If you're looking for a transportive culinary experience in Montreal, look no further than Barranco. I recently lunched here with a friend, & from start to finish, it was nothing short of exceptional.
Let's start with the service: it was impeccable. Our server was warmly polite, knowledgeable about the menu, & efficiently attentive without ever being intrusive. It set the perfect tone for a relaxed yet refined meal.
Now, the food-where Barranco truly shines. We began with the Ceviche Clásico. This is not merely a dish; it's a vibrant event on a plate. The description from the menu is spot-on: it's a declaration. The mahi-mahi was pristine & literally seemed to'dance' in the electrifying leche de tigre, which was the perfect balance of frais & acide. The crunch from the cancha corn & the sweet contrast of the patate douce made every bite a symphony of texture & flavour. We couldn't resist adding the fried calamari on top-a brilliant, crispy addition that complemented the ceviche beautifully.
For our main, we shared the Arroz con Mariscos. This was a masterpiece of coastal Peruvian comfort, elevated to fine dining. The rice, cooked in a rich, creamy sauce of aji panka & shrimp bisque, had the luxurious consistency of a risotto. Packed with tender mussels, calamari, & octopus, & enriched with edamame, red peppers, cream, & parmesan, it was deeply flavourful & utterly satisfying. The fresh salsa criolla on top cut through the richness with a bright, refreshing note.
Every element was a testament to authentic technique & incredible freshness. Our lunch at Barranco was more than a meal; it was a memorable journey to the coasts of Peru, right in the heart of Montreal. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough & will certainly be returning to explore more of their menu. An absolute gem!
We were sat at the bar which wasn't ideal since our service was spotty. The food had a nice presentation style, the ceviche, pio pio tacos & plantain chips were good, but the lamb shank tasted a bit gamey for our liking, & the drinks were fancy.
It is the first place where I've tried ceviche & do not regret the least, it was delicious. The staff was very nice & highly responsive. I ordered the Chaufita con su chicharron, it was very good & well portionned. Also tried their mocktails'El mentiroso' &'Grapefruit Chicha', they were both delicious! The grapefruit one is probably my favorite
Excellent experience, las tostadas del puerto,la salade de pieuvre, le pain doré de tropiques & le café de la olla délicieux, chilaquiles piel canela & pancakes del amanecer bon
Wow!! super service, menu varié, ambiance super. Nous avons passer une très belle soirée. Expérience à refaire.
Merci à notre hôtesse Leonie très attentionnée qui a fait une belle différence pour cette occasion spéciale.
Delicioso si eres peruano y comes aji pidete el ceviche rocoto fresco picante y delis
Amazing food & great service from Emma. Ceviche just as good as at La Mar in Lima!
Délicieux beaucoup de choix

2 weeks ago I made a reservation here for my birthday after discovering the restaurant through Mtl a table. Needless to say I was very much looking forward to dining here but the night was off to a very rough start: despite making a reservation over a week in advance, my family & I were made to wait 40 minutes before being sat. Had this been a walk-in it we would've understood but having to wait this long with a reservation was unacceptable. When we tried to express our concern to the hostess & waitress, none seemed to acknowledge us.
It wasn't until we spoke to Shaheen, the manager, that things took a complete 180. He personally tended to our table the whole night & really pampered us like royalty. I have truly never felt more special dining somewhere, he really went out of his way to make up for our wait. This was such a memorable & overwhelmingly positive experience overall that our initial disappointment was long forgotten by the end of the night
Shaheen, if you read this, thank you so much for taking care of me & my family, you have definitely made us loyal customers & we can't wait to be back!
Went for the Mtl a Table event. Menu consisted of an appetizer, main & dessert, for $50. I had the grilled octopus, the mahi mahi ceviche & the chocolate mousse. Everything was good. There were 4 of us so we got to try everything on that menu. The brussels sprouts were surprisingly good. The fried rice was a bit too salty. But all in all a pleasant meal. Service was great. Our waitress was so friendly.
Easy to give a high rating because the service & atmosphere were wonderful! The food was good, but every dish was just a bit too salty with not much else going on flavour-wise. Nothing I was blown-away by. Desserts were excellent.
