Dak Hing Barbecue comes across as a small family run spot that consistently delivers authentic Chinese BBQ at surprisingly low prices. Reviewers celebrate the crisp and juicy roast pork with crackling skin, the rich char siu, and the fatty, flavorful duck, all praised for good value when bought by the pound or as takeout and for fast, friendly service. The setup is cash only and takeout oriented, with some notes that atmosphere is minimal, but the emphasis remains on high quality meats and reliable portions. Tasty extras like taro cake and zongzi are mentioned around holidays, while the downsides include occasional bland pork or steamed vegetables, a duck that can be bone heavy, and the reality that this is not a dine in experience. Overall, this is viewed as a dependable, no fuss Cantonese BBQ option in Montreal, often ranked among the best in the city for authenticity and quality, with many customers returning for the crispy skin pork and savory roast meats.
Best bbq we ever had in Mtl! The bbq pork is really good & juicy. The duck & char siu are top notch! Been there twice & the food + services are consistent. Definitely our go-to place for BBQ meat.
Roasted pork was bland. No flavour. Very suprised as most places use a good amount of salt. Maybe it was the cut of meat I got. 🤷🏻?♂? Bbq pork was a little better. Had some flavour. Vegetable was just steamed so no flavour which is normal. Usually when people are hungry, everything taste good. Not in this case. I was very hungry & did not enjoy the food.
Dak Hing Barbecue is a small family run spot led by a sister & brother, & it puts out the best roast pork in the city. The skin is crisp, the meat stays juicy, & the flavor hits exactly how proper roast pork should. Their char siu is just as strong, rich & caramelized without being overly sweet.
Service is fast, no fuss, cash only, & the prices are surprisingly low for the quality you get. It's the kind of place you rely on because it delivers every single time.
Great quality Chinese food. I came here expecting a filling meal for a low price & I got one. Don't miss out on the sticky rice & bbq pork. Just be mindful the roasted duck has many bones which was pesky to eat but it was very fatty & juicy. Workers were very nice & were patient with me trying to e transfer since it is cash only & no seating only takeout. Definitely coming back here again. 9/10

I went to Dak Hing Barbecue because it was supposed to have the best Chinese BBQ in Montreal. The restaurant is a small hole in the wall place near Plamondon Metro station. The service is friendly & I ordered my usual soy sauce chicken along with roast pork. Not the best Chinese BBQ I have eaten, but it was pretty good for Montreal.
Let's be clear here, this is not an eat in place it's for take outs hence one star for atmosphere.
Service is very nice & accommodating & prompt as you are in a line.
Food is excellent & fresh.
They sell by the pound as well as lunch combos.
Let's break this down. I've eaten here for years with 100% consistency. I have never been let down.
Unless you go to Chinatown or other distant old school Chinese places this one of the authentic & reasonably priced delicious places to get this type of cuisine.
Lunch time people come in non stop to get food to bring home & eat lunch - like I did in the car.
So, they have pork sausage, duck, wings, & then pork ribs & pork from various parts of the body - you select what you want.
I have tried all & they are all yummy, but for me the absolute delight is the crispy pork with that crunchy skin & tender meet. They give you a dip but it really does not need any other flavouring.
Try it & you'll fall in love with this no nonsense place that serves honest to goodness home made food at adorable prices.
Montrealers typically say: Go to Toronto for good Chinese food. I generally agree except for Dak Hing. Everything is authentic, delicious, & even better than the best that I've had across the GTA. It's obvious everything is thoughtfully & craftfully made when they source their meat from local farms. We have never been disappointed here. Their ??? (taro cake) for the Lunar New Year is THE best. (We order in advance - they are so popular!) We enjoy their ? (zongzi) during the Dragonboat festival too. Dak Hing keeps me connected to my roots & I appreciate their hard work so much.
