Ermitage: More Than Just a Restaurant - A Family Experience!
While visiting Montreal with my husband, we discovered Ermitage - & our experience there exceeded all expectations.
Galina, the exceptional host, along with her friend Nona who was working with her that evening, made the night unforgettable. Their genuine warmth & care made us feel so welcome that we didn't want to leave. We ended up spending more than four hours there, feeling like we were sharing time with very close friends.
We enjoyed pelmeni, vareniki, medovik, & olivie - every dish bursting with authentic flavors that reminded me of home. As someone from the same cultural background, it was a truly comforting & nostalgic meal.
That evening, two celebrations were happening, filling the restaurant with lively music, sparkling cakes, & golden crowns placed on honored guests. The joyful, festive atmosphere made us feel like part of a big, happy family. We were warmly included in the celebrations, which made the experience even more special.
Wishing Galina, her husband-the talented chef-Nona, their friend, & the entire team continued success & all the best in their wonderful family business. A very cozy small authentic restaurant. We had the tasting menu & the food was good & you can tell it was home made. Almost like you were invited to a Russian grandmother's house. The waitress went above & beyond to make sure we had a good time, in a light hearted way.View more

Friends, I just discovered an incredible Eastern European restaurant in downtown Montreal! I went there for lunch today, & I have to say - I'm truly impressed! The borscht was a standout: rich, hearty, & bursting with flavor. The presentation was on point, making it feel like a special experience from the very first bite. The interior is warm & inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that feels like you're stepping into someone's home. It's the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, & enjoy a meal that's made with care. The location is super convenient, & what really added to the experience was the owner, Galina. She's so welcoming & friendly, making sure everyone feels right at home. If you're curious about authentic Russian & Ukrainian cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Authentic food & decorations which bring back memories about the home & childhood. Nowadays in most of restaurants a waitress brings you a plate with an attitude & expects 30% tip. Here you have a totally different experience of being welcomed as a special guest of the house by the hosts. The prices are a bit high but they do reflect the quality & taste of the dishes.View more
Possibly my best dining experience in Montreal. My partner & I decided to celebrate our anniversary here. Both being of Eastern European heritage, our standards are quite high when it comes to cuisine resembling our own - & I can honestly say that Ermitage blew us away. Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh, & incredibly authentic! Moreover, every single thing they serve is made from scratch. Each course of the tasting menu was a delight, & the amount of food served was perfect. We chose different main meals, both of which were made with meat so tender that it melts in your mouth. I also can't overstate how pleasant & attentive the service was. I'm so glad that we decided to celebrate our special day here, & am very much looking forward to our next visit!View more

I want to say thank you to the whole team! It is truly one of a kind experience & service. The food is amazing to say the least. I have been to multiple Eastern European places around Montreal & so far, this is my #1 spot! It tastes authentic & leaves you full, but not in unpleasant way, rather it makes you feel so cozy & snoozy, I felt like I was back at my Babushka's place back when I was a child. Besides the food, I feel like what ties the whole experience together are the servers! Galina is an amazing human being! She knows how to make you feel comfortable & will make sure throughout your dinner you have everything that you need & more! As well as Nana ( I hope this is how you spell her name 😊) is always there to fill your cup with fresh water & give fresh baked bread. Always smiling & happy, they make you want to come back for more! The atmosphere in the place itself is also on point! No loud distracting music! No big bright lights! Great atmosphere & service, the restaurant almost feels like a museum thanks to the antique russian decor. The staff is very friendly & know multiple different languages. The food is amazing & everything tastes home made & authentic. Would highly reccomend the cottage cheese blini especially. The pricing is also very good. I wish i could eat here every day :)View more

Visited Ermitage with my boyfriend last night. I've lived in Canada for 11 years now but am Russian-Ukrainian. The taste of food really hit home for me. I highly recommend this restaurant for some truly authentic Russian homemade food including Borchtch, Solianka & Chicken Kiev. You must have a slice of Medovik for dessert, it is to die for.
