BarBara is a genuinely lovely spot, both inside & out. The indoor space feels warm & stylish, & the outdoor area has a great vibe, perfect for a relaxed evening.The only downside was the wait time, which stretched to over an hour. It definitely tested our patience, especially given how inviting the place looks from the moment you arrive.Once seated, though, the food was great & the service was friendly & attentive, making the experience much smoother from that point on. Overall, Bar Bara is a beautiful place with great food & service, but be prepared for a long wait if it's busy.

Bar Bara is a total disgrace. I honestly couldn't be more disappointed in a restaurant. This place used to have some of the most incredible Viennoiserie pastries in all of Montreal. They were so good that I didn't even dare leave a review because they were made in such small batches by the most talented pastry chef & I didn't want to risk it becoming too popular. Unfortunately, today I was served one of the worst pain au chocolat I've ever seen. It was the kind I would expect to get at a gas station. The top was soft & full of moisture. I didn't even need to take a bite. I immediately returned it to the waiter & said, this is not your normal pain au chocolat. What happened? The waiter knew that he had to come clean & told me they lost their amazing pastry chef & are now bringing these disgusting pastries in from outside, clearly some cheap supplier. What an absolute disgrace to swap the most premium product with such a low quality substitute. If you lost your pastry chef, then stop serving pastries or pay to bring them in from a premium bakery. But to try & trick your loyal patronage with this garbage is a sin & the death of any good restaurant. Where is your integrity, Bar Bara?
UPDATE: I read the owner's response & knew immediately they were lying about getting their Vienoisserie from Boulangerie Automne - one of the BEST croissants in the city, which I've had many times. A call to Boulangerie Automne confirmed what I already knew - these were NOT from Automne - they stopped buying from them a month ago. So this owner is not only cheap but is clearly a liar & wildly unethical. You truly have no integrity or ethics to drag an incredible Montreal bakery's name & reputation in a sad, pathetic attempt to try & save your own. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR, BAR BARA.

Belle ambiance! Le service est bon, sans être exceptionnel.
C'était ma première visite au Barbara, & j'ai rapidement eu l'impression d'être dans un endroit très achalandé, presque comme une chaîne. Les réservations ne sont pas permises - c'est premier arrivé, premier servi - & la clientèle est au rendez-vous! On sent que les serveurs doivent aller vite & gérer plusieurs tables à la fois.
Nous avons attendu entre 45 minutes & 1 heure pour avoir une table, mais il est possible de prendre un verre dans l'aire d'attente, ce qui est une belle idée.
Concernant les plats, je m'attendais à des pâtes fraîches, ce qui n'était pas le cas. Cela dit, les plats sont tout de même goûteux & variés. Par contre, j'ai demandé du parmesan & je m'attendais à avoir du parmesan fraîchement râpé ou en copeaux. On m'a plutôt servi du parmesan de type « Kraft », ce qui a malheureusement nui à mon expérience.
Au final, ce sont ces petits détails qui font en sorte que, malgré une expérience globalement agréable, on ressent davantage un fort roulement de clients qu'une ambiance cozy & une expérience plus personnalisée.

Excellent restaurant, & par conséquent, toujours bondé que ce soit un vendredi soir (avec un temps d'attente extrêmement long), ou alors un lundi soir (avec un temps d'attente un ti peu moins long)! Si vous êtes aussi rempli, c'est bon signe!
Mais ça serait mieux de pouvoir faire une réservation avant de venir…

Expérience très décevante à l'instant. Nous sommes venues dans ce bar-restaurant pour passer une bonne soirée. En arrivant, le serveur nous a demandé si nous voulions manger ou boire. Nous avons répondu que nous pensions commencer par boire un verre, sans encore savoir si nous allions aussi manger.
Dès le début, il nous a parlé de manière condescendante. Quand nous nous sommes installées & que nous avons demandé la carte de nourriture, il a refusé en disant que nous avions dit vouloir seulement boire. Le ton était désagréable & nous nous sommes senties prises de haut.
Au final, l'accueil était tellement mauvais que nous sommes simplement parties. Dommage, car nous étions venues pour passer une bonne soirée.
Bar Bara is absolutely fantastic. The cacio e pepe is a true classic, perfectly creamy & flavorful every time, & the focaccia is always insane, soft, airy, & packed with flavor.
Be aware that there are no reservations, so be prepared to wait, but it's totally worth it. A must-visit spot
