Chez Alexandre et fils offers a timeless French bistro feel with warm Parisian charm and an ambiance that many describe as elegant and inviting. The staff are consistently polished and professional, delivering attentive service that enhances the dining experience from start to finish. The menu showcases fresh, flavorful classics such as beef tartare, steak frites, cod croquettes, duck confit, and moules, with thoughtful specials and a carefully chosen wine list to complement each course. A refined upstairs cigar lounge and a cozy downstairs dining area add versatility, making it suitable for celebrations or relaxed meals. Guests note the confident cooking, generous flavor, and the sense of tradition that makes Chez Alexandre et fils a beloved Montreal staple, while occasional mentions of slower service or value concerns are outweighed by the overall warmth and high quality of the experience.
This restaurant was recommended to us by a staff member at the Residence Inn. We were pleased to be able to order from their 50th anniversary menu which was very reasonably priced. We had the steak Onglet & the beef bourguignon. My husband loved the beef bourgignon & my steak was perfectly cooked, served with frites. Complimentary cheese puffs & bread were brought to our table. Our server (Daniel) was very friendly. Raspberry sorbet completed the meal. We planned to dine here a 2nd time but didn't make it back during our short stay.
Amazing service, very friendly & professional staff, classy & elegant atmosphere. We visited on St. Paddy's Day & enjoyed an amazing Irish stew alongside others dishes. Everything was delicious!
My family had a great Saturday relaxing time Chez Alexandre. Loved the owner presence.
The ice cream profiteroles was amazing.
Only down point: No Kids menu.
A truly classy, well-established restaurant celebrating 50 years in business - & it shows.
The staff are polished, attentive, & genuinely professional, creating a warm & refined dining experience from start to finish. The food is incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, & full of flavor.
I especially appreciated the healthy, low-carb option - a delicious salmon & lentil special that felt both satisfying & thoughtfully crafted.
The cod croquettes were a fantastic way to start, & I finished with a refreshing mango sorbet served with a delicate sesame cookie & a perfectly made cappuccino.
An elegant, memorable meal all around.
