Reviews consistently describe Chez Alexandre et fils as a Montreal institution with a warm, classic French bistro vibe, where the food is reliably delicious from beef bourguignon and steak frites to seafood and comforting favourites. The service is attentive and professional, and the atmosphere feels both refined and welcoming, with a notable upstairs cigar lounge and a strong wine list that guests frequently enjoy. The spot is praised for charm, consistency, and great experiences for celebrations as well as casual dinners, though a few notes about pacing or value appear from time to time. Overall it comes across as a beloved and dependable destination worth returning to.
This restaurant is awesome, at the time we went(4 to 6 pm) is quiet & great to talk to the people you're with, the whole place has old school vibes which I love.
Staff is friendly, & the food ee tried was delicious, specially the onion soup.
Great atmosphere & food. I took a star off for service because the waitress insisted on using English even though I speak French. I find this annoying as an American whose French is very good. My only other complaint is that the English Pub does not have any English beers that I could see. Irish stouts & red ale are good but not English. There must be some bottled English ales that are available in Quebec even if there isn't any English ale in kegs. If not, they could stock an English style ale brewed in Quebec, I think there is an ESB brewed in Quebec.

Had a wonderful dining experience… felt like being in Paris.
Food was amazing, Alain was warm & welcoming, Cali was attentive, warm & sparkled! We'll definitely be back!

This restaurant was recommended to us by a staff member at the Residence Inn. We were pleased to be able to order from their 50th anniversary menu which was very reasonably priced. We had the steak Onglet & the beef bourguignon. My husband loved the beef bourgignon & my steak was perfectly cooked, served with frites. Complimentary cheese puffs & bread were brought to our table. Our server (Daniel) was very friendly. Raspberry sorbet completed the meal. We planned to dine here a 2nd time but didn't make it back during our short stay.
Amazing service, very friendly & professional staff, classy & elegant atmosphere. We visited on St. Paddy's Day & enjoyed an amazing Irish stew alongside others dishes. Everything was delicious!
My family had a great Saturday relaxing time Chez Alexandre. Loved the owner presence.
The ice cream profiteroles was amazing.
Only down point: No Kids menu.
