Step into Restaurant Gandhi and the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal give way to the fragrant spices and the aromatic flavours of the Asian subcontinent. Traditional Indian music plays as you dine, providing a gentle serenade to accompany your meal.
Unlike most indian restaurants, you will feel like you're dining al fresco: soft light, bistro-style tables with crisp white lines, and the yellow walls with their window-like cubby holes recall a sunset over the Ganges half a world away. Gandhi engages all five senses to create a memorable dining experience. For those who prefer a take out, our team will be please to prepare your meal with the same touch of love!

We loved our meal & the ambience at this Indian restaurant we decided to have dinner at, in downtown Montreal! The restaurant filled up really fast, but because we arrived early, managed to get a table without a reservation. We had flown in from California & our son from England to be in Montreal, & this was a perfect place to enjoy a conversation. The wait staff was very attentive, the food & wine was excellent, & the decor & table settings were very appealing to the eye. I found the tandoori roti, the daal fry & the palak paneer to be delicious, & the chicken dishes (which I don't eat) were enjoyed by others - we found it hard to stop eating actually, so decided not to have dessert :) I'll be recommending this restaurant to all my friends too.

I've never had better Indian food in my life. Every sauce, accompaniment, detail was wonderful. The staff were helpful & attentive. The desserts were beautiful & tasty. Definitely plan to come back.

This is one of my favorite spots to visit for lunch or dinner when I am in Montreal. It is such a pleasant little restaurant, with windows along the front & one side of the building, sunny, pleasant, clean, relaxing & friendly! The staff are so pleasant & helpful & quick to help you get your food selected & ordered, but best of all the aroma of all the wonderful, fresh, delicious spicy or mild food dishes wakes up your appetite in anticipation of tasting your order! It is so pleasant & relaxing to sit down here & slowly, peacefully enjoy a delicious meal! The desserts are amazing as are the drinks & lassie yogurt drinks. As well, the location near the Old Port of Montreal is so wonderful I always love to visit the Gandhi Restaurant. If you have a chance to visit & love authentic Indian Food I very highly recommend that you give it a try you won't be disappointed. Anthony

A wonderful break from French food. Plenty of mild dishes using familiar proteins. Recommend the thali, a sampler that includes appetizer & dessert for reasonable price. Dessert was beautiful & tasty.

This is an amazing place for food, ambience, taste & service. Md. Faruk Ahmed, the owner is phenomenal. He gives attention to each & every table which is commendable. Must visit this place. I visited here with family & it was worth coming. MUST VISIT FOR FINE DINING FOOD. I missed taking pictures of food but took pictures for Dessert. Overall amazing place.

Tout était parfait. Toutefois, il a fallu se lever & aller demander notre dessert qui était inclus dans le menu. C'était un brin gênant :) Sinon, nous allons y retourner c'est certain. C'était une très belle expérience gastronomique

The waiters were charming & efficient but after the main course they desserted us & we had to wave to them to ask for a dessert menu. I didn't appreciate that the Interact machine had tip options starting at 18 %.

Bonjour. En général, contrairement à l'habitude, je suis déçu. Premièrement, la qualité du français faisait défaut, à quelques reprises, nous avons dû communiquer en anglais car la personne ne comprenais absolument rien de ce qu'on voulait.
Deuxièmement, le service était précipité. Entre autre, il nous a servi le dessert pendant que deux d'entre nous étions à nos dernières bouchées de notre plat principal, il aurait dû vérifier avant d'apportez les desserts que nous avions tous terminés. Il a fallu mettre des desserts sur le bord de la fenêtre.
Troisièmement, après le dessert, nous sommes restés un bon moment pour jaser & ça a pris une trentaine de minutes pour que quelqu'un vienne nous servir de l'eau ou au moins s'informer si nous voulions autre chose.
Quatrièmement, nous avions spécifié de faire deux factures, une par couple, ça n'a pas été fait, on a reçu une facture globale, donc une fois de plus on ne nous a pas compris, encore une fois: la langue française?

An excellent meal. Ample portions. I had a chicken dish & my wife had a vegetarian one. & coconut rice. Both of us had naan. Decor was nice, really appreciated the linen tablecloths.
Our only complaint was the lack of attention after the entree. Nobody came by to see if we wanted coffee & dessert until we finally caught someone's attention. Both pistachio cake & rice pudding were excellent, although the portion of cake was small. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.

The best meal we had in old city Montreal! We were impressed with the service & loved all the dishes we ordered including an awesome special dessert. The variety of Indian dishes was extensive & the spice levels were exactly as listed on the menu. Definitely a must visit if you are in old city.

I went there for dinner & ordered Plat Gandhi in the main course. The food was delicious. The flavours were very nice. The Mulligatawny soup had perfect blend of lemon & coriander but the dessert just spoiled all the taste. The kulfi was very bad & this disappointed me & ruined the mood.

Excellent repas. Nous avons beaucoup aimé la nourriture. Toutefois, la personne qui m'accompagnait n'a pas reçu sa soupe au bon moment. Les deux entrées n'ont pas été servies en même temps, peut-être en raison des employés qui étaient débordés par les nombre clients très élevé lors de la soirée. Nous avons reçu un dessert en guise de compensation. J'y retournerai sans doute mais j'éviterai, à l'avenir, les moments de forts affluence (samedi soir) car cela semble avoir eu un impact sur la qualité du service.

Nourriture absolument délicieuse. Le service était courtois & super jusqu'à ce que le restaurant soit plein... avons attendu +++ pour le dessert (pas loin de 45 minutes). C'etait ok puisque nous n'etions pas pressés. Nous y retournerions sans hésiter.

Impeccable service & amazing food. We were a group of 9 & we were very well attended by the friendly staff. We even got complementary dessert at the end of our meal. The food is really authentic & fresh, very well worth the price. The place is beautiful & has a classy chic feel to it. Perfect for a romantic dinner. I would strongly recommend to anyone who's looking for delicious indian food. I will certainly be coming back.

We had a great time at Ghandi! All the staff were very attentive & kind. They were also very helpful when it came to choosing delicious dishes off the menu. I wish I had room to order dessert! Next time I come back to Montreal I will definitely dine here again, the atmosphere & cobble stone streets outside is beautiful! Thank you for having us.

Grande déception pour cette troisième visite chez Gandhi, le 31 décembre en plus! Mes deux derniers repas à ce resto étaient délicieux & le service impeccable. Cette fois, nous avons longuement attendu à toutes les étapes du repas, les serveurs étaient débordés, n'ont pas bien compris notre commande, n'ont pas été attentionnés. Le menu du 31 décembre était très cher pour la quantité discutable & une qualité standard. On nous a assuré que les plats au menu ne contenaient ni lentilles ou pois chiches puisque mon conjoint est allergique. Il y a des pois chiches au menu. On ne nous a pas offert de café ou de thé, ni expliqué ce que serait le dessert. Au final, on a trouvé le moyen de nous charger trois menus du 31 décembre alors que nous n'en avions commandé que deux & un plat à la carte. Le maître d'hôtel nous a bien offert un petit rabais du plat a la carte & des cognacs bien inutiles puisque nous n'en buvons pas & devions quitter. Bref, dernière visite pour nous.

Très très bien pour la nourriture. Les serveurs sont très prévenants. Tout s'est bien déroulé mais après le plat principal le service est devenu trop long pour commander le dessert & recevoir l'addition. Cette partie mérite d' être améliorée.
