Dandy operates as a sophisticated bistro that emphasizes the intersection of artisanal culinary techniques and market-driven ingredients. The interior design reflects an industrial aesthetic characterized by high ceilings and expansive windows that illuminate the open dining area. Menu offerings focus on elevated classic dishes, featuring thick-cut sourdough toasts topped with seasonal produce and house-made ricotta. The kitchen consistently utilizes fresh, locally sourced components to construct balanced plates that favor structural simplicity over complex plating. Patrons experience a lively atmosphere where the focus remains strictly on the quality of the prepared food and the functionality of the workspace. This establishment balances the casual nature of a market-inspired café with the technical precision of a focused bistro kitchen. Every element, from the beverage selection to the curated seasonal vegetables, demonstrates a commitment to ingredient-led preparation methods.
Dandy is widely celebrated for its exceptional brunch offerings, particularly the ricotta pancakes, which many guests describe as the best they have ever tasted, and the crispy fried chicken sandwich, which frequently earns high praise for its quality and flavor. Visitors consistently highlight the fresh, high-quality ingredients and the beautiful, modern atmosphere that makes the restaurant a must-visit destination in Old Montreal. While the popularity of the spot often results in lines, especially on weekends, many guests feel the delicious meals, vibrant energy, and attentive, welcoming service provided by the professional staff make the experience entirely worth the wait.
I almost stayed an extra night in Montreal just to go back again for breakfast! Had the shrimp coquette with soft boiled egg (a fresh, citrusy feast for both eyes & palate) along with the crispy smashed fingerling potatoes (served with a garlic mayo, drool). Seriously awesome.
if you are looking for breakfast in montreal - this is the place!! after being let down by Brasserie 701's menu, we kept walking & found this beautiful spot for breakfast. fate would have it, we showed up 5 minutes to open & were seated immediately. food was AMAZING. service was kind & fast, & the portions were amazing, we had leftovers for a snack home. Of the many dishes we ordered, all of them tasted amazing. Almost no improvement is needed to make these dishes perfect. Probably the best meal I have eaten this year! If you're going to come here, I strongly suggest if you're coming for breakfast, to order the strawberry ricotta pancakes & the crispy smashed fingerling potatoes. The service was pretty good, bro not the best it could be. At first, our waiter seemed like he was very patient & wasn't afraid of talking, but almost when we were halfway done with our meal, our waiter seemed as if he didn't want to really talk & help us, however this didn't at all make an impact on the rating & my feelings of this restaurant. Don't forget to order the crispy smashed fingerling potatoes!
I've been to this restaurant twice & I want so desperately to like it, but it always just misses the mark for me. The first time, I tried their Ricotta Pancakes, not realizing the seasonal fruits are an extra charge! Overall, the pancakes were okay, but not as amazing as I expected them to be. Bacon is another extra charge & tasteless, which made for $7 down the drain. I also arrived as soon as they opened at 10am on the weekend & there was a bit of a wait, with a line out the door. The second time I went, I tried the Endless Summer Breakfast, which I enjoyed more than the pancakes. The seasoning on the avocado was absolutely delicious. The toast was a bit too hard for my liking, but the rest of the plate was lovely. This time, on a weekday around noon, there was no line. Both times, the wait to receive food after ordering was about 15 minutes long, enough time to chat but a bit too long for my tastes. Dandy is pricey, no doubt about it. If you want food & a drink each, you're looking about an $80 bill for two people.
Food was yummy & came quickly. I like that they don't have too many options on the menu. It's Easier to pick something out. It was a bit pricey in my opinion but still worth trying out. My husband & I paid 85$ for the both of us. It is very loud in there, so don't go if you want a peaceful quiet breakfast
Spectacular breakfast. We devoured it so quickly we didn't get very good pictures... lol. The depth of flavor on the pancakes, with the browned butter & maple syrup, were incredible. Pancakes were moist & fluffy. The strawberries were delicious--definitely worth it. The mushroom toast was unbelievable. I've never seen a restaurant go so hard on a mushroom dish. This toast was sauced generously, & piled high with fungi. The egg on top was perfect, too. Wow.
Breakfast @ Dandy !! I loved the vibes. Makes you feel you're in Italy somehow ! There was a 10 min wait, but that did not bother me. The staff were very nice & knowledgeable with the menu. I had the Ricotta Pancakes with the lemon butter. They come in a stack of 3 in a pool of maple syrup. It did not have the "wow" effect for me. I guess I am not a big fan of the zesty flavor or the added Ricotta. It took away from the original taste & flakiness of the pancake. They were good but different. Good choice for breakfast or lunch.
We ordered ENDLESS SUMMER BREAKFAST & PANCAKES. In my opinion both were pricy based on portion. Even coffee we ordered was pricy too! I ordered americano which was served in almost espresso size! The endless summer breakfast was served with only one egg (& one dough) for $22.99!! Also, you should pay extra for a pinch of pistachio & extra sweet syrup for your pancake for $7! (No fruits)
We celebrated Mother's Day with a delightful brunch at this restaurant, choosing from a spread that included Mushroom Toast, Ricotta Pancakes, & the Endless Summer Breakfast, with extra Crispy Bacon ordered at an additional cost. Each dish was beautifully prepared, & the uniquely unsalty, beef jerky-like bacon, though pricier, was definitely worth trying. The quality of the food & the warm, friendly service from the staff made our special day even more enjoyable.
