Amazing atmosphere, the restaurant itself has a very warm, old-school feel to it. The staff are very kind & helpful. The food, is just wow, & so authentic 👌
Our experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
We ordered a single round of drinks, & after they were delivered, our server never returned to check on our table. Had someone come back, we would have gladly ordered additional drinks, meaning the restaurant lost additional business simply because no service was provided after the initial order.
Tried getting another members attention, with constant ignoring.
When we were ready to leave, we waited approximately 30 minutes just to receive our bill. We requested four separate bills, but the server returned with one combined bill instead. Rather than waiting another extended period for the mistake to be corrected, we decided to pay the single bill ourselves.
After we tapped to pay, the server immediately confronted us because a gratuity had not been left. Instead of thanking us for our business or professionally handling the situation, he became visibly upset & insisted that gratuity had not been included. The interaction was uncomfortable enough that one member of our group felt pressured into giving him an additional $5 simply to end the conversation. The receipts are attached.
Tipping is a way to recognize good service-it is not something customers should feel pressured or embarrassed into providing. Unfortunately, the service throughout our visit did not meet even basic expectations. We received one round of drinks, no follow-up service, an excessive wait for the bill, an incorrect bill after requesting separate checks, & then an uncomfortable confrontation over a tip.
The most disappointing part of the evening wasn't the slow service-it was being made to feel guilty for not rewarding poor service. Hospitality should leave guests wanting to return. This experience had the opposite effect.
The man next to us was also ignored & treated poorly.
On a commandé 2 plats. L'assiette au porc c'était bon avec bc de sauce & legumes. Le fetuccini à l'Alfredo au fruit de mer était entre pas bon & moyen, il n'y avait presque pas de sauce & le peu de sauce qu'il y avait c'était pas crémeux, il y avait 4 moules, 2 palourdes & des crevettes matane(des minis crevettes)
Le service par le serveur était « correct » rien d'extra mais 0 attentionné, pas une seule fois il est venu nous demandé si tout était ok, comme la plupart des restaurants le fond, & non, la terrasse était à moitié plein, alors c'est pas par manque de temp.
Il n'as pas apporté le pain, alors que d'autres tables, oui. A la fin, on a demandé s'il faut payer pour le pain & la réponse a était : « non mais on devrait » ??!?! j'ai demandé pq o nous a pas apportez le pain elle a dit: il fallait le demander. Je pense que c'est faux, il y avait des tables où le pain n'avait pas était touché par le clients alors je pense pas qu'ils l'ont demandé. Un autre petit détail, à date de l'été 2026, ce resto vend l'eau en bouteille à 5$, alors que le resto en face on voyait le serveur remplir les verres d'eau à chaque fois (eau de la ville)
Au prix que les resto au vieux Montréal vendent leurs assiettes, on a été déçu de notre expérience au Solmar.
Je ne retourne pas c'est sur.

Unfortunately my & family had a bad experience.
We ordered 4 plates & 1 was good.
Other 3 were steaks & very very hard & dry when we ordered medium rare.
Also we wanted to explore new food & we asked questions like'how is this cooked, what are the sides' & we got rude answers like' don't you know what X plate is?, don't order if you don't know'
Will not come back.
First time back since 2010 & the food was just as amazing as I remembered! Scallops & chorizo, filet mignon, & the very best pastel de nata! We indulged & splurged & enjoyed every bite! Thank you for the wonderful service!
I had a reservation tonight with my husband & tonight went in a way we did not expect. I do not typically leave bad reviews & we did enjoy everything else but unfortunately this experience could have become very dangerous. My husband has a severe dairy allergy, we had several servers come to the table & we informed them each time of the severe allergy & enquired to make sure nothing had dairy, both tapas & both main meals we had. I know we were speaking english & perhaps that led to the misunderstanding although all servers spoke good english, but it was imperative that nothing included dairy or any form, butter, skimmed milk, milk powder etc & we were assured nothing did. therefore I felt at ease to share a bit of my meal with my partner when he noticed a change in his throat & we knew something was wrong. going from happiness & enjoyment of the space & meal to complete fear for my partner given we had not prepared for an allergic reaction this day specifically. The manager or owner, i'm guessing came to our table, comped our meal & comforted us as it progressed, told us where the nearest hospital, where ubers typically pick somebody up in the old port & for that i'm greatful but it took us a long time to find the uber as we were panicking for his safety & then to be attended at the hospital, thankfully we both got home safely tonight. please I urge your team to improve allergy training, to ensure each & every ingredient is reviewed. there's a big difference between a dairy intolerance & an allergy.
Wowww! What a dinner. I loved everything from the soup to the cod. The orange dessert was also magnificent. But the service was truly the best. Our waiter also spoke Portuguese, French & English. It was a very merry Christmas & I'm so glad we came here.
