Despite some observations regarding pricing and wait times, the overall consensus points to a vibrant, delicious, and must-visit spot that consistently delivers quality food in a beautifully designed setting.
Pizza was good, but too expensive for what you get. My biggest issue was paying for **fountain** drinks ($3,50 each) & getting charged for refills.
Edit: turns out the drinks are from cans & not a fountain. That justifies the lack of refills & I will adjust my star rating. The drinks tasted pretty bad & cheap though & were kinda flat for coming from a can.
Decided to pick up a pie, & bring back to hotel. Placed order with the server, & I was forced to tip gratuity on a pick up. I asked a server how to not place a tip, & the server wouldn't acknowledge other options, only that I had to tip in order to pay the bill.
I've never been forced to tip when ordering food out, but I was hungry, & just wanted to leave. Pizza was good, but they also didn't cut the pizza, so I had to peel the pizza apart in hotel.
These are the reasons why I will not go back.
Food was great, pizza & focaccia are a must try, drinks were decent, the size was pretty small for the price & service was fine too. Atmosphere was lovely, would definitely give it a try if you're in the old Montreal area!
La nourriture était très décevante. Quasinement pas de légumes sur la pizza végé & les pâtes ricotta-épinards n'avaient rien de sensationnel. Nous n'y retournons pas.
We stopped at Balboa for an evening meal after a day of sightseeing in Montreal. The name immediately caught my attention-being a huge Rocky fan, I was hoping for a little'Yo, Adrian!' kind of experience. Unfortunately, the reality was nowhere near the movie. 😂
We ordered a Margarita pizza, another white pizza, a local Quebec beer, & a drink for my wife. The food itself was hot, fresh, high-quality, & genuinely tasty. Unfortunately, the service & atmosphere made the experience much less enjoyable.
It honestly looked like half the staff had called out. One waitress was running around trying to keep up with every table, a young gentleman was simultaneously mixing drinks, & another employee was doing her best to manage seating. The whole place felt extremely hectic, loud, & overcrowded. My wife's drink was also forgotten, & our food took roughly 20-30 minutes to arrive.
I completely understand that restaurants get slammed, & I wouldn't mind the chaos as much at a casual fast-food spot. But when you're spending $100+ on what is essentially two 12-inch pizzas & drinks, expectations naturally go up. At that price point, I expect the experience to be part of the meal-not something I have to fight through.
The food deserves credit because it was really good. Unfortunately, the service & chaotic atmosphere overshadowed it for us.
Ate here recently & normally don't leave reviews but the service & food was just incredible. Some the the best pizza I've had in Montreal, & our server Zoya was a breath of fresh air. She had amazing recommendations, a great sense of humor, & was incredibly attentive. I told her about my food sensitivities & preferences & she told me what vegetarian item on the menu would be a good fit, & offered a great & reasonable priced wine pairing. Had a great time here & will definitely come again.
