About

Bangkok Express serves a comprehensive selection of traditional Thai dishes characterized by the bold interplay of spicy, sour, sweet, and salty flavor profiles. The kitchen emphasizes high heat stir-frying techniques and fragrant aromatics, utilizing essential ingredients like fresh lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and bird's eye chilies. Signature menu items include various coconut milk-based curries, noodle preparations such as pad thai, and classic stir-fried protein dishes served with steamed jasmine rice. The dining environment focuses on efficiency and accessibility, reflecting a casual approach to Southeast Asian culinary staples. Patrons encounter a straightforward menu design that prioritizes consistency in seasoning and ingredient preparation across all offerings. This establishment provides a direct culinary experience rooted in the authentic flavor foundations and spice hierarchies prevalent within regional Thai cooking practices.

Review Summary

Bangkok Express is frequently described as a favorite local spot known for its generous portions, authentic flavors, and welcoming atmosphere, especially regarding its popular summer terrace. While many patrons praise the friendly, professional service and high-quality dishes like the Pad Thai, curries, and soups, opinions on consistency remain divided. Some diners express disappointment regarding fluctuating food quality, recent menu pricing changes such as rice no longer being included with curries, and occasional service lapses. Despite mixed experiences with consistency and rigid policies, the restaurant retains a dedicated following that appreciates the overall value, diverse menu options, and the pleasant, lively environment provided to guests.

Very bad service! Staff does not care about accommodating it's clients. Staff is slow, inattentive & inexperienced. Skip this one for more customer oriented restaurants.

The food was just awful. I ordered the peanut sauce chicken with sticky rice, the rice was so overcooked that I could not cut it with a knife. I tried with a knife because my fork would not go through the rice.
I called the waitress & she was very insulting, she asked me if I know what sticky rice is? I told her that I eat sticky rice often & I cook it at home.
She also asked me if I know anything about sticky rice? I tried to hold my cool because I was in the company of another person.
I have eaten at other Thai restaurants before & I have never had sticky rice that was so overcooked & as hard as a rock.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. furthermore, I had to ask them to adjust the bill to remove the sticky rice that I returned to the kitchen.

After waiting for 10 minutes at the door to be seated, our presence was finally acknowledged & we went to eat on the terasse. The appetizers (fried dumplings & egg rolls) were quite good. The 2 entrees were garlic chicken (very small chicken pieces) & the Pad Thai which really disappointed me as it was quite greasy & had very little meat & only 2 small shrimp. Prices are quite reasonable & service is passable.

This restaurant has evolved from a tiny hole-in-the-wall with no liquor license (but tasty food) to a spacious & casually elegant eatery with a wine list. We have lived in NDG since 2008 & have been there many times over the years for a tasty & inexpensive Thai meal-delicious! They now even have a terrasse.

Started with poor service with 35 min to get water
Food is truly mediocre, save money go to Thai express, much better pad thai
Fish was barely cooked. Fried noodles tasted cardboard
Sorry, not going back there!
