Bistro Amerigo is described across reviews as a beloved neighborhood Italian bistro with a warm, homey atmosphere and plenty of charm. Food is consistently praised for being fresh, flavorful, and comforting, with standout dishes including gnocchi, meatballs, calamari, vongole, octopus salad, and a range of pastas. Portions are generous and the menu offers simple, authentic Italian fare with a well regarded wine list and accessible prices for the neighborhood. Many reviewers note that reservations are not taken, which can lead to waiting times that vary with demand and, at peak periods, crowds and a bustling vibe. Service is described as friendly and attentive by many, though a few encounters are reported as uneven or less attentive during busy times. The vibe is cozy and intimate, sometimes lively, with some reviewers comparing it to a New York style casual dining scene and others noting the close tables and ambient noise. Overall, Bistro Amerigo is seen as a gem in the NDG area, a reliable place for affordable Italian food, generous portions, and welcoming staff, with broad appeal for lunch or dinner and a willingness to return for tried and true favorites and new discoveries, while some diners advise managing expectations about seating comfort and price.
Salad - 10
Spinach arancini - 7
Beef arancini - 7
Sauce average.
Gnocchi - 10. Perfection. We waited almost an hour, but this made it worth it. The sauce was perfect, & the gnocchi was so good - I really felt it was homemade. It was soft & delicious. Only place I like gnocchi. The mushrooms were yummy as well, & I liked the different shapes of mushrooms.
Paper dell - 7 lacks a little salt, I found. Felt like more meat than pasta, not really any sauce. The meat felt a little dry. The pasta shape was so great & felt very fresh.
All in all, cute place - I'll always be a fan. Good ambiance, service is good. Cute dim lighting, perfect for a dinner date with your boo or with your girls. I even waited around 40 minutes in the cold, but it was worth it for the gnocchi mushroom pasta.

Italian'garde manger' is their bi line, & it fits well. Simple to the point Italian food & drink offerings done right. Relaxed, friendly & unpretentious. A definite keeper for me. Great place for lunch or dinner.
From the first course onward, the meal showed a clear sense of intention, favoring careful execution over unnecessary flair.
We started generously-both a salad & the soup of the day, a comforting minestrone that tasted like my Nonna had made it. That was followed by the two arancini on offer, each distinct & delicious.
For mains, restraint was not part of the plan. We were excited to hear about the off-menu item: crab-stuffed ravioli in a bisque-style sauce. It was rich without being overwhelming. The gorgonzola ravioli delivered a bold, deeply satisfying contrast. Both dishes wowed us thoroughly. Unapologetically indulgent.
A crisp white wine tied everything together beautifully-though sharing the entire bottle between two people turned out to be more of a commitment than expected 😅🍷
Dessert was non-negotiable: tiramisu & cannolo, both because you can't leave without trying them 🤷?♂?
The ambiance is inviting, the menu thoughtfully curated, & the service genuinely attentive. If it's been on your list, consider this a gentle nudge to finally make the visit. But, bring your appetite because you will be seriously full after this 😜

Nourriture savoureuse, service impeccable.
The place gives a nice Italian buzz...
But then comes a very mediocre service. & when you eventually disturb them for it after 40 minutes waiting for food, manager will come out ant tell you it's all your fault because of they didn't read through your body language that you needed food.
Then he'llake a few quite inappropriate comments boarding familiarity & food will come - dry, because it was waiting for service way too long.
Then you'll leave it on the plate telling it's not really nice, they'll just take it away & bring you a bill...
Of course, not everyone's experience is the same but this was ours. Very disappointing.
So grateful to be living in a neighbourhood with the best Italian restaurant in the city. I go there once (sometimes twice) per week & each time I am shocked at how spectacular the food is. Such an amazing ambience & the owners/staff are wonderful people. Everything is always on point & hits the spot.
Authentic Italian, wines that are not found anywhere in the city. A truly Italian experience in Montreal with a very humble home feeling. Recommended 100% 5 stats +++
« If you were my child, I would drag you into my basement. »
Cozy, home-cooked vibe. Food is good & comforting, & the menu feels simple & straightforward. Service was just ok, nothing special. Overall, fair for the price & a solid neighborhood option, even if it's not particularly memorable or spectacular.
