In 1861, Thomas Wilson first established its hardware store at 400 Place Jacques Cartier and for over 155 years, this building stood at the very heart of the Old Montreal. In 1970, the iconic French restaurant Chez Queux moved in and would remain there for well over 40 years.
Today it is our turn to leave our mark on this legendary Montreal building. We welcome all who come by, providing food the way we like it, simple, fresh and delicious. After a long day of sightseeing or while on a break from your bicycle ride in the Old Port, drop by Comptoir 400, we are always happy too see (and feed) you!

The food was decent. The burgers were decent, but the pizza was subpar. Didn't taste the freshest, & the drinks were mostly watered down. After multiple servers coming to our table multiple times for the sides we had ordered when placing our meal order with our server, we had to wait to have everything we had requested. At the end of the meal, we were heckled to pay 15% tip & were told that the servers would have to pay if we didn't pay the required tip. The attitude & response from the server regarding it was really disappointing & felt disrespectful. We were willing to pay a tip, but being asked to pay more & telling us odd rationale didn't sit right with us. She said how it was mandatory to tip 15% in all of Canada- which, we've traveled all over the country, where is that the norm? The servers behaviour & attitude was dis heartening; especially, after a long wait time to get our order taken, waiting for our dinner & on top of that being heckled for tips.View more

We stopped by Comptoir 400 for a casual dinner & enjoyed a delicious large pizza & fresh salad. The flavors were great, & the ingredients tasted high quality. The setting is cozy & modern-ideal for a quick, satisfying meal.
Service was friendly, but a bit rushed. We asked to have the salad first & the pizza after a short break, but both arrived at the same time. Also, the drink selection is fairly limited, which might be a downside for some.
Still, the food quality & overall vibe make this spot worth a visit. Just a bit more attention to pacing & service details would make it a five-star experience.View more

July 2025: Unfortunately, I have to update my 5-star review from 2023 to 2-stars for this restaurant. The food quality has dropped, the portion sizes have reduced substantially & are way too small for the price, & overall I would not visit again after this experience.

This used to be a great & affordable spot in the Old Port, but things have definitely changed. They used to offer a large pizza, perfect for sharing in groups, but that's no longer on the menu. Now you're limited to small, average-tasting pizzas that cost over $20, which might make sense if the flavour were truly Italian, but unfortunately, that's not the case. Let's be honest: this place was never known for the best pizza in town, but it stood out thanks to the generous portions & great location. That said, if you've been before & were planning to return for the large pizza, don't bother, you'll likely end up wasting your time & money, just like my friends & I did. Nous avons passé un excellent moment dans ce restaurant , La nourriture était délicieuse ,nous avons goûté à deux pizzas différentes, un hamburger ainsi qu'une poutine, & chaque plat était savoureux & bien préparé. Le service était remarquable, assuré par un serveur très professionnel & expérimenté, toujours attentif à nos besoins. L'ambiance était agréable & chaleureuse, ce qui a rendu notre expérience encore plus plaisante. Je recommande vivement cet établissement à tous ceux qui souhaitent bien manger & être bien accueillis. Stopped for a quick bite while walking around the port & Old Montreal. Shared a quattro formaggi pizza, which was great with a nice crispy edge & great cheeses. Also had a sweet nutella pancake with strawberries & banana. Sat on the terrace with a nice view of the adjoining port & square. The lady serving us was very nice & patient with my bad French :-)View more

I used to frequent this restaurant in Old Port quite often for a long time, & it used to be my favorite spot. I adored their pizzas as they were of excellent quality & absolutely delicious. However, on my recent visit, my experience was utterly disappointing. The quality of the pizza has significantly decreased, & it tasted quite sour this time. While the service was never exceptional, it was decent in the past. However, during my last visit, our server got our order wrong. When the food was brought to us, we informed them that it was not what we ordered. After a while, the waitress returned with the same pizza, insisting that it was our order. Despite their mistake, they did not take any corrective action. When we mentioned that we had ordered an extra-large size, the waitress refused to acknowledge it & instead suggested adding another large pizza to our order, claiming that the other size would be too big for us. After a long wait & growing frustration from hunger, we reluctantly agreed, & they served us the same cold pizza that had been brought out before & took another order. The second pizza arrived about 30 minutes later, but at that point, we were too frustrated & no longer had an appetite. We took a few bites & ended up leaving. The cleanliness of the restaurant was just okay, but the bathrooms were extremely dirty.View more

She welcomed us with a friendly smile & provided top-notch service throughout our meal. She would wave & play with our kid & make him smile & laugh. Mariam was attentive, ensuring that our glasses were never empty & that we had everything we needed without being intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the pizza & crepe.
