About

DaWa Chicken specializes in the authentic preparation of Korean fried chicken characterized by its signature thin, crispy batter and succulent interior. Each piece undergoes a precise double-frying process to ensure maximum crunch while maintaining the integrity of the seasoned protein. The menu focuses on a variety of bold glazes ranging from classic soy garlic to fiery spicy sauces that coat every inch of the poultry. Beyond the signature chicken, the kitchen manages a selection of Korean grill items that provide a smoky, savory depth to the overall flavor profile. These dishes emphasize traditional preparation techniques that prioritize texture and balanced seasoning above all else. This establishment delivers a focused, consistent experience for those seeking high-quality poultry prepared with specialized culinary methods.

Review Summary

DaWa Chicken is widely celebrated as a top destination for authentic Korean cuisine in Montreal, particularly for its crispy, high-quality fried chicken and flavorful tteokbokki. Guests frequently highlight the generous portion sizes, reasonable pricing, and the welcoming, attentive service provided by the staff, which contributes to a warm and comfortable dining atmosphere. While the vast majority of visitors report a consistently positive experience, some minor feedback mentions occasional inconsistencies with kitchen closing times and varying wait speeds during busy periods. Overall, the restaurant is considered a must-visit gem for those seeking delicious, well-prepared Korean dishes in a clean and modern setting.

One of the best places I've eaten in Montreal. We had the half & half boneless fries chicken, beef bulgogi & udon noodles were some of the best I've ever had. Cheese fries were delicious, fresh & crispy. Inside was not busy at all & the drinks were amazing.

The best restaurant I've been in Montreal so far! From the service to the food everything has been top notch, their chicken, from chicken only to the meal plans were all satisfying, their fries were crispy & soft inside. The cocktail given to us was sweet to the right point, although it was a bit too light but it was perfect for our night dine-in. An absolute must-try for whoever wants some chicken & not the usual fast food experience!

The fried chicken is perfectly crispy even with the sauce, & the cheese corn is fantastic!

I recently visited DaWa Chicken in Plateau-Mont-Royal. While there were some definite highlights to the meal, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag due to service speed & one specific dish.

The Good
• Fried Chicken Combo: This was the star of the show! The chicken was perfectly crispy & flavorful. We really enjoyed the variety of sauces & the crunch.
• Korean Rice Cakes (Tteokbokki): These came with fish cakes & a generous layer of melted cheese on top. The texture was great & the flavors were spot on. Highly recommend these two!

The Bad
• Seafood Pancake: This was a major disappointment. It felt like it was rushed on high heat-the outside was overcooked/burnt while the inside remained raw & gooey. It wouldn't hold its shape & just fell apart when touched. Definitely wouldn't recommend ordering this.

The Service
• Wait Time: We waited about 40 minutes for our three courses to arrive. For a casual dinner, that felt significantly too slow, especially considering the kitchen timing issues with the pancake.

Final Verdict: Go for the chicken & the rice cakes, but maybe skip the pancakes & be prepared to wait a while for your food.

The chicken was crispy but not as warm as I expected, didn't feel freshly fried. The beer, though, was great & really hit the spot!
