Welcome to Baba Hamdi, the best Egyptian restaurant located in Châteauguay. Operated by none other than Chef Hamdi (with over 40 years of experience and former owner of La Villa Bella and Coin méchoui), the restaurant offers a tantalizing menu featuring colorful and flavorful dishes. Mixed grills, shish taouks, shawarmas, authentic Egyptian dishes such as moussaka and shakshuka, chicken, salads... everything is mouth-watering.
Overall, Baba Hamdi delivers an authentic Egyptian dining experience with warm hospitality and a cozy, inviting interior. The menu features favorites such as hummus with warm Egyptian style pita, koshari, kofta, molokhia, and mosakka, with many reviewers praising the homemade hummus as a standout. Reviews note generous portions and good value, even when prices are a bit higher, and describe the food as thoughtfully prepared and consistently delicious. The atmosphere is described as welcoming and family friendly, with attentive service and the chef engaging with guests. A few notes mention slower service but the overall quality makes it worth the wait, and Ramadan specials like macaroni bechamel add to the experience. Many comments highlight the sense of returning, the ability to host private events in a large room, and the feeling of tasting memories of Egypt in Chateauguay.
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm & welcoming. We tried a variety of traditional Egyptian dishes, & everything was absolutely delicious-full of rich flavors & clearly made with care & authenticity. It's not every day you find food that feels both comforting & exciting at the same time.
The service was friendly & attentive, & you can really tell they take pride in what they do. If you're looking to explore authentic Egyptian cuisine or just want a memorable dining experience, this place is a must-visit.
I had the vegetarian platter & it was very tasty, nicely presented & the portions were good. The hummus & warm Egyptian style pita was delicious. My wife had the grilled lamb & big smiles all around.
My father in law used to make us all the staple foods from Egypt. We didn't appreciate how spoiled we were until he passed away a year ago. I brought my mother in law to Baba Hamdi so we could eat the dishes we once had every day around her dining table & baba Hamdi did not disappoint. The Ramadan menu included macaroni béchamel & it only added to our experience.
I am very greatful for this restaurant & being able to enjoy a bit of Egypt here in Chateauguay.
Baba Hamdi cuisine égyptienne delivers an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. From the outside, you'd never guess how stunning the interior is! Once inside, you're welcomed by warm, traditional décor that feels both authentic & inviting. The open-style layout is a great touch, allowing you to watch the owner preparing dishes in the kitchen, which adds to the charm & authenticity of the experience.
The food was fantastic across the board, but the homemade hummus truly stole the show. It was so good that I ended up buying two containers to take home. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared with care & attention to detail. The owner is incredibly kind & welcoming, clearly passionate about his food & his restaurant, & the wait staff were equally friendly & attentive.
While it's a bit pricier, the portion sizes & quality more than justify the cost. This is an easy return spot, & honestly, I'd come back just for the hummus alone. An outstanding experience all around.

We went to this restaurant a while back because we wanted to try authentic Egyptian food. We were very impressed with everything. The salad, bread & hummus he brings out before the main dish is fresh & delicious. The main course we had involved chicken & rice & it was very good as well. It was well worth the wait since that's the only drawback we could find. Which is that the service is a bit slow but acceptable for the quality you're getting. You can tell the owner cares about the quality of the food he serves.
Being Egyptian, we've been looking for a good Egyptian restaurant for a while. & we are super glad we found Baba Hamdi. We made the drive from Terrebonne because we wanted to try, & boy are we happy that we did!
Everything was delicious, prices reasonable, & everything authentic.
Koshari, kofta, molokhia… I'm getting hungry that typing this out. Not to mention finishing the evening with some mint tea. Just a perfect evening for my mother's birthday.
Would recommend in a heartbeat!
