About

Bistro Sofia centers its culinary identity on the preparation of grilled meats and fresh vegetable compositions. The menu prioritizes direct cooking methods that highlight the inherent quality of raw proteins alongside crisp, seasonal greens. Patrons find an environment defined by the functional execution of bistro staples rather than elaborate presentation or complex flavor layers. High heat serves as the primary tool for developing texture, while various vinaigrettes provide the necessary acidity to balance rich, charred components. Each dish adheres to straightforward preparation techniques, ensuring consistent output across the diverse array of salads and grilled selections. The establishment maintains a sharp focus on the interplay between protein and produce, stripping away culinary pretense to favor technical efficiency and clear, bold ingredients in every served plate.

Review Summary

Bistro Sofia is widely celebrated for its authentic, high-quality Bulgarian cuisine, featuring flavorful dishes like banitsa and generous meat platters in an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Many guests praise the welcoming service and the owner's passion, noting that the restaurant is an excellent choice for a leisurely, social dining experience with unique wine and rakia selections. While most patrons have wonderful experiences, some reviews highlight concerns regarding slow service speed and occasional inconsistency in staff professionalism. Given the small size of the bistro, reservations are strongly recommended, and visitors should plan for a relaxed pace, as the environment is better suited for slow dining rather than quick meals.

We had been welcomed by wonderful waitress, Sonia. She explains us well the cuisine & the dishes. We enjoyed the cold yougurt soup + cucumber. It was refreshing for a summer like this one . However the chicken & the saucisse were overcooked, it got too dried. As you can see on the picture, it got quite burned. The figure desserts were too sweet for our tastebuds. Overall it was good try for Bulgarian cuisine.

We had a lovely brunch here over the weekend with our family! The owner was very kind & genuine. He clearly enjoyed sharing Bulgarian culture with us, & we very much enjoyed experiencing it! Highly recommend trying the Banitza (phyllo pastry). Most dishes come with fruit & yoghurt as well. Highly recommend!

Ordered takeout. The moisture in the sausage has been lost & it has become salty. The same goes for chicken leg. Not too much parts of this leg can be eated .
First of all, I really like this restaurant. At least most of the time, the dishes remained tender & juicy, a far cry from today's mediocre experience.

This is an amazing restaurant. We have been there several different times.
Tikvichki (fried zuchinis), kashkaval pane (fried cheese) & Imam Bayildi (Roasted Eggplant) are our favorite dishes there! Everything is fresh & tasty!
This is a perfect place to discover more about the Bulgarian & the Balkans’ cuisine. The menu is varied, they have a very good selection of beverages & vegetarian options as well!
Despite our ocasional visits, we have decided to have our civil wedding lunch at Bistro Sofia, during summer! To enjoy their beautiful terrace & amazing food! We are extremely happy that we could count on the owners Peter & Anna, who made it possible for us celebrate our special day. The service was impeccable, as well as the ambiance. We definitely recommend this place for any future events or simply to enjoy a delicious meal in Montreal!
