Review Summary

Overall, Champs Bar is described as a lively, welcoming spot with an incredible bar atmosphere and a strong queer-friendly vibe that shines on game nights and during special events. Reviewers praise the bilingual friendliness, attentive service on many shifts, comfortable seating, pool tables, and affordable prices, making it easy to mingle and meet new people. The crowd is laid-back and inclusive, and the venue is often said to provide a great space to watch Canadiens games and enjoy the ambiance. However, there are caveats: inconsistency among bartenders, including instances of intoxication or poor attitudes that affected orders and mood, and reports of homophobia or rudeness on some evenings. Accessibility challenges are noted, with guests needing assistance to enter or navigate, and some safety concerns with heavy bathroom doors and crowded spaces. Overall, Champs Bar remains a great option for queer-friendly nightlife and sports viewing, with room for improvement in staff consistency, inclusivity on all nights, and accessibility.

I was there yesterday with some friends. The bartender was causing a commotion with some customers, accusing them of being aggressive & threatening others when they were simply sitting at a table having drinks. They then proceeded to kick them out, saying they'weren't part of the community.'

Honestly, I've been there multiple times, & there always seems to be an issue with the bartenders being discriminatory toward customers. This was one time too many. Isn't it supposed to be about accepting everyone?

Yesterday, March 24, I went to Champs bar with my friend & they kicked us out for the reason that we're not lesbians. The bartender, a'femboy,' was rude & started pushing me. It's funny because lesbians often say they accept everyone, but that's not the case. My advice is to stay away from that shitty bar.

Atmosphere of the bar is always fantastic HOWEVER they clearly have a serious bartender problem. The female bartender was so unbelievably intoxicated last night that I was genuinely concerned for her wellbeing. Literally stumbling & slurring her words, the type of behaviour that would get anyone kicked out of a bar. She was nice the entire time but every time I ordered from her she would give me the wrong thing but because I knew she was so intoxicated I didn't even bother to correct her.

The male bartender seemed to be in a horrible mood & was giving me & my friends attitude the entire night even when we were trying to smile & joke with him to lighten the mood which sucked. It's a shame because besides them the bar is fantastic. Hopefully someone can tell them to get it together.

I went tonight to meet my partner at champs. When I arrived she had gotten too drunk; which is the responsibility of the bartender that served her too many. All I asked for was a glass of water & was told to go get it myself even though I was keeping my partner from falling out of her chair. When I told the bartender that if they could serve her alcohol they can serve her water my beer was pored in the sink & I was kicked out of the bar along with my partner. Champs is not a safe place where you can expect the basic care you receive at any other bar.

Very inaccessible

I've seen several disabled people have to get piggy back rides just so they can enter & exit the venue. Disabled people deserve to go out & have fun & dance like anybody else.
Accessibility shouldn't be an afterthought, especially in a place that peddles itself as welcoming to everyone

The venue itself is alright (though leans very very white) & I quite like several bartenders. But I can't stop thinking about how those patrons must feel

The bartender was almost as pretty as her cocktail creations. Really busy bar with attentive service. Think her name was em or something. Lgtv friendly. Can't wait to come back ;)

My friends & I went here after Osheaga on a Saturday. The bartenders were super friendly & the DJ played some killer 90s/early 2000s throwbacks. I felt very comfortable as a queer person. It's a sports bar but certainly doesn't feel like the typical boring subdued bar.
