Review Summary

Reviews of Bangkok Express show a mix of strong value and flavor with generous portions and reasonable prices, and many praise the choo chee fish, various curries, and dumplings for authentic Thai flavors, along with a bright, relaxing atmosphere. Service is described as friendly and attentive by many, but several visits mention slower or inconsistent service and dishes arriving lukewarm or with the wrong protein, and some meals are noted as too salty, oily, or lacking rice with curries. The terrace and takeout options are appreciated by diners, and a loyal crowd keeps returning, though a few reviewers say consistency has slipped compared with earlier visits. Overall Bangkok Express is seen as a solid Thai option in Montreal with standout items and good value, yet experiences can vary by visit.

They have a lunch special, which is $17.95 & includes a coffee or tea, but they will not let you substitute a soda (even though a soda on the menu is the same price as a coffee or tea). I do not like hot drinks. I was very angry because this policy made no logical sense, but I stayed polite. I ate the lunch special & tipped 15% because I do not like confrontation. I should have just walked out then: a place that will nickel & dime you like that is probably cutting corners on the food too. The menu looked alright, but the lunch special was the cheapest option, & even that seemed too high. I will not be back, despite living 3 blocks away. Imperial roles were super greasy.

Visiting from the states, it was a frigid December day walking the hood. We saw Bangkok Express on Monk & we stopped in to lunch & get warm. The menu was limited but flexible. The service was good & particularly friendly once we began chatting with the servers. Inside was calming & brightly lit thanks to all of the tall windows letting in natural light. We were pleasantly surprised & would visit again if in the area. I think this location has a lot of regulars.

What's happened to this place? Food used to be flavourful, with good sized portions & excellent service. Not any more. Food was just so so & expensive, unprofessional, rude servers. I was wondering why the restaurant was empty at lunch time.
Now I know.
Will not return.

SO YUMMY! I find it challenging to get good Thai food in Montreal, & this place made my year when I discovered it. Their lunch specials are delicious & affordable. My favorite used to be beef & eggplant until they swapped that out & I tried the cashew tofu. Out of this world! The ambiance is great, they have a patio in the summertime & although it gets jampacked with people, the servers are always on top of their game. Highly recommend!

Always fresh, hot & ready to eat. The chicken was crispy enough without being overdone. Served with rice & stir fried with yummy veggies. I have also had the bass fish on previous occasions, which is so good....!!! Out server was great & had all explanations needed for my friend dining there for the first time. Always a casual & very friendly atmosphere. I'll be going back for sure !! We had the lunch menu at a good price.

I came here for the first time with my sister for lunch & we didn't know that the menu was different for lunch & dinner but we really enjoyed it! The waiter & waitress who served us were very kind & friendly. The sauce for the main meal was a bit too strong (not spicy but like too salty kind of) but we really loved all the food we got!

Went here for a late lunch. Service: was a little slow(was not to busy), but the girl was so friendly & cheery even if she looked very stressed out. food: was good, but it was expensive & the amount they give was not that much. I get, inflation, but 18$ for fried rice is crazy for the amount that was given. Overall, food & service was good, but goodness was it expensive.

A friend of mine & I recently had lunch at Bangkok Express on Monkland Street in NDG, Montreal. We ordered the luncheon special, which included an imperial roll following by chicken in peanut sauce with fried spinach. I expected to receive two rolls as an entrée but we were served only one, which I thought frankly was cheap. The main dish of chicken in peanut sauce was good however the fried spinach is normally cooked with a slightly sweet coating, which in this case, was missing. The service at this Bangkok Express was good & the dishes were served promptly. There was nothing particularly noteworthy about this restaurant, the food was the same as I've had numerous times in other Thai or Asian restaurants. They probably use the same wholesale food supplier.
