After clubbing, it was the place to go & grab a bite before heading home. That was some time ago, & it hasn't changed. The old-fashioned smoke meat is exactly the same. Served warm on rye bread with yellow mustard. I ordered the combo, so the sandwich plate had fries, coleslaw, & a crunchy pickle. To be honest, the meal was very good except for the fries. They weren't quite cooked enough. The inside & outside were cold & limp. Not the best. We did enjoy our lunch. Service was quick, so it's the perfect place to go for a business/work lunch hour.View more
This place hasn't changed in 25 years. Biggest Matzoh ball I've ever seen. Old fashioned smoked meat is on point. Has a very cool old-timer feel.View more
We hadn’t been to Chenoy’s in a couple
of years. The food (especially the old fashioned smoked meat)was as good as ever. The service was exceptional. Our server,Lavera did everything but cartwheels to make sure we had a good dining experience.
We would return for the food,of course but being served by Lavera again would be the cherry on Chenoy’s amazing cheesecake.View more
First let me start off with : I know now why all Chenoy's have slowly closed everywhere.Walked in on a Friday late afternoon into a morgue. Was seating & preceded to order a "Jumbo" old fashioned smoked meat plate at $19.99.The drinks & fries came first then the punchline of a joke came. The sandwich i got didn't even resemble a regular size , i took a pic. When i put the rye bread on the meat & held it , it had about 1 inch of meat.I've never complained about food in my life but this was just straight mocking the customer to my face.I called over the waitress & asked: "Does this look like a "Jumbo" sandwich ?" I said "What does the regular sandwich look like?"She has the audacity to say "Smaller than that".I took the picture & got up & walked out of that miserable place.Mocking your customers will only close the place down faster , which i hope it does & therefore put it out of its misery.Went to La Belle Province & had 2 bigger sandwiches for $3.00 more ($23)Mark my words this place will follow in the footsteps of the other Chenoy's .....Don't waste your time or money.
We just ate at Chenoys on St. Jean in the west island. We wanted a good smoked meat sandwich sorely disappointed.
First, there was none of the dry old fashioned smoked meat again, so we ordered the regular spicy one. Unfortunately the meat was cut too thick, but the real disappointment was that they changed the bread they used to use & replaced the rye with a new flimsy toast style bread. It just turned to mush on the sandwich, had a different flavour that didn't fit with the sandwich, & the whole flavor was off. Service was fine though & that was the only good thing.
The smoked meat sandwich was a real disappointment after being so much better for 30 years.
If this is what they will continue do in the future, we'll go elsewhere like Moe's, Smoked Meat Pete's, & Abys which all have better smoked meat sandwiches than Chenoy's now.
