Décarie Hot Dog is widely described as an iconic, nostalgia-filled Montreal staple for classic steamies, hot dogs, fries and poutine, a retro spot that many visitors feel is worth the trek for the experience and comfort food. Several reviews praise the poutine for its rich gravy, cheese curds and hearty fries, with some calling it the best or among the best in the city. However, other comments note decline in recent years, with poutine that is too dry or oversalted, sauces that changed, and items that are not as hot or fresh as before. The hot dogs and steamies often remain a highlight when served hot and dressed properly, but some visits report cold buns or underdressed orders. Cash only payments and a fast, no-frills service style contribute to the old-school atmosphere, which reviewers either love for its authenticity or view as a drawback. Overall, the place is described as a beloved, long-standing institution that inspires strong loyalty and nostalgia, while also provoking debates about consistency and whether it can recapture its former level.
Had a chance to check this place out with one of my colleague & it was a great vibe. Ordered a couple hotdogs, fries & a burger. Food was great, but really came here to check out their story. Great people, good food & good prices. Definitely check them out.
It was the best of the best before It was bought sadly they changed the recipe for the poutine sauce. If anybody that works at Decarie hot dog sees this, please bring back the old sauce because this is the reason it was the best of the best restaurants for poutine in montreal
A true Montreal classic, hasn't changed in over 40 years (I used to go there in the 70s). Same food, same place, slightly higher prices, but that's to be expected.
Starting coming here as a kid in the 70's. Food, service were always fantastic! Today's visit was a complete disappointment. Hot dogs were good -can't really mess that up, but the poutine was nasty. Cold fries, a very thick & congealed gravy, & minimal cheese. The cheese didn't even melt. Definitely not the quality I was used to. These workers were definitely not the family owners. Sadly, I probably won't be back
Was my first time going there after a long day at work & service was super fast, very affordable. Was surprised my food cost me $29 for the amount I has. ( it was a lot & delicious) & as I was waiting i read their poster on the wall & was really touched by the one where we pay for a meal & people can come claim it. This is a business that care about people & the perfectionnism. Definitely gonna go back

I've been going here since 1995, & I went today after 30 years. & it still hasn't changed, & the people are still there family to family. it's wonderful to see the nostalgia & the unchanging business, but with the same quality food.
I've eaten here for as long as I can remember since I was a child. The food is always good, people are always nice & the quality has always been great! Best hotdogs in the city!
Other than the prices, the rest is pretty much unchanged since 1980 when I first started going there. I haven't yet found better steamy hot-dogs & fries in Montreal.
