About

Casa Solmar specializes in authentic Portuguese preparations characterized by flame-grilled seafood and an extensive selection of traditional tapas. Guests encounter a menu anchored by salt cod specialties, piri-piri seasoned proteins, and robust vegetable preparations meant for communal consumption. The culinary approach emphasizes simple, high-quality ingredients sourced to highlight the natural salinity of ocean-fresh catches. Plates arrive featuring charred textures and vibrant spice blends consistent with coastal Iberian traditions. The interior aesthetic reflects a functional maritime influence, creating a focused environment centered entirely on the distribution of shared platters. This establishment maintains a rigid commitment to regional cooking techniques, ensuring every order of calamari or grilled octopus adheres to recognized preparation standards. The configuration prioritizes efficiency, allowing diners to navigate a diverse array of small-format dishes without unnecessary elaboration or superfluous table service formalities.

Casa Solmar offers an authentic dining experience featuring fresh, well-presented dishes and a warm, traditional atmosphere that many visitors find inviting. While numerous patrons praise the delicious food, particularly the seafood, steaks, and desserts, experiences regarding the level of service remain inconsistent across visits. The restaurant is frequently recommended for its prime location and charming terrace, though some guests have noted concerns regarding value, specific service interactions, and pricing policies. Overall, it remains a popular destination for those seeking traditional flavors in a historic setting.

Before dinner we enjoyed fresh PEI oysters. Then prepared Caesar salad & beef tenderloin table side. Fabulous.

I had an incredible dining experience ! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm & inviting, with a perfect blend of cozy & chic. The staff were attentive & friendly, providing top-notch service throughout the meal. A special shout-out to our server, Jeremy, who did an amazing job even though it was his first day! He was professional, personable, & made sure our dining experience was flawless. The menu was diverse, offering a great selection of dishes, each one beautifully presented. I tried the Lamb Rack, & it was absolutely delicious-bursting with fresh flavours & cooked to perfection. The grilled octopus also stood out as a unique & flavourful option. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, ambiance, & exceptional service!"

We ordered the main meals only as we were starving, & it was pretty decent. We had the salmon & shrimp combo with a lemon infused rice & grilled vegetables & another had the seafood with rice. There was no seating for 4 outside, but their indoor dining room is very charming & cozy. They had one waiter serving the whole room, so it was a bit of a wait for these hungry customers but not overly long. We scoffed down the fresh bread, which would haveceven been better a little bit warm. Our food came fairly quick & the total bill wasn't too bad (we didn't order drinks or appetizers). We came here after the Aura show at Notre Dame Bascilica. Overall, a good restaurant.

Great Portugeuse/French restaurant in old Montreal. The food was delicious, I had a sur la mer style pasta & my wife had a beautifully cooked salmon & shrimp over rice. Plenty of fresh baked bread & several rounds of drinks. The service was equally good, an older gentleman got to know us a bit was a big hockey fan knowing players from our home town team from back in the 70's, lol. Stop here you won't regret it. Sadly the only photo I took was our view from the table.

We went for dinner with our friends & the food was absolutely delicious, the fish & seafood was so fresh, probably the best I've had in a long time. The live music was great as well. Overall an amazing experience at Solmar. I would definitely recommend.

Wonderful, wonderful experience. My husband & I visited there from Vermont last night & we had a truly great meal at Solmar. The staff was very nice, helpful, & friendly. The place was very nice, with white tablecloths & lovely blue & white peasant motif dishes. The live Portuguese music gave a good atmosphere, & the food was fresh & delicious. They started off by bringing us a basket of mixed very nice, very fresh breads, & a small bowl of really tasty olives. We ordered gazpacho to start us off. It was very nicely prepared & tasted as good as the best gazpacho I have ever eaten. I also had some oysters on the half shell, which were freshly shucked & very nice. For our main course, my husband ordered the shrimp in wine & cream sauce & I had the grilled squid. Both were beautifully prepared, nicely presented & very fresh & delicious. For dessert, my husband had a really fine tasting portuguese creme brulee & I ordered the Torta de Laranja, which is a very delicate cake, bathed in a to-die-for orange sauce. I must confess, it took all my self-control to keep from licking my plate... We don't care for alcohol, so we opted for a bottle of Portuguese mineral water called Pedra, which was very nice. All-in-all our meal came to C$ 105.00 plus tip. We consider it to be money well spent & plan to return again sometime soon. We recommend the Solmar very highly for its food, the excellent staff, the cleanliness & the great atmosphere. The service is a bit slow, but the leisure time spent waiting can be very pleasant if you are in good company.
