About

ChuChai specializes in sophisticated Thai cuisine rendered entirely plant-based through the creative use of soy, seitan, and fresh vegetables. The menu replicates traditional meat-based textures and flavors, offering items such as crispy mock duck, aromatic red curry, and savory stir-fries infused with authentic spices. This establishment maintains a commitment to replicating iconic dishes while strictly adhering to a vegan philosophy. Diners encounter a variety of plates featuring fresh herbs, coconut milk, and bold chili heat that defines classic regional Thai profiles. The interior provides a relaxed atmosphere suitable for exploring plant-based interpretations of Southeast Asian staples. Every dish demonstrates meticulous preparation, ensuring that each component contributes to a balanced and flavorful experience that challenges conventional perceptions of meat-free eating while delivering substantial, satisfying portions that honor the culinary traditions of Thailand.

ChuChai is widely celebrated as one of the best vegan destinations in Montreal, consistently impressing both long-time vegans and self-described meat lovers alike. The restaurant is renowned for its sophisticated, authentic Thai flavours and highly convincing meat substitutes, with the crispy duck emerging as a standout favorite among many diners. Guests frequently highlight the extensive, creative menu, the welcoming and attentive service, and the pleasant atmosphere as key reasons for their repeat visits. While experiences with service consistency vary occasionally, the overwhelming majority of visitors find the culinary quality and presentation to be outstanding, making it a highly recommended must-visit spot for anyone looking for a unique and delicious dining experience.

My husband I, on our rare date night, visited C&C... drawn to the premise of highly rated vegan Thai food. We were not disappointed. Everything from the food & drinks to the ambiance & the attentive staff was excellent. We will go back!

Loved our dinner at Chu Chai! The wait staff was great & I really enjoyed the food. We were 6 diners & it was perfect.

I think the Curry bowls were probably the best bet. I had the Pad Thai & it was good but could have used some veg as I used to get in non vegan ones before I was vegan (green onions & carrots).

Since becoming vegetarian, one of the foods I've missed the most is THAI -- There is fish sauce in everything. ChuChai has been the perfect solution to this problem. I (& my omnivore friends) don't even notice the difference. I've been back 3 times in the last month & can see myself going there regularly for my fix of peanut sauce!

Staff is very friendly & service is quick. My only complaint is that the drink list didn't have ingredients listed, but if you ask the wait-staff they will happily recite what every drink on the menu contains.

Definitely recommend!

Whether vegan or not, If ChuChai was your go-to Thai place & you haven’t visited in a while, you’re in for a surprise. NO, the soy-product pseudo pork, beef, duck, shrimp, haven’t been replaced by the real thing (shhh, calm down) – it’s still a veg resto specializing in Chi-Thai meals that look, & to some extant, taste like meat/seafood. NO, aside from the addition of the En Masse mural outdoors, the décor hasn’t been dramatically transformed. But those are good guesses, thanks for playing. The surprise is that the separation between “ChuChai fine cuisine” (to the left, to the left) & “Chuch bistro,” has meant some menu/price/clientele changes.
