About

Dragon Beard Candy specializes in the traditional Chinese confection made from sugar and maltose, crafted into thousands of paper-thin, silky strands. Skilled artisans pull and fold the syrup repeatedly until it achieves a distinct, delicate texture that melts instantly upon contact with the palate. The process requires precise temperature control and expert manual technique to produce the signature cocoon shape. These handcrafted sweets often feature a rich, nutty center comprised of finely ground peanuts, sesame seeds, and shredded coconut. Each piece represents a historical culinary art form that demands meticulous attention to detail during production. The resulting treat balances a subtle, refined sweetness with a characteristic soft, thread-like mouthfeel. This establishment focuses exclusively on this unique, labor-intensive craft to provide an authentic experience of this heritage-based confectionery delight.

🍬 Don't skip the dragon beard candy!
I feel like it's an acquired taste though ~it's good regardless.
What does it taste like? Unique, light, fluffy cotton candy with a nut-like flavour. (It tastes better than it sounds ~ TRUST)

Watching it being made is part of the experience, & you can really appreciate the skill & work that goes into every piece.
It can get busy, so don't be surprised if there's a bit of a wait-but it's well worth it.

The lady making the candy was incredibly kind, welcoming, & easy to chat with, which made the visit even more enjoyable.

It's such a cute little stop while exploring Chinatown. 🐲 #beardYondExpectations 🙈

Friendly service, delicious treats, & fast. You can't ask for more. We tried the dragons beard candy & the sweet dumplings & both were delicious. My wife preferred the candy & I preferred the sweet dumplings so you can't go wrong with either. Highly recommended as a stop.

I've been visiting Dragon Beard Candy in Chinatown since I was young, & it remains one of my favorite stops whenever I'm in the area. The chef is always incredibly friendly, & you can truly see the passion & care that goes into his craft.

The dragon beard candy is absolutely delicious-fresh, unique, & a must-try for anyone visiting Chinatown. It's wonderful to see a business that has stayed true to its tradition & quality over the years.

I'm proud to have supported this local gem for so long & will happily continue to do so for many years to come!

How important is Dragon's Beard Candy on your Montreal itinerary? If your flight lands in YUL at 1:45pm, is there enough time to buy OPUS cards, ride 747 to downtown, drag luggages from bus stop to Chinatown, & run into this tiny store before it closes at 4:30pm?

This was no idle musing, but real calculations my daughter & I contended before we flew thousands of miles from SFO. This was the high expectations we had for Dragon's Beard Candy of Montreal. & Dragon's Beard Candy did not disappoint!

For several years, we were able to get dragon's beard candy from a San Francisco shop. But that store has closed for quite some time presumably because this product is labour intensive to make. We are super psyched that we can visit this shop in Montreal! This Montreal candy is also better suited to our taste in that it has a better mix of handpulled candy fibres with nutty ingredients so it is less sticky when you do not eat it right away. The shop owner told us that her candy can stay well for a month in a fridge.

If you come to Montreal, do as we do: go to Dragon's Beard Candy on the first opportunity! During our one week stay, we returned to the shop three more times. It is that good.
