Décarie Hot Dog is widely described as an iconic, nostalgia-filled Montreal staple for classic steamies, hot dogs, fries and poutine, a retro spot that many visitors feel is worth the trek for the experience and comfort food. Several reviews praise the poutine for its rich gravy, cheese curds and hearty fries, with some calling it the best or among the best in the city. However, other comments note decline in recent years, with poutine that is too dry or oversalted, sauces that changed, and items that are not as hot or fresh as before. The hot dogs and steamies often remain a highlight when served hot and dressed properly, but some visits report cold buns or underdressed orders. Cash only payments and a fast, no-frills service style contribute to the old-school atmosphere, which reviewers either love for its authenticity or view as a drawback. Overall, the place is described as a beloved, long-standing institution that inspires strong loyalty and nostalgia, while also provoking debates about consistency and whether it can recapture its former level.
Only cash, the poutine tasted like water... absolutely no flavor, it was a pain to finish it.... I went at 11pm so be careful maybe it was only the person working
UPADTE: I bought a frozen poutine for 3.99 at Provigo & it was better
UPDATE 2 YEARS LATER: Poutinr still taste really bad, hotdogs are good tho.

Still my go to'casse croute' but something is not right with the poutine. I feel like they changed the way they made it a few years ago. Not as strong of a taste. Not as iconic as it was & I ain't the only one to say so. Everyone that I know who's had it in the past year say the same thing. Please go back to the old sauce!
Had a chance to check this place out with one of my colleague & it was a great vibe. Ordered a couple hotdogs, fries & a burger. Food was great, but really came here to check out their story. Great people, good food & good prices. Definitely check them out.
I've eaten here for as long as I can remember since I was a child. The food is always good, people are always nice & the quality has always been great! Best hotdogs in the city!
Been eating there since 1987. 1st time ever, I've had stale oil french fries. The rest of the food was quite ok... Burgers & hotdogs. Regarding the service... It keeps degrading unfortunately... As though the staff was sitting on golden laurels. There is barely any customer-staff interaction. I'm starting to be disillusioned by this *used to be* burger Shack. Sorry staff... Please interact with your customers instead of just laughing between staff members. We feel as though we are NOT part of the experience. Thanks for listening. Perhaps I can restore a 5 star rating.

Une valeur sûre depuis plusieurs décennies. Contrairement à la fois précédente, mes frites & hotdogs étaient revenus à la hauteur de mes attentes. Merci & bonne continuation.
kind of affordable & it's pretty good. I always get the poutine for myself or two hotdogs for my partner. I highly recommend those. The employees are welcoming, except for the lady working there, she's often very dry & unapologetic. however, i really love eating after a long day at uni at night, the atmosphere is different
This place has gone downhill-it once had the city's best hotdogs & poutine, but it's been overtaken. Not sure what's happened. Poutine gravy watery & fries a bit off, hotdogs just ok. Ordered a club sandwich & noticed a quarter missing -it had obviously fallen off the plate because only the bottom piece of bread with some chicken remained. When I pointed that out the server counted them with her finger & then asked whether I'd eaten it...when I insisted that I hadn't she got me another quarter, to her credit.

This is a Montréal institution when comes to hotdogs & poutine. Went there early to avoid any traffic on the way. Loved the way the staff interacted & offered their services. It is a small spot & on a lovely sunny day, even enjoyable to sit outside & have a bite. I don’t understand why some has complained about the restaurant being small. Do they except fine dining like seating for hotdogs? To me it is just perfect.
The steamiest were one of the best I had in Montréal. Tried their breakfast eggs, toast & fries which was decent. Sadly no poutine coz I went early.
Street parking only so plan your trip accordingly.
