The scones are an absolute must-try at this café, & the Sunday pancakes are the best I've had. The staff at Nocturne are kind & prone to laughter & quickly whip up your order. Best coffee in town.
Used to live a block away from Nocturne & this was my FAV! pastries were all baked fresh in house in the morning & were absolutely delicious! They often had cool rotating flavours for baked goods like maple bacon scones or orange cake! I love how flaky the chocolate croissants are! Their scones were also some of my favourites & often times they were MASSIVE! Their coffee roast is on the darker side but it is so so smooth & the baristas there know how to perfect every cup! They often had seasonal stops that were also homemade! Vibes inside are cozy & there are usually plenty of outlets & a good amount of large tables to work at. One thing to note, is that the wifi sometimes bugs out!
Absolutely love this coffee shop! The barista is always on point & the decor is so nice & cozy. They reserve a "no laptops" table on weekends to encourage reading, chatting, etc!!
The atmosphere is inviting & cozy, the cafe vibes are strong. The incandescent lights, rustic furniture & decor, & colours are very pleasing. Their scones & coffee are also legitimate.. the scone had that authentic buttermilk taste & was of a perfect texture. Sadly our experience lacked in warm service as the barista had an unhelpful & unconcerned attitude & expression. Additionally, their wifi didn't work, & the tea is mediocre (not strong nor fragrant). Final thoughts: may or may not come back. A shame cause I liked the cafe itself, just not the service & lack of functioning internet.
While the coffee is decent & the service friendly, most people don't go to a cafe strictly for the coffee. This is where I think this cafe lacks greatly; the atmosphere is small & unwelcoming. There's enough cafes in Montreal that have both that it's hard to see myself visiting again. Even in the short time I was there, I saw 3 groups of people walk in & walk out, likely sensing the same ambiance I sensed.
Amazing coffee, coffee flavour was amazingly balanced with milk. Foam was Smooth & milk was perfect temperature.
The iced chai latte was disappointing - it barely had any chai flavor & tasted mostly like milk. However, the iced coffee was excellent, rich, & flavorful. There's definitely room for improvement on the food & pastry side
They stopped selling the coffee bag I've been buying for the last 3 years. Cafe Nocturne, I'm sad to say that you lost a loyal regular client.
Literally changed my whole relationship to coffee. This place is the best! Cute space, great staff, awesome coffee! You can collect stamps & get free coffees if you're a repeat customer. They also sell coffee beans & various coffee gear. I wish they sold t shirts because I would buy one! I've tried their iced tea, their lattes & their matcha - all great!
Didn't get to try the coffee here because it was packed. But it is a nice coffee shop, great for working. Just limited seating & small so fills up fast.
Loved this place! They had an iced coffee slush that was startlingly good. We had to go out of our way to come back the next day for another round.
Excellent iced latte & coffee slush. Cinnamon croissant was heavenly!
I tried a new coffee place every day while I was visiting Montreal. I had an Americano at Nocturne, & it was the best coffee I had during my stay (all of the others were good, but this was the best).
Not sure of her name but the girl with the glasses & curly longer hair is always unnecessarily rude (not to be confused with a quieter girl without glass & curly hair, she's very sweet this review is nothing against her). I live nearby so I come in often & did like it a lot (the other baristas are all friendly & the coffee is good) but my interactions with said barista are always unpleasant & awkward to a point where I think management should be aware. I have even come in with friends & they brought up the same issue. For clarity on the exact issue, she is never smiling or welcoming, she is cold & aloof - usually barely even greets you. She has an attitude & even talks back when you ask a question. I have been a barista myself & am understanding, sometimes you are having a bad day or you are drained BUT this has been MANY times now, in fact everytime she is working this occurs. Now I honestly don't go in if I see she's working unless I want to just quickly grad something & have the energy to just ignore her demeanor.
Back in Montreal & this place is still an absolute gem. It's small & crowded but still very friendly. As of now (July 2024) they're sourcing coffee from Balance Torréfacteur, which I've discovered is a superb roaster & it's local (to Montreal). I got a cortado, & it was perfection. Taste, body, temperature, proper volume too. It doesn't get better.
i absolutely adore this cafe. so cute, good coffee & amazing croissants. i think it was the largest croissant I've eaten that was actually good. it's in the perfect area close to campus & entering on the plateau. come here for your morning pastry & coffee before walking around the plateau or to mount royal on the weekends. can also work from here on week days being that it's close to campus.
