Each drink is made personally from scratch after chatting with the bartender about what you like, so every cocktail feels like a fun surprise. The drinks were creative & delicious. It's a small place & can be hard to get into, but totally worth it. The bar itself looks amazing & the atmosphere is top-notch. Would definitely love to go back.
A very unique experience.
No menu. You simply tell them what you like & they have a decision tree about what drink to make.
Through talking with the bartender, I learned of a couple new drink ideas.
Great service, intimate atmosphere, well designed drinks. You won't be disappointed.
Atmosphere: 9/10
Tucked behind a tailor shop in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, this speakeasy delivers an upscale & intimate experience. The small mirrored room cleverly feels larger than it is, anchored by an impressive backbar & a mix of bar stools & rear tables. The suit tailor-speakeasy concept places this bar in the same league as Dandy Room (Beijing) & Taylor Adam (Singapore). The overall layout even evokes Opium BKK in Bangkok. Music sits at a perfect volume for conversation.
Drinks: 9/10
Recommendation: Bartender's Choice
There is no menu; cocktails are crafted based on guest preferences. The bartenders excel at translating flavor requests into perfectly balanced drinks. High-quality glassware & coasters are used, though presentations are minimalistic, often without garnish. A welcome drink is offered upon arrival.
Service: 9/10
Water is served on arrival, & the team is attentive & friendly. Coat service is provided. Prices are slightly above average for Montreal, but the personalized service justifies the cost.
Best (& smallest) speak easy in town! Bartenders & cocktails are just amazing, all custom made
Intimate, oak-paneled speakeasy vibe, located behind a men's clothing shop. Doorman & bartender were professional & friendly. No menus - you give your desired alcohol & flavor profile & they make you a unique drink. I stuck with mezcal, first a fruity & then a savory direction. Both delicious! Best for small groups & quieter convos - you wouldn't want to get rowdy or loud in here, it's too small : )
Still Great, But Less Personal
Cloakroom Bar remains a top-tier speakeasy in Montreal, offering an intimate & exclusive cocktail experience. The hidden entrance & tiny space add to its charm, making every visit feel special.
The cocktails are still expertly crafted, but the experience feels less personalized than before. Previously, bartenders engaged in a deep conversation to tailor your drink; now, they ask three quick questions & get to work. The quality is still there, but the magic of true customization feels a bit diminished.
Still worth a visit, but longtime fans might notice the difference.
Very small, intimate bar with no menu - each bartender will make custom drinks depending on what you like or are craving. My advice: know what liquors, flavours & cocktails you enjoy (& don't) for the best experience.
Was visiting from out of town & read great things about this cocktail bar. It did not disappoint. The drinks were delicious courtesy of Jay the bartender. Whether you're a local on a first date or from out of town, this spot is perfect for all. Hope to come back soon.
Thanks for some great conversation, Jay
best bar experience hands down. concept of no menu & making drinks accordingly to your taste preferences & mood is nothing but amazing. bartenders are very friendly & will guide you through the whole experience. each drink was unique & decently priced.
You arrive to this location & wait in line, there are only 25 seats, & it is first come first serve. You are seated facing the bar which alludes to a "show" but it is crampt & the server / bartender decide what to make for you. A tad expensive for what it is in comparison to other speakeasys.
Small place, probably fits 20-25 people. Drinks are ok, overpriced. The bartenders put on a good show. Don't ask for an espresso martini or lychee martini they have neither. Bar stools have no backing so after a while your back starts to feel it.
This is a go to spot for Old fashioned's. I love how they start you off with a mixer that's brewed in house & the bartenders are always on point with the recommendations
Very much enjoyed the experience here. The menu-less experience is a particular plus for me, & the bartenders deliver. Lots of complex flavors well balanced against each other.
Hey this review from head bartender has experience of 8 years Jey the manager it is the man he is l professional, pay attention to very small details for your drink with passion & respect also you feel you there is someone serving you in a excellent way & worth you money you pay his really pro
I can see why this bar is ranked as one of the best in North America. From the semi-hidden door, to the little touches such as the playing cards used for coat check, it's a truly unique experience. The atmosphere is incredible & the staff are so attentive- & while the drinks are pricey, the customization & flavour makes them worth the price. We came a half hour after they opened & were seated immediately, but the small space was filled the entire time they were there, & the bartender told us how on busy nights there can be 30+ minute waits to get in. Highly recommend going early!
A place you just want to gatekeep but can't help but tell everyone!! This place is a must go when in Montreal. The personalized cocktails & mocktails are out of this world. Our bartender was Vincent he was phenomenal & his drinks were outstanding.
Honestly, a bit disappointed when I had the drinks here. Initially, when they give you a welcome drink, I thought this place was going to be amazing. The welcome drink was delicious! Whatever that drink was, it was stellar & thought everything after would be of that quality. I think the concept is incredibly interesting, being able to tell the bartender your flavour preferences & then have them provide you with a drink. However, my friends & I did not necessarily love our drinks. It tasted a bit like the juices that are too artificial to put in the fridge in grocery stores mixed with a bit of alcohol. Perhaps it might have been the bartender we got that night & we got unlucky, but 4/4 of our drinks that we ordered were simply not so good.
They don't have a drink menu. You tell the bartender what you like & he makes you a drink. 3/3 Max did an awesome job. I loved everything he made. Starred it for next time we're in town. NOTE: it's a very small place (25 seats). If there is a long line you're probably going to be waiting a long time. We tried to get in on a Saturday, but didn't want to wait (as we were leaving someone said they had been waiting over an hour). We went back the following day & got right in.
Little bar with no menu. Bartenders are knowledgeable of drinks & can put a nice spin on your cocktails! We visited out of town; highly recommend going right after it opens & before dinner hour as they do get busy & only accommodate 25 people.
Our first experience with this place was amazing, but has been overshadowed by our second. Bad one: The person at the door was the most wild customer service experience I've ever had. That's fine if you have a "no more than 6" policy, but no one in our group was rude to him & he was awful & aggressive right away. That's fine if you turn us away, it happens, but at least treat us with some decency. We brought a large group, hoping to split off in small groups in any way they would allow. No issue if we needed to sit completely apart, if some had to wait in the lobby because the space is so small. We were even making jokes that we would go in 3/3/2 & pretend we didn't know each other. We also came right when they opened to make sure we didn't bother them at rush hour. Ultimately, he just wanted us to leave & would not communicate with us about alternatives. 4 of us ended up leaving, & the 4 newbies went inside. They said it was fine, but they were upset as to how the rest of us were treated & it clouded their experience as well. Also, there was plenty of room for us the entire time they were there apparently. Policy is policy, but at least treat people better when you have to use it. That conversation could have gone 100 different ways that would have resulted in us wanting to come back another time. Good one, 5 stars: For small groups, it really is a lot of fun. Our first bartender was amazing & we loved all the questions he asked us to get us the perfect cocktails. He really made us want to come back again, obviously. 10/10 I would recommend just answering the questions as they ask them, rather than bring up your favorite cocktail & try to get a spin on it. The creations my friends had were delicious & nothing I would have thought of before. Really a one of a kind experience for us!
