert course arrived, & somehow we devoured both the flourless chocolate cake (which we both usually dislike & couldn't stop eating until it was gone) & the lemon curd with a moist cake beneath, & this too we finished off & then sat back in a stupor after eating so much great food. On our way home we agreed that when we return to Montreal, we'll return to Garde Manger--in fact, we would come back to the city just to eat there. This place is that good.View more
