Review Summary

Cabaret l'Enfer offers a unique and intimate fine dining experience in Montreal, characterized by an energetic atmosphere, punk rock aesthetic, and an open kitchen where guests at the chef counter can watch the team at work. While many patrons praise the creative, flavorful, and high-quality tasting menu, responses regarding the value and portion sizes are polarized, with some diners finding them perfectly balanced and others feeling unsatisfied. The service style is frequently described as warm, engaging, and personal, though occasional reports of slow pacing, staff training inconsistencies, or a lack of attention to detail suggest an experience that can vary from night to night. Ultimately, the restaurant is often celebrated as a fun, memorable, and adventurous destination for those seeking an unconventional and interactive culinary journey.

I was awfully deceived by the service at this place. As much as the food was superb, i feel like the service & the portion don't own up to the price you pay per person.
Paying for a meal-wine experience that equals to 220$ per person, but you have no wine explanation whatsoever, the food portions are ridiculously small, i feel a bit robbed. The wine also felt a bit cheap considering the price. Maybe that's why they don't explain the wines?
I understand the whole concept & I feel like it could be a win. But they're missing the staff, the portion & the whole experience.

This is it, by far the worst food experience I have ever had. Period. Was a big fan of Massimo on the show so we were excited to go when we visited. Let me break it down:
-
Food: It's like someone leans how to make food look fancy without actually making it taste good. The vegetarian course were just them replacing whatever meat with a mushroom lol

Drink: By far the worst. I got the wine pairing, & by the second serve the sommelier comes by when I'm half way through eating it, mind you there was a wait between. By the third course she came by when I was having my last bite so I just said cancel the rest of the pairing & ordered a cocktail instead. Big mistake, it tasted terrible.

Service: Over three hours & we wanted to leave, with the time in between courses. At one point they brought our course to the table next to us, did the whole presentation & then as the people were about to eat took it a way & brought it to our table - AFTER OTHER PEOPLE WERE HOVERING OVER THE PLATES!

Chef: Massimo is a bit popular from being on top chef & doing well & other reviews mentioned that the chef comes out & chats with the tables but I noticed that he only stopped by tables filled with women which was quite funny.

Also the music is too loud to hear the person across from you & the theme is straight bs. As I write this, it just makes me upset, I hate that place. I know the name translates to'Hell's Cabaret' but you didn't have to punish us like that.

A friend brought me here after she had recently discovered & had loved it.

We went for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Arrived at 6:30 & left sometime after 8:30 as we took our time to finish our drinks.

The food was both beautiful & delicious. Each course was exciting & unique from the last that had come out, with such a diversity of textures, flavors & presentations. We had sat at the bar so we got to see them as they work on each dish & the energy behind the bar felt very upbeat. When the chef would present the food to us you could feel the passion he has for his work. Even the cocktails had really unique twists that I really appreciated over how they may be more typically served.

I would absolutely come back & bring some more friends to try this place

This was easily one of the best fine dining experiances I've ever had. We let them know in advance of Ciliac needs & they were beyond accomadating. The chefs were incredible & amazing to chat with about the dishes. The food was creative & stunning. This felt like a world class experiance.

I had one of the most memorable dinners I've had in years here. The food was excellent, but what sets this place apart is the experience. The chef works directly with the guests, explains the dishes & wines, & adapts the evening naturally rather than following a script. Every course felt thoughtful without being overcomplicated. The wine pairing introduced me to producers I had never tried, including an outstanding Austrian rosé with the tuna. If you're looking for a large, bustling dining room, this isn't it. If you enjoy sitting close to the kitchen & experiencing a chef who is deeply invested in every guest, I can't recommend Cabaret l'Enfer enough. I'll make a point of returning the next time I'm in Montréal.

As fans of Top Chef, my husband & I have wanted to try Cabaret L'Enfer for a while now, & it honestly lived up to the hype. The seven-course menu is perfectly put together, blending seasonal ingredients with bold Latin American flavors. As someone with a major sweet tooth, I was very thrilled that they include two desserts!

Everything was delicious, but the scallop crudo, the asparagus with caviar, the bluefin tuna, & the corn-based dessert were real highlights.

The service was fantastic, & the staff were so friendly too. We sat at the chef's table, which was such a cool way to see the kitchen in action. It was also a nice touch that Chef Massimo made a point to chat with every single table at least once. We'll definitely be back!

What are these low reviews??? I can't wait to go back. Food? excellent. Wine? Amazing. Service? Fantastic. Playlist? On point!

At the end of the night the chefs provided my husband & I w/ a list of other spots we should check out while in MTL.

Can't wait for my next trip to the city to dine here again.

waste of money & an evening. Reservation at 6:45, the last course was finally served after 10pm. The whole restaurant was waiting for their orders, everyone staring at the kitchen. It took more than 30mins between each service, we were so hungry & no way of knowing it would take 3.5h to eat on a Thursday. Portions were tiny. even the sliced tomahawk was only 2 dollar coin sized 5mm thick pieces of meat. At the start I alerted I could eat scallops (they don't say what the tasting menu is), everyone got ravioli stuffed with lobster scallop & shrimp, & they made me an oversalted straight tomato sauce on a couple fettuccine pasta noodles. Sorry but at 30$ an average cost per tasting plate why is micheline restaurant only able to come up with 1$ of noodles & a 2$ spoonful of tomatoes, basil & salt. The only good thing I can say is the waitress was smiling the whole time & the desserts were good, but honestly the value wasn't there, the experience was meh, & the serving time was absurd for a place that only does a tasting menu.
