Casa Minhota serves authentic Portuguese cuisine centered on fresh seafood and traditional tapas. Guests encounter a menu featuring salt cod prepared in multiple regional styles alongside grilled sardines and succulent octopus drizzled in high-quality olive oil. Small plates focus on bold flavors including spicy chorizo, garlic-heavy shrimp, and rich bean stews that characterize the culinary traditions of northern Portugal. The kitchen emphasizes ingredient integrity through direct heat cooking methods that honor coastal cooking techniques. Simple preparation allows the natural essence of shellfish and Atlantic fish to remain the primary focus of every dish. The environment prioritizes functional simplicity, ensuring that the focus remains entirely on the robust flavor profiles and authentic textures found in traditional Iberian fare.

Guests consistently praise the high quality and generous portions of traditional dishes such as grilled octopus, fresh sardines, cod, and filet mignon served on a hot stone. While the majority of reviews highlight the exceptionally friendly and attentive service provided by the dedicated staff, a few visitors have noted occasional inconsistencies in service speed or interaction. Despite varying opinions on the noise levels or specific lunch experiences, the consensus remains that this restaurant serves as a beloved neighborhood gem known for its homey feel, culinary consistency, and overall value, making it a highly recommended choice for those seeking a genuine and memorable dining experience.
Came here for lunch yesterday, the food was phenomenal!!!! Real authentic homemade Portuguese food. Fish was so fresh. Every bite was savory & delicious. Our waiter was very friendly too. Will definitely be coming back here.
My family & I have been going here for years. It's one of the gems of Montreal restaurants. The food is authentic, delicious, & proportionate to the cost. My favourite dishes are the grilled octopus & shrimp entrees, the sea food rice main dish, & the aroz doce (sweet rice) dessert. The service here is unlike others. From the moment you enter, to the second you leave, the waiters are always making sure you well taken care of. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm back in Portugal; with the beautiful decor & homey feel. All in all, this place is not only a must try, but also a tradition to eat here.

Authentic Portuguese meals from the Lisboa region. But they lack refinement & feel more like home made food. Maybe lunchtime menu is not as fancy as the evening offering but I only ate there at lunchtime. Lately, I had the pork stew (with potatoes & carrots); very greasy & ordinary. My friend had the grilled salmon with special chips like fried potatoes; it looked much better than my meal. I had lunch there another 2 times & it was quite ordinary both times. I do not plan retuning for lunch & maybe try the evening offering to make up my mind.
A wonderful & very authentic Portuguese restaurant! Great ambiance, food, & service! We each went with the table d'hôte menu; very reasonably priced. The food was excellent!
If you are looking for a cosy - almost romantic like atmosphere, warm attentive service (when not overly busy), authentic Portuguese food - This is the right place.
I am going to make this really simple & to the point with regards to their food.
EVERY dish I have eaten over multiple visits has been most enjoyable. Seasoning, portions, texture, doneness - you name it. The only sad part of this place is when you are finished your meal - you actually kinda want to press a magic button to restart the experience & start to eat all over again.
& as with any good Portuguese restaurant, the classic dessert to eat is the Nata... it is simple, delicious & you can not stop at one.
Casa Minhota is amazing! Everything from their delicious food, their authentic atmosphere, the staff is always very kind & accommodating, their prices are very good, their menu has lots of choice, their plating aesthetics is nice, just everything is 10/10. Darcy is fantastic! This is one of my favourite restaurants Favourite things: Bacalhau com Natas, Bacalhau a Bras, Bacalhau a Lagareiro, Sardinhas, Polvo, Bitoque & Porto Pears or Natas do Céu dessert
I recently dined at Casa Minhota & had an amazing experience. The place has a cozy, inviting atmosphere, & the staff were incredibly welcoming & attentive. As a Portuguese, I can confidently say the food was authentic & absolutely delicious, bringing me back to the flavors of home. From the perfectly grilled seafood to the rich, flavorful stews, everything was spot-on. If you're looking for a genuine taste of Portugal, I highly recommend Casa Minhota. I'll definitely be back!
