Love love the atmosphere. The cakes look delicious & the ube tiramisu was creative & delicious. The barista was courteous- but just by herself for a busy morning. So the food was not heated through, & the wait is long. The coffee was absolutely tasty though. The sesame latte was one of a kind & taste great too.
The atmosphere is cozy with French flair. The sun filtered through large windows & streamed onto the white bench. The Japanese music in the background created an eclectic feel. Overall, I like this place a lot. The name is actually chinese, Ri means the sun, & yue means the moon. Even the name is pretty.
Even in a rainstorm close to closing, the place was packed with a line inside. We didn't feel like waiting out in the rain, so we came back the next day right at opening.
They had about 9 signature drinks, & all of them looked familiar. Slight variations on the stuff I saw at trendy cafes in Seoul. For dessert there are'fat' macarons, cakes, & some savory focaccia options (only after 1:30p). We grabbed a couple of macarons along with a pineapple americano & a matcha lavender einspänner.
The drinks here were some of the best specialty drinks I've had in North America. I got especially hooked on the Americano à l'ananas. Fruit juice americanos have been one of my favorite trends this year, & this was on par with the best versions I've had in Seoul. High-quality pineapple juice, & the ratio hit that fine line between sweet & bitter.
The macarons were amazing too. Instead of the usual thin layer of ganache or fruit jam, they were packed with a thick slab of buttercream (the ??? style that blew up in Korea a few years back). Not the super sweet version either, just a subtle sweetness.
One of my favourite cafes in Montreal! My go to is the matcha strawberry cake & hojicha latte. Their macarons are super unique as well! It is sometimes quite hard to get a seat as this place is very popular.
The sesame chiffon cake was fantastic, & the food looked great overall.
The service, however, was a bit odd. I asked about the restroom when I arrived & was told I could get the key when placing my order. When I got in line & asked for the key so my pregnant wife could use the restroom, I was told the order had to be completed first. They eventually made an exception after I explained the urgency, which I appreciated, but the interaction felt unnecessary.
Great cake, but the restroom policy made the experience more awkward than it needed to be.
The owners are very picky about what they serve on their menu, which honestly makes everything on the menu the best of it's version. The macarons & cakes are baked fresh every single morning, everything is so cute & really good.
10/10, highly recommend if you looking for a cozy café with amazing pastries.
Always my favorite place to go to☺? super sweet & lovely staff, amazing quality of food & drinks. The prices are very reasonable considering all their cakes & macarons are made there, & not just bought & refrigerated. The coffee & matcha they use is also super good quality, never a disappointment. Not to mention, their menu is creative, & changes with the seasons. I love trying everything new they get in stock. It gets super busy which is understandable considering the good service they provide, but it can be difficult to find a table during peak hours. I'll always recommend this place!
☺?
I really liked their drinks & some pastries & cakes. They have big macarons! which are so cute… place is just a bit small & it gets crowded on busy days
It has become my daughter's favorite coffee shop. The cakes are a must-try-except the tiramisu 😅 maybe another time. It's a lovely place to meet a friend (not a group), as the space is small. During the summer, it's almost always full.
