indian(32) chicken(26) spicy(14) paneer(10) recommend(9) naan(9) crescent(8) dishes(7) butter chicken(6) tandoori(6)The food was okay but the service was so poor. Their worker are new & i think they just need money from our pockets. No management. We were four in group & guess what, their food was so expensive, every single person paid $39+tax & i paid $45+tax. I ordered Kadhayi chicken with 3 butter naan & one taj beer which was not good at all. Plus the service was so slow. I don't think I would like to come over here again better to go 3-amigos for easy going & chill food where you can have good quality food. I've been to Tandoori flame in Brampton one & I think the Indian which I had there was good enough. Indian-Beau was one of the good as well.
Devi is good yet expensive!
I went for supper here because it looked like pretty place & i like indian food. I do have to admit the first thing that struck me is butter chicken for 19$ is too much! I will admit that it was good, but when u pay 19$ u expect to have alot of it thing is everyone got max 8 pieces of meat in theyre order. Other then that naan & rice is not included it's 4$ each.Everyone at my table payed at least 30$ each without alcohol, everyone said the taste was good but the quantity for the price was not worth it.Some of them left hungry :(. All in all good food if you dont mind paying.
I come to Devi at least once every couple weeks & it has never failed to satisfy. The garlic naan is amazing, fresh out of the oven & always very tasty. Every time I go I get the Chicken Chettinad (I ask them to make it spicy) & it's absolutely delicious. There are plenty of vegetarian options including a really good paneer mahkani. Its a little pricier but the food & portions are of good value.
The waitstaff is always very friendy & attentive. I've never had to wait long for anything.
Also the restaurant itself has a warm ambience & is very intimate. The lanterns are beautiful & add a great touch to the atmosphere.
Overall, Devi is an amazing restaurant, from the food to the servers, & is most likely my favorite restaurant in Montreal.
Devi's is a good upscale Indian restaurant. However, upscale comes at a price.
I find that they 'white' up their spicing - in other words, while the food is quite flavorful (the naan is especially wonderful) it lacks the kick that I really want in Indian food. Even the jalfrazi barely sizzles. Of course, I like spice. I am happy eating foods that make my nose run & eyes tear. I actually have a hot sauce collection . . . so take my criticism as you will.
That being said, the service is always good & they have a well priced lunch special (by downtown standards, not by hole-in-the-wall Indian food standards). They also have a tendency to throw in extra stuff with your lunch, like chicken pakoras . . . unfortunately, I'm a vegetarian so I don't particularly like the additional chicken on my plate, but I do appreciate the sentiment & the focus on customer service.
In my opinion, Devi is a great place to go if you want Indian food without the burn or if someone you know is looking for that. It's good & I am happy to go with coworkers for lunch, but I wouldn't go to get my spicy Indian fix.
Having lived in India for 4 years, I'm always iffy about eating Indian in Montreal. Devi was recommended by a friend, & the food was excellent. We shared the Manchurian Cauliflower as an appetizer, which was DELICIOUS (I will eat that again & again) & I had the Paneer Bhurji (excellent, though I asked for it spicy & they put so much chilli that it overwhelmed the rest of the taste), & for dessert we shared the Pistachio Cheesecake. Good, but a little too thick for my taste.
My overall bill (1/2 appetizer, main meal, 2 servings of naan, dessert) came to $40 with a generous tip included (our waitress was wonderful, we were never without water). Also, I was so stuffed I took home 3/4 of my Paneer Bhurji (I had ordered the 2nd naan for that) & 3/4 of the cheesecake. Dinner for tonight!
Having arrived in Montreal a mere 3 weeks ago, my husband & I were in need of some spicy food. We looked online, found restomontreal (what a fabulous site for a newcomer!) & made our way to Devi's which is a hop, skip & jump away from our home.
I had a good feel about the restaurant from the moment I walked in, the deco, the beautiful lamps, the friendly wait staff & only hoped that the food would not disappoint. It did not!
Often, you find that spicy is a relative term depending on where you are geographically. We like our food HOT & specifically requested our food to be made even more spicy & the chef at Devi's complied. We had the Boti Kabab as a starter then moved on to the Kadai Chicken & Paneer Bhurjee. We had our mains with portions of saffron rice & plain naan & they went beautifully together.
The food was excellent. The lamb was tender & just the right side of spicy for us, the chicken & paneer were flavourful & all dishes were in generous portions. We compared Devi's to some of our favourite restaurants back home & it held its own.
We truly enjoyed our meal & would recommend it to anyone who'd like a taste of real North Indian food. With good food, friendly service & fair prices, Devi's is a winner on all count. We went back for seconds on my birthday - the very next day!
It has been a long time since I had some Indian food. I was not disappointed & enjoyed my outing. Food at Devi is great :) I loved my butter chicken with basmati rice & garlic naan bread; pakoras were delicious as well. To end my dinner, I took a pistachio cheesecake; heaven in my mouth. My waiter was great & always made sure I was ok. The restaurant is nicely decorated & you can hear some Hindu music.
If you are really hungry, make sure you order an appetizer because it takes quite a while to receive your main course.
