About

Bombay Mahal specializes in authentic Northern Indian culinary traditions through an extensive menu of tandoori specialties and rich curries. Diners encounter a selection of clay oven roasted meats marinated in traditional yogurt and robust spice blends. The kitchen prioritizes classic techniques to prepare staples like creamy butter chicken alongside a variety of fragrant basmati rice preparations. Freshly baked naan serves as an essential component of the table, perfectly suited for scooping up intricate masalas and lentil dals. The interior features a straightforward aesthetic that focuses on the intensity of the kitchen output rather than ornamental flair. This establishment offers a direct exploration of vibrant regional flavors characterized by the measured use of ginger, garlic, and freshly toasted aromatic spices in every signature dish.

Review Summary

Bombay Mahal receives a wide variety of feedback, with many patrons praising the authentic flavors of staples like butter chicken, lamb korma, and vegetarian thali options. While numerous customers highlight the excellent service and fresh, hot delivery, others note inconsistencies regarding pricing transparency and dish quality. Opinions on the atmosphere are divided, as some diners appreciate the welcoming and homely environment, while others describe the space as being in need of maintenance and cleanliness improvements. Despite mixed reports concerning delivery wait times and fluctuating consistency, many loyal guests consider it a reliable go-to spot for affordable and delicious Indian cuisine in Montreal.

I have been regular customer of them since the new owner take over the restaurant. Recently she went on maternity & yesterday I was so surprised to see her back & how courageously she was handling the orders & how politely she treated to me both in french & english. After almost 7-8 months I had good experience for takeout just cause of her because the food which chef made specifically chilly paneer was so saucy & didn't taste better in compared to past days when the owner husband used to make it was the super tasty my go to dish. The delivery of food from the kitchen in last 7-8 months have been so slowed down that at-least you have to wait 20-25 min but yesterday kushi delivered my food within 10 min & was happy with her service but the food disappointed me & wasn't happy at all.
I am writing this review after thrice experiencing as the staff who were working didn't know english neither french & there is a old lady who doesn't know english & always stares ridiculously & calls kitchen staff & to add more she also stares the person who takes order as if they aren't trained & she behaves like she the boss & as a customer we have to wait to give order & then another 25 min till our order gets prepared. The delivery time has been the worst since the owner went on her maternity but was super glad to see her back yesterday.
I would strongly recommend the owner to speed up the orders so that food gets delivered on time & the food quality needs to be improved as the chilly paneer was the most famous but now the taste hasn't been the same. But now as the owner is back on work so I would definitely visit more often cause of her & I hope this review will improve the delivery time & quality as well. Only visiting the store cause of kushi otherwise past 7-8 months no food quality & no good staff. I hope she continues to work to get back lost-customers.

After having eaten at (& been very impressed by) the Bombay Mahal Parc-Ex location earlier this weekend, I thought I'd give the NDG location a try as I live in the neighbourhood & would love to find a local Indian restaurant of similar quality.

I ordered the chicken vindaloo along with steamed rice, naan, & an appetizer of lentil dhal. The first thing I noticed was the prices punched in by the staff member were much higher than what was advertised on their website. When I mentioned this he altered the price, though the total was still more than if I had simply ordered on Uber Eats for pick-up. I am not sure if this was an honest mistake, or a blatant attempt at an upcharge, but it certainly wasn't the best way to start my dining experience. If the chicken vindaloo is indeed $16, the $12 listing on the website should be updated.

The food arrived quickly & the table service was fine. The inclusion of a free bottle of water & disappointingly bland vindaloo cannot help but lead me to suspect that I might have received the'Gora version' of the dish. I include this in my review in case anyone else with a light complexion likes their vindaloo spicy & visits this restaurant... just be sure to ask for the full spice when ordering.

I'm not normally one to fuss about atmosphere, but in comparison to the Parc-Ex location I feel compelled to mention it. While that spot is bright, bustling, & clean. This location had uncleared tables, somewhat dour staff, & a generally uncaring vibe.

With several other Indian restaurants within walking distance on Sherbrooke, unfortunately my search for one to visit consistently as a local will have to continue.

Their service is quite poor, & it took a long time for the food to be prepared. Compared to the Indian restaurants nearby, their overall quality is noticeably lower. This is, of course, my personal opinion based on my own experience.

The Lamb Vindaloo here is amazing. Very spicy, savoury, & delicious. I originally found this place on delivery apps, but I've since dined in a couple of times over the past 2 years, & the table service has improved immensely since the first time I came. I've tried several other Indian restaurants, & Bombay Mahal might not have the flashiest decor or the largest interior, but the food quality is unparalleled, & so consistent. This is my favourite local restaurant, & I'll be coming back often.
