I used to eat here ALL the time on weekends after pole classes when I was a grad student & it was one of my FAVORITE things to do with friends. I visited after three years & love to see that Pumpui is the same if not better & more popular lol. We got the spicy pork curry of the day, pad krapow & the salad with the creamy coconut dressing. All fantastic. No notes. Just delicious. Got the pear sticky rice for dessert. Also fantastic. LOVE the thai tea sauce on this. Also love the fact that they do a more seasonal pear sticky rice when mangoes are not as seasonal. My only complaint is that they're TOO POPULAR omg. If I don't get to pumpui soon after it opens, it's a guaranteed wait. Which is SO valid because the food is so good. The service people are nice tho & very diligent with seating. They have a small space & they do their best to have customers seated & flowing. They're also very communicative about wait times. I love Pumpui so much & wish them so well (so that I can always eat here when I visit Montreal!! 😁)
Very cute & relaxed place, it's giving diner vibes. Now for the food, we got the yellow curry (my favourite) & the red curry. I did not like the red curry at all!! It was way too oily & the eggplants were 90% seeds. It was also way too spicy so you couldn't taste anything else. Would not order again. The yellow curry with the fish balls was really good but I do think they are better Thai places in Montreal. Good if you're looking for quick & easy meal.
Somme toute, excellente bouffe, bon service & prix raisonnable.
I honestly don't understand the hype around this place besides that it's trendy. I have been twice now. The service overall was terrible. One server in particular was blatantly rude & very condescending to myself & other diners around as well. The food is just ok & very over priced for such stingy portioning. I have had much better authentic Thai food elsewhere. They don't remove the veins of the shrimp, & you barely get any shrimp in the pad thai goong. The fish ball yellow curry was tasty but also small & underwhelming & clearly used frozen fish balls.
The service was good, food was super good. We got the chicken wings, pad Thai & red curry. Really cool vibes
J'ai pris le plat au curry rouge aux aubergines & au poulet & c'était très riche en goût. Nous avons mangé en terrasse & l'ambiance était très sympathique. À mon prochain voyage à Montréal j'y retournerai certainement!
Had the fish curry & it was delicious! Some spice but not overwhelming. My family had the ribs marinated in coconut milk & sticky rice & they were very tasty. Super recommended.
Simply a must visit restaurant in Montreal.
I've never been to Thailand but Pumpui prides itself on serving authentic Thai dishes. I'll take their word for it because the flavours in their offerings are god damn sensational 👏👏
The fish ball curry is in my top 5 dishes in all of Montreal. Straight up.
Solid value for the price, service is great, & this summer they have a lil terrace in the back!
We came all the way from Jean Drapeau to Little Italy for this amazing Thai restaurant & it didn't disappoint us. One of our friends recommended this place & said this is their go-to restaurant every week (they come at least once a week). After trying it out, I totally understood why they were doing that. Amazing place worth going to this regular!
We ordered all three entrées to share. The chicken wings are definitely the best. The tofu pad thai was really tasty as well. Loved the fish balls in the yellow curry - very tender. The mango sticky rice was very fresh. The price was decently cheap, compared to the other famous Thai restaurant in town, Pichai.
We had a great time dining at this little cute Thai restaurant! It's definitely worth coming back again!!
Servers are very friendly & Green Curry is so tasty.Already miss that so much!
I can't emphasize enough on how good the food is. It food came out hot, tasted amazing! We got tons of suggestions from Savanna, & she was sweet enough to explain the flavor profiles to us as well :)
Absolutely loved the pad Thai, the fish balls in green curry, sticky mango & their AMAZING icecream.
Padthai was too salty & too sour for my taste. Curry was good. Service is ok.
It's okay Thai food. The portion size is a bit small for the price & there isn't much meat in the curry or khao soi. But the seasoning & spices are flavourful I also hope they eventually mix thai iced tea themselves instead of selling the canned versions.
Nice place to try! Green Curry is good, It won't be too greasy. Love chicken wing also, just pear sticky rice is too sweet. Anyways, good for lunch!!
Wow wow wow....! A fantastic meal in a cozy atmosphere on a chilly snowy evening. Unbelievable flavours, every bite a step closer to the sadness of finishing a memorable meal. Had the chicken wings, massaman curry, pad thai & pad paak with pork. The pear sticky rice dessert put it over the top. Umami overload!
This is one of my favorite chill places to grab an amazing bowl of curry. The hits every single time & the service is super fast. I thought I didn't like Thai food until I went to Pumpui!
We chanced upon this great place when we were wondering around the neighbourhood of Beaubien & Petite Italie. It has that Asian roadside cafe. The place was packed the night before, but luckily they also opened on Labor Day when many other places were closed. (Another Asian mentality!) I'm not a Thai food expert, but having had some amazing local food in Bangkok & Chiangmai, I often find London's Thai food a bit westernised. Pompui on the other hand, is not falling over to appease the typical western taste. Non messieurs dames! We had some very tasty options, which led us to return a couple of days later for our last lunch before having to return home. First lunch, we had their special of the week - a creamy Asian salad, which was like a "thin" coleslaw with a Thai twist of lime & fish sauce. The main courses were a beef laab, which was like sliced & spiced raw beef with an Asian salad that you could wrap with beetle leaves. It came with sticky rice; & a green Thai curry with fish balls & sticky rice. Both dishes were strong in flavour & stood up well to each other even if you were eating together. The laab was a new thing to me. I have watched many YouTube videos with Chef Yia Vang about the Laos food that talk about laab. This one is Thai, so you may regard it as either the big daddy influencer or subsequently being influenced. Who knows? You can taste the different saltiness & spices. Chew slowly & you get all the fragrance of the fresh herbs & vegetables. It's a chirpy tune with all the various notes. 2nd lunch - we decided to try out the other tasty items on the menu that we couldn't fit in last time. The fried chicken wings - oh yeah! Nuff said. You can taste the marinated wings that have a generous sweet chilli sauce dressing. Each wing is the full 3 joints. Not like KFC hot wings where they are only giving you one section as one piece. Crispness is maintained in every bite. So good we had two portions! Then we had the pork belly on morning glory. The waitress advised us to use the garlic vinegar, which is a condiment every table, as it helps to lift the saltiness of the pork belly. Oh boy, yeah, that's a fab dish that will make any pork lover happy for hours! Super friendly staff who can speak English, French & to my stomach! There are clearly a lot of locals who enjoy this joint. So go & check it out.
