My memorable first Iraqi meal. I normally don't order rice dishes & eat very small servings of rice, but I wanted to try the traditional Iraqi dishes. The lady allowed me to choose 3 different rice base for my plate, I think they were: Mandi, Quzi, Maqluba. I chose the smokey lamb to go on top.& I finished all of it, that's how good it was (coming from someone who avoids rice). The rice was moist, fluffy, tender & bursting with flavours from the cooked combination of aromatic spices, mingled with slivers of almonds & raisins, roasted vegetables & one of the dish had a distinct smokiness to it, as if it's been cooked on wooden fire on the sandy banks of a Mesopotamian river lined with palm trees. The meat was very tender, like it's been roasted then braised. 11/10 overall, highly recommended.
I don't even know where to begin. This place completely blew me away. I've eaten at countless restaurants across Montreal, & nothing, & I mean NOTHING, has come close to what this Iraqi restaurant is doing. The food is on another level entirely. Every single bite was packed with bold, authentic flavor that you can tell comes from generations of tradition & real love for the craft.
But what truly made the experience unforgettable was the incredible woman working there. Her warmth, her passion, & the way she made us feel so genuinely welcomed like we were guests in her own home is something you just can't find everywhere. She is an absolute gem & a huge part of what makes this place so special.
If you haven't been here yet, you are seriously missing out on the best food Montreal has to offer. This isn't just the best Iraqi food in the city. It's the best food, period. I will be back again & again, & I'm telling everyone I know. Do yourself a favor & go. You will not regret it.
My wife & I have tried numerous Arab restaurants in Montreal & this one easily was the best of the best. The food is flavorful & aromatic & is served with very generous portions. My Iraqi wife felt like she was transported back to her childhood eating here. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try Arabic food beyond just shawarma & falafel.
This is the clearest I can say it: This is absolutely the best Iraqi restaurant in Montreal. From the start, I hoped for authentic Iraqi flavors, & they delivered. Their dolma, qoozi,, bamia - Chicken or beef Mutabaq, & -each dish is top-tier. I haven't found a better place in terms of taste & quality.
Try their fish masgouf; it's something else! loved the Ramadan menu myself, with the Dalimiyah, the tashreeba, the qeema, & the masgouf-oh, the masgouf has a flavor like no other!also The cleanliness of the food is impeccable. You can even feel the care in the cooking-every dish is truly delicious. My Moroccan friends, after just one meal, They even make it a condition: My friends tell me that if I don't order from this restaurant when I host a gathering, they won't show up-that's how much they love the food & flavors!! also want to mention the woman who works there named Najah. She has such an elegant & warm approach-her hospitality makes you feel like you're not just buying from a restaurant, but that you're right at home. May God bless & protect her
-she truly elevates the experience!🩵😊🫶🏻
We ordered dolma & Iraqi biryani with chicken, the dolma was fine but the biryani was very dry & burnt & the chicken for sure is leftover chicken that's recooked & shredded into the bowl! We had high expectation that ended up with a big disappointment
My 1st time trying Iraqi food, it was incredibly delicious. Will be back for more!
It was my first experience trying Iraqi food, & it was soo satisfying.
It all starts with the welcoming people, great lady, helping me to pick the right choice; she even offered a bit of all 4 flavoured rice to taste.
You can instantly notice the cleanliness of the place.
& then the food, it was a generous meal, tasty rice, & the lamb meat, sooo tender with all the spices & flavors.
Finally, they offer tea or coffee.
An absolute must to visit.
