Review Summary

Chez Lionel is widely praised for its elegant French bistro atmosphere, stylish decor, and overall excellent dining experience in the heart of downtown Montreal. Many guests highlight the high quality of the food, particularly the lobster bisque, beef cheek, and duck confit, while frequently noting the professional, attentive, and welcoming nature of the service staff. The restaurant is a popular destination for those heading to events at the nearby Bell Centre, with many diners appreciating the ability of the staff to accommodate large groups and provide efficient service on busy nights. While most reviews are glowing, some guests have noted inconsistencies in dish preparation, such as overcooked or overly salty items, and occasional delays during peak hours. Despite these mixed remarks regarding timing or specific culinary preferences, the majority of visitors feel the sophisticated ambiance and friendly, dedicated team make it a standout choice worth visiting.

It was a wonderful experience! The service was excellent. One of the servers, David, was especially kind & friendly. The atmosphere was quiet & pleasant, & the view was beautiful.

The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the Duck Confit & the Hanger Steak. The Duck Confit was super crispy on the outside & tender on the inside. The Hanger Steak was cooked beautifully & was just as delicious.

To finish, we had the Profiterole for dessert, & it was amazing! We loved every part of our meal! Highly recommend!

Great food (tuna crudo; duck confit). Excellent service (David; including on-point wine recommendations). Location isn't exactly intimate, but nicely done.

Lovely looking restaurant, nice ambience, friendly service. Food disappointing!!! Ordered a Caesar salad which was the worst of my life!!!! Nothing but croutons & bacon. No lettuce to speak of! Drenched in overpowering dressing. Inedible. Had the duck confit as my main, dry as shoe leather, almost inedible. Had to spit most of it out as it was so hard & dry. Served on a wilted bed of frisée & a few roast potatoes. Bah! I'm going to give this place one more shot & order something basic. Wish me luck!

We ordered beef cheek & duck parfait, onion soup croquettes, & a lobster flavoured soup.

We liked all of it, but duck Parfait was all of our favorites.

Our waiter David was informative, patient, attentive. All in all it was a great experience.

Great restaurant for upscale ambiance without being fussy. Close to Bell Center & a lot of activity, perfect on hockey night (they have 2 screens behind the bar, but it's not a'sports bar', it's more elegant.
Staff is very friendly but competent too. My duck magret was tasty, presentation could be improved
Good selection of wine by the glass.
Great place for a date in a lively but elegant atmosphere.

My husband & I were in town for a short visit & stumbled into Chez Lionel on a whim, without a reservation. We were greeted very warmly & shown to a table where we enjoyed a phenomenal meal. Everything, from the cocktails to the lobster bisque, fried oyster mushrooms, duck confit, hangar steak, & charcuterie & cheese board, was absolutely exceptional. The entire staff was friendly & welcoming, but John's service was outstanding. I would absolutely recommend Chez Lionel in a heartbeat!

When we went, there was an event menu where you can get one starter & one entree for 50$ CAD, which is a really good deal! The salmon tartare was great, slightly sour & very creamy, but the duck confit was amazing! A wonderful sweet salty sauce & soft duck with crispy skin. Would recommend!

We dined at Chez Lionel on a weekend evening. The food was ok - but not up to par for what we paid. The steak tartare was weirdly seasoned, duck confit sauce stuck to the plate which was too hot, salmon tartare was bland, ravioli undercooked & grainy, & creme brulee was the thinnest I've ever seen. The restaurant is beautiful, but the quality could be improved.

Edit: reached out to email owner sent & got no response.

Went for lunch on December 23rd. The price was $42 for 3 course lunch & it was phenomenal.

For appetizers, we got the lobster bisque & beef tartare. Bisque was nice & beef tartare was a fun experience to eat. Would probably order something else for it since it was out top choice in term of taste but it was a fun experience.

Main entree was duck confit & the chicken Dijon. Both were amazing. The duck confit was tender & skin was crispy. The other ingredients in the dish was delicious. The chicken Dijon was creamy & flavourful. Highly recommend these two dishes.

Dessert was fresh & light. Not too sweet. It had raspberry, vanilla cream & sponge cake. It was the dessert of the day so others might get something different.

Service was great & they were kind & it didn't felt weird for us to eat there while wearing sweat pants. We definitely had people looking at us, might be because of what we wore.

The bread they gave as a complimentary was hard & not really fresh(it felt it was out for a bit too long) but the butter with it was good.

I like the food at this place the duck was really delicious & tender & the beet salad was just amazing. The fish was tasting good as well. When I ask the waitress if we can sit on a table that I found more interesting they didn't refuse my request, & I found it very, very polite. The price was reasonable, based on the quality & the atmosphere comparing with other restaurants the price was lower, but the quality of the food was even higher.
