For regional cuisine at its best, come savor traditional Portuguese flavors at Casa Minhota! Our meals take on a festive look and the menu reflects old gourmet traditions. Our chef puts all of his creativity on the plate, lunch and supper, for our hungry customers. You can choose among a carefully selected wine list to complement your meal.
Casa Minhota draws overall praise for its warm, homey Portuguese comfort and authentic flavors, with guests noting generous portions, fresh seafood like octopus and cod, and a lively, welcoming atmosphere that evokes Portugal. The experience is described as more about soul and tradition than polish, with attentive service that is friendly without being intrusive, and a decor that makes visitors feel transported. While many visits are consistently good, a few reviews point to off nights where seasoning, timing, or preparation fell short and some dishes felt overcooked or parts of the menu did not meet expectations; however, the consensus remains that the restaurant offers genuine cuisine at good value and a memorable sense of place. Overall, Casa Minhota is seen as a Montreal staple for traditional Portuguese meals, a place to gather with family or friends and feel welcomed back to the homeland.
We visited this restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks ago & were genuinely blown away - the food was incredible, portions were generous, & we left feeling like we had eaten like royalty.
Unfortunately, our second visit told a different story. The flavours that impressed us the first time were noticeably missing. The dishes lacked seasoning, tasted bland, & several items were overcooked & dry. It felt like a completely different kitchen was at work.
We were hoping for a repeat of that first exceptional experience, but this time, the meal fell short. Hoping it was just an off night, because the potential is definitely there.

A wonderful & very authentic Portuguese restaurant! Great ambiance, food, & service! We each went with the table d'hôte menu; very reasonably priced. The food was excellent!
Domingo pela tarde. Tempo entre o prato de entrada e prato principal muitissimo demorado e no final a comida estava morna. Por favor troquem as facas sao um desastre
..realmente um mal dia.
First time dinning here i got the fillet miniong medium, it was 2 peices of Salisbury steak, over cooked. My partner got the fish & it was not fresh. Very disappointed.
The food was delicious & tasted just like Portugal. It was a nice high end restaurant & the service was friendly & as quick as possible. I found the pastel de nata a bit dry, but otherwise the food was great!
Party of six. I had the cod Minhota which was tough & so full of bones. Unappetizing as it wasn't filleted, the spine was covered in potatoes which made it difficult to eat. The seafood rice was way too fishy & the seafood was tough. Perhaps not fresh. The bread & wine was good. The appetizers…again fish was tough.

Im writting this in hopes someone from the restaurant reads it. It was my first time there I brought my boyfriend for his bday…food was great..we took fish & seafood mostly…. However a few hours later my boyfriend & I got severe food poisonning…. We have been sick for more than 24hrs… It kinda sucks because the food & service was great but clearly your fish & seafood had contaminants.
Best Portuguese food is known for its seafood, cured meats, & soups, & this place lived up all those expectations.
The service was excellent, & the staff was friendly & through with menu, great recommendations for dinner. They often check to ensure all is well.
If you are looking for a cosy - almost romantic like atmosphere, warm attentive service (when not overly busy), authentic Portuguese food - This is the right place.
I am going to make this really simple & to the point with regards to their food.
EVERY dish I have eaten over multiple visits has been most enjoyable. Seasoning, portions, texture, doneness - you name it. The only sad part of this place is when you are finished your meal - you actually kinda want to press a magic button to restart the experience & start to eat all over again.
& as with any good Portuguese restaurant, the classic dessert to eat is the Nata... it is simple, delicious & you can not stop at one.
Delicious food at moderate prices..you pay for good quality, but reasonably, Very nice european ambiance, friendly staff, they really make you feel at home. Definately will recommend this place to family & friends, will return for sure!
We had a wonderful dinner after a hockey game on Saturday in December - didn't book but they found us a table even if it was late. We enjoyed the delicious food & end of evening there. Everything that we ordered was succulent but spicy shrimps & steaks on the stone are spectacular ! Service was great, efficient, warm & contributed to this great & highly recommended experience! Love it!
An abundance of seafood is served here, whether it is in season or not. I asked our server where the lobster was from & he said Newfoundland. Lobster season in NL ends in July every year so either he wasn't telling the truth or the lobster wasn't very fresh. The sardines were good, a Portuguese specialty worth trying.
