I recently visited Garage Beirut & had a mixed experience.
The fattoush was tasty & enjoyable. The sambousek was good as well, although it was missing the pine nuts that usually add an extra layer of flavor. The spinach fatayer was decent.
Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the fattet hummus. The dish contained plenty of nuts, bread, hummus, & yogurt, but it lacked the essential flavors that make this dish special. Where was the sumac? The cumin, garlic, mint, & rich taste of ghee? The overall flavor was surprisingly bland & underwhelming.
The khichkach was another letdown. The portion was very small, & it tasted more like kafta than the authentic khichkach one would expect.
Lastly, the knefeh seemed old rather than freshly made. The cheese was hard & lacked the soft, fresh texture that makes a great knefeh memorable.
Overall, while some dishes were enjoyable, several traditional favorites fell short of expectations, especially considering the reputation of the restaurant.
One more thing: the music. We used to hear beautiful Lebanese classics by feiruz & other authentic Lebanese artists. Unfortunately, the music selection no longer reflects that rich heritage.
It would be wonderful to bring back the classic Lebanese songs that so many of us grew up with.
I liked trying Garage Beirut, the food was good & the staff was great as well!
However, in terms of value for money, I did find it quite pricey for the portions served. We ordered the dip platter, which came with four individually sized dips to share, which was understandable. We also ordered one shish taouk & one kefta plate (+ 1 lemonade, +1 coke 0)
The kefta plate came with two skewers, some pickles, & a bit of onion & garlic sauce, while the shish taouk plate was basically the equivalent of two chicken skewers with pickles, half an onion & a bit of hummus. The portions were pretty small considering each plate cost around $25, which isn't insignificant.
In total, we ended up paying about $97, which felt like a lot for the amount of food we were served.
Really good place ! Very kind staff. We are vegetarians, ordered the dip taster & fatter hummus - both delicious & filling. Will be back when we are in Montreal :)
I've been in Montreal for five years & I can't believe I only had dinner at Garage last night. The food was incredible. One thing I really value about this restaurant is its authenticity & how the food is simply well done - Lebanese food as it should be - not an overpriced, complicated'story' of a dish.
Their kibbeh nayye was exactly how we'd eat it back home & it was amazing. The hummus, muhammara, cheese rolls, lahme sambusik, meat fatteh… wow.
Great experience, great ambiance, & great service. Thanks, Garage!
The food was amazing, only thing that its way expensive from other, & the dishes was not even full !! Like I had the shish tawok & the chicken was not even 100g for 25$ !! Same thing the meat whith hummus was not even 50g😅. It ended with me hungry with 100$ bill for 2 people.other ways still have a nice taste 👅
My friends & I traveled to Montreal for the first time & this was the first dinner location we tried. Lebanese food was new to most of us but we were excited to try! The atmosphere & interactions felt very cozy & personal, almost like we were joining someone's home for dinner.
The food was delicious! Being new to Lebanese, I was so excited to see many vegetarian options as well! I unfortunately did not get any pictures of the food! We tried the dip taster that allowed us to try lots of smaller plates of hummus, baba ghannouj, labneh, & muhammara. We had the tabbouleh & vegetarian kibbeh as well. But the star of the show for me was the fried cheese, rikakat jebneh!
Will definitely visit again if I come back to Montreal! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!
Everything was amazing, friendly pressure free service. The food was delicious reminded me of the food I ate growing up with an elevated taste. We had kebeh naye, fattouche salad, hummus fateh, & black with mint chai. the ambience is warm &
welcoming. I recommend this hidden gem
This delicious restaurant was recommended to us by a friend, & we were so glad we ate there! The flavors & quality of the food was excellent. The service was great: fast, attentive, friendly. We loved the sample plates of Baba Ghannouj, Labneh, Muhammara, Hummus, Kibbeh, & the Kafta. It's a cozy setting for lunch. Highly recommended.
Garage Beirut is an absolute gem in Montreal. The food was outstanding across the board, & the chicken shish taouk really stood out. It was tender, juicy, & full of flavor. The hummus & baba ghanouj were incredibly fresh, creamy, & perfectly seasoned. Everything we ordered tasted authentic & well prepared, & you could tell real care went into each dish. Overall, an amazing experience & I would recommend it to anyone looking for delicious, high quality Lebanese food.
