Sparrow is a delightful casual restaurant on St. Laurent Blvd (just north of Fairmount), in an area with a number of other eateries. The ambiance is dark wood interiors with a bohemian flair with a super size street facing window...so that the restaurant is both dark & light at the same time. Seating is mostly at tables but there are a few bench side options as well as the window abutting coach (low to the ground but a very chill place to chat & snack).
We had a weekend brunch...enjoying the scones & jam (surprisingly very good, the scone was served warm with a nice helping of devon cream...but the strawberry jam could have been better), the Fried Egg with Sage (very good), the Belgian Waffle (excellent although the portion was a touch too small) & a Green Salad (very good but simple). We also enjoyed some nice coffees & smoothies.
Service was very attentive & friendly adding to the experience. On the late Saturday morning we visited, there were a large number of young family with kids just finishing up, so this appears to be a great place for an early breakfast for the young ones. Enjoy!
Je n’ai pas entamé mon repas que déjà je suis de belle humeur. Un message d’une amitié que je croyais perdue s’affiche dans ma boîte de réception alors que je prenais place sur le banc rembourré du bar le Moineau. Il est sincère, chaleureux, comme un baume sur le cœur. De même, à son image, l’engageant plat de cilbir (œufs turcs) que m’indique la barmaid ajoute une couche de plaisir : saucer le pain grillé au levain, à la fois croustillant & moelleux, dans ce yogourt à l’aneth & à l’air, beurre noisette & huile de piment relève du pur bonheur.
L’un des avantages de manger en solo est de pouvoir prêter davantage attention à son environnement. Je crois reconnaître l’un des copropriétaires du local qui fait la conversation avec des commensaux. Allègre, il leur verse un verre de vin. Il n’est que midi, mais l’heure est à la réjouissance & peut-être à la célébration d’un partenariat ou d’une vieille amitié. À ma gauche, un musicien entretient une conversation avec la barmaid, peu sollicitée à ce moment, qui est tout ouïe & tout sourire.
Je termine avec gourmandise mon assiette & j’examine le menu à nouveau à la recherche de quelques choses à rapporter à la maison. Tiens, les sandwichs, pourquoi pas Un za’atar & un naan, s’il vous plaît?! Malheureusement, ces deux choix font pâle figure face aux œufs turcs en raison de leur manque de caractère, & ce, en dépit de leur agréable apparence. Je regrette de ne pouvoir fournir de commentaires plus constructifs que cette vague impression qu’ils pourraient être retravaillés (pour en avoir goûté de meilleurs ailleurs, mais loin de moi l'idée de m'ériger en expert !). Je me retrouve donc avec une boîte pour emporter remplie de deux moitiés de sandwich dont le succès à la maison reste incertain.
Toutefois, il est clair que le temps de la déjeunette demeure populaire & quelques groupes attendent patiemment leur tour. J’imagine que l’esthétique des lieux rappelant une taverne en fait un endroit propice aux rencontres. Je souhaite également souligner le service courtois du personnel.
Si je reviens, j’essayerai leur déjeuner turc dont j’avais lu du grand bien.

One time, years ago, i received very upsetting information here once while on a date. I was very angry & in the bathroom i hit the wall. Im sorry, Sparrow. The wall did not break. Good walls

Delicious cocktails & very good food. Nice staff. Excellent service. It is too bad that food portions are now split & food prices recently went up. Brunch menu is really original & flavorful.
Wonderful laid back neighborhood bar, excellent cocktail, comfort food, loved the musical playlist & friendly & efficient service. To top it all it’s affordable, I will be back!
Came in for a late lunch. The food was decent but the service was virtually non-existent. There's no excuse for making a patron feel like & unwelcome intruder in your establishment. At that point, you might as well just close the front door.

J'ai bien aimé ma première expérience au Sparrow. L'endroit est conviviale, le service est amical & rapide.
Agréablement surprise par la nourriture qui comble parfaitement un petit creux de fin de soirée !
