Review Summary

Across multiple visits to Chez Lionel, diners describe a lively, stylish French brasserie with strong execution of classic dishes and a few standout highlights like duck confit and tartare, alongside some inconsistent offerings and occasional elements that miss the mark. The menu's event options are praised for value, while regular portions and certain preparations draw mixed feelings about price and quality balance. Service is repeatedly described as attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, though experiences vary with crowds and timing. Ambiance is described as warm and upscale yet comfortable, with a Parisian vibe that many enjoy, especially for meals before or after shows and celebrations. Some guests note long waits or noise during peak times, and a few dishes are critiqued for being overly salty, oily, or underseasoned, but overall many diners leave impressed by the quality, presentation, and the lively atmosphere.

Great restaurant for upscale ambiance without being fussy. Close to Bell Center & a lot of activity, perfect on hockey night (they have 2 screens behind the bar, but it's not a'sports bar', it's more elegant.
Staff is very friendly but competent too. My duck magret was tasty, presentation could be improved
Good selection of wine by the glass.
Great place for a date in a lively but elegant atmosphere.

My husband & I were in town for a short visit & stumbled into Chez Lionel on a whim, without a reservation. We were greeted very warmly & shown to a table where we enjoyed a phenomenal meal. Everything, from the cocktails to the lobster bisque, fried oyster mushrooms, duck confit, hangar steak, & charcuterie & cheese board, was absolutely exceptional. The entire staff was friendly & welcoming, but John's service was outstanding. I would absolutely recommend Chez Lionel in a heartbeat!

When we went, there was an event menu where you can get one starter & one entree for 50$ CAD, which is a really good deal! The salmon tartare was great, slightly sour & very creamy, but the duck confit was amazing! A wonderful sweet salty sauce & soft duck with crispy skin. Would recommend!

We dined at Chez Lionel on a weekend evening. The food was ok - but not up to par for what we paid. The steak tartare was weirdly seasoned, duck confit sauce stuck to the plate which was too hot, salmon tartare was bland, ravioli undercooked & grainy, & creme brulee was the thinnest I've ever seen. The restaurant is beautiful, but the quality could be improved.

Edit: reached out to email owner sent & got no response.

Went for lunch on December 23rd. The price was $42 for 3 course lunch & it was phenomenal.

For appetizers, we got the lobster bisque & beef tartare. Bisque was nice & beef tartare was a fun experience to eat. Would probably order something else for it since it was out top choice in term of taste but it was a fun experience.

Main entree was duck confit & the chicken Dijon. Both were amazing. The duck confit was tender & skin was crispy. The other ingredients in the dish was delicious. The chicken Dijon was creamy & flavourful. Highly recommend these two dishes.

Dessert was fresh & light. Not too sweet. It had raspberry, vanilla cream & sponge cake. It was the dessert of the day so others might get something different.

Service was great & they were kind & it didn't felt weird for us to eat there while wearing sweat pants. We definitely had people looking at us, might be because of what we wore.

The bread they gave as a complimentary was hard & not really fresh(it felt it was out for a bit too long) but the butter with it was good.

I like the food at this place the duck was really delicious & tender & the beet salad was just amazing. The fish was tasting good as well. When I ask the waitress if we can sit on a table that I found more interesting they didn't refuse my request, & I found it very, very polite. The price was reasonable, based on the quality & the atmosphere comparing with other restaurants the price was lower, but the quality of the food was even higher.

Crowded & vibrant vibe. Service very good. Oysters were fresh. Fois grais & devil eggs very good. Steak with fries good. Ravioli good. Only disappointment was the duck confit which was too dry but sauce was very good.

Chez Lionel is a French bar & restaurant located at the southeast corner of Drummond & Rene Levesque West. It is located directly across the street from the Sheraton Hotel & close to the Bell Centre.

The spacious restaurant was opened around April 2025 & occupies two floors. The manager, Nick, explained the second floor can be used for a private function for about 100 guests.

We tried some of their classic French dishes. The appetizers, escargot & foie gras, were delicious & full of rich flavour. The server also gave us slices of complementary baguette & a jar of mini pickles.

For main course, the duck breast, the Basque chicken & sole meunière did not disappoint.

The restaurant gave us a crème brûlée to help us celebrate a special anniversary occasion.

Chez Lionel is a great French restaurant serving locally sourced ingredients. We enjoyed our dinner. Highly recommend it.

We visited with a group of 8 adults & 3 children. We made a reservation & the staff had set a table up for us with high chairs ready to go. Our waiter Brandan (sorry if I am misspelling your name!) was attentive, friendly, & knowledgeable about the menu. We had a variety of dishes (lobster bisque, the lobster, duck raviolis, beet salad, ny strip & the sole) & everything was really delicious! You can tell that the menu is deliberately crafted. All of our beverages were really good too, especially the eclat d'agrumes! Presentation was tidy & eyecatching & we will definitely come back the next time we are in Montreal! Thank you for the experience & for takkng care of me & my family :)

The management & hostess are children. The owner should hire better people to revive the restaurant. The big restaurant only filled several tables on a Friday night.

The lobster bisque was a pitiful lobster broth served lukewarm. They should take it off the menu. The Caesar salad & the duck breast were delicious.
