I was brought to this restaurant as a birthday surprise, & it was a fantastic experience. The food was delicious, made from Eastern European recipes I have had my whole life-- each bite delivered a palatable sense of nostalgia. The server, who was friendly also spoke three languages, & could clearly communicate with everyone in our party. Will definitely be coming again!
Ermitage: More Than Just a Restaurant - A Family Experience!
While visiting Montreal with my husband, we discovered Ermitage - & our experience there exceeded all expectations.
Galina, the exceptional host, along with her friend Nona who was working with her that evening, made the night unforgettable. Their genuine warmth & care made us feel so welcome that we didn't want to leave. We ended up spending more than four hours there, feeling like we were sharing time with very close friends.
We enjoyed pelmeni, vareniki, medovik, & olivie - every dish bursting with authentic flavors that reminded me of home. As someone from the same cultural background, it was a truly comforting & nostalgic meal.
That evening, two celebrations were happening, filling the restaurant with lively music, sparkling cakes, & golden crowns placed on honored guests. The joyful, festive atmosphere made us feel like part of a big, happy family. We were warmly included in the celebrations, which made the experience even more special.
Wishing Galina, her husband-the talented chef-Nona, their friend, & the entire team continued success & all the best in their wonderful family business. If you want authentic Eastern European cuisine served with heartfelt hospitality, Ermitage is a true Montreal treasure. I highly recommend visiting Ermitage!
Amazing lil place for a delicious eastern European treat. Devoted chef & owner will please your pallet with his classic creations. Menu offers great discoveries for anyone wanting to explore new flavors. Service is beyond professional, appropriate wine selection & other alcohols. A must try for the home made desserts.
Galina, thank you so much for your amazing place! Great quality food, nice atmosphere, & again - great European food! PS: sorry, guys, no photos cause we ate everything too quickly :)
Food: the food here is amazing. This is the single best Russian/eastern European that I've ever been too. The food was amazing & the recommendations were all spot on. I usually eat meat medium, they encouraged me that the best way for my meal to be eaten (the medallions i belive) was rare & oh boy it did not disappoint, it was one of the best meals I've eaten. I am also a huge hater of zucchini & was not going to eat it when it came with my meal, I ended up trying it & it was cooked to perfection. I split the tasting menu (witc was for two people, costed $110, gave 4 appetizers a main meal each, dessert & a drink)& everything on it was made with love & delicious. Service: The people that work at the restaurant are the nicest workers I've seen. It's clear they care about each consumer & value a nice, peaceful environment. They gave helpful truthful suggestions about what to order, made jokes with my party of four throughout the dinner, & when leaving encouraged us to take a lot of tiny candies on the way out. The service from beginning to end was amazing. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is very homey & peaceful. Though the restaurant is small, I've never had any trouble with getting a table for four. If anything, the restaurant allows for a nice personal vibe. The lighting dimmed with the light outside, it was made up of warm candle & overhead lighting. The decorations in the restaurant & wallpaper also furthered the homey feeling, it felt like going to a grandparents house. :]
Friends, I just discovered an incredible Eastern European restaurant in downtown Montreal! I went there for lunch today, & I have to say - I'm truly impressed! The borscht was a standout: rich, hearty, & bursting with flavor. The presentation was on point, making it feel like a special experience from the very first bite. The interior is warm & inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that feels like you're stepping into someone's home. It's the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, & enjoy a meal that's made with care. The location is super convenient, & what really added to the experience was the owner, Galina. She's so welcoming & friendly, making sure everyone feels right at home. If you're curious about authentic Russian & Ukrainian cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Trust me, you won't find anything better in Montreal! I highly recommend it - perfect for anyone who loves good food with a homey touch. Let me know if you want to go there together sometime! 😊
Possibly my best dining experience in Montreal. My partner & I decided to celebrate our anniversary here. Both being of Eastern European heritage, our standards are quite high when it comes to cuisine resembling our own - & I can honestly say that Ermitage blew us away. Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh, & incredibly authentic! Moreover, every single thing they serve is made from scratch. Each course of the tasting menu was a delight, & the amount of food served was perfect. We chose different main meals, both of which were made with meat so tender that it melts in your mouth. I also can't overstate how pleasant & attentive the service was. I'm so glad that we decided to celebrate our special day here, & am very much looking forward to our next visit!
the best European cuisine in the city! this place is wonderful! We came from Florida for a couple of days & just fell in love with this restaurant! the hostess is super! the food is great! It's unforgettable
Beautiful restaurant! Relaxing Atmosphere. Amazing & Attentive Service! Homemade Eastern European cuisine. 5 stars! I Definitely recommend! I was impressed from the time I walked in, to the time I left.
