We went to Aux Vivres at Westmount for a late lunch before heading to the airport. The experience started off very well-the server was friendly, the food was very good, & we were enjoying our meal.
Unfortunately, the experience took a disappointing turn toward the end. While we still had food on our plates, my young son wanted to use the restroom, so I got up to take him. Without any context, the server came over & said,'I see you guys are taking off, did you want the bill?' My husband & I were genuinely taken aback. I explained that I was simply taking my son to the restroom, at which point she stepped back & said,'Oh, okay.'
The interaction left us extremely uncomfortable. There was absolutely no indication that we intended to leave without paying, & it was particularly jarring to be treated as though that was a possibility while we were still in the middle of our meal.
We were the only family of color in the restaurant, so naturally, the interaction made us question what prompted that assumption. I hope the management takes this seriously & provides staff with better training around customer service, unconscious bias, & how assumptions about customers can come across.
We ultimately paid a bill of around $100 & tipped generously because we did not want this interaction to affect how we treated the rest of the staff. Unfortunately, it did affect our overall experience & left a very bad taste at the end of what had otherwise been a lovely meal.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend the restaurant.
Quelle belle découverte! Un service hors pair, une nourriture délicieuse & généreuse & des prix plus que corrects pour la quantité! J'y retournerai assurément! Merci à notre serveuse Kelly pour son service & ses recommandations ❤?
I have had food from Aux Vivres many times (going all the way back to when they were in a small spot on saint Dominique), & while my girlfriend's order (the gyro) was tasty & a nice large portion filled with plenty of crispy lettuce, tomatoes, pickled onions & delicious tzatziki; my order, le royal cheeze, was just a disappointment. There was a sad single leaf of lettuce, single slice of tomato, & a patty that was pasty & underwhelming.
For the price I felt pretty unhappy, as I seriously could have just gone to A&W if I wanted something better than what I got.
For those interested in an amazing vegan burger experience I'd recommend not having one here, stick to their bowls (the dragon is a classic) or the wraps, & go to LOV for a burger that's worth paying 22$ for.
I go to Aux Vivres once a week on Mondays, & it is consistently excellent. The food is always fresh, vibrant, & delicious.
A huge thank you to Natasha, who serves me on a regular basis. She is so sweet & always recommends the best dishes on the menu. Thank you, Natasha, for adding so much warmth to my weekly visits & making every meal special!
Being vegetarians it is difficult for us to to find places that have great food, multiple options & an even fantastic ambience. This place checked all boxes!!!
We ordered Golden pancakes & The Okonomiyaki Burger & absolutely loved it. Highly recommend this place & definitely coming back again soon.
My sandwich was sooooo good. & the server was really nice & it was super filling. You can't even tell that it's healthier or vegan. I really recommend going with your vegan & nonvegan friends it's the perfect post-workout meal 🤤😋 oh & the smoothie is soooo good I need the recipe 😉
I love their food & drinks here! Definitely a favourite! The staff is great & the restaurant is a very nice vibe! Vegan or not it is great food & would recommend it! Their potato wedges, Dahl soup & chai lattes are the best !
