Aux Chantignoles offers a beautiful and atmospheric setting by the water, which many guests find visually appealing. While some diners enjoy the service and overall experience, consistent concerns persist regarding the value and execution of the food. Critics frequently point out that portion sizes are often disappointing, particularly for steak dishes, and that the quality of ingredients occasionally fails to meet the expectations set by the pricing. Opinions remain divided, with some visitors praising the meals while others express significant frustration with the lack of culinary finesse and inconsistent kitchen performance.
We traveled over 5 hours just to visit this place for the first time, so we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty disappointing, especially considering this is a 4.5 star hotel with a top-rated restaurant
I came here for a light birthday dinner since we had a long drive home afterward. We decided to share a few dishes so we wouldn't get too full or sleepy while driving. Unfortunately, I felt like our table was mostly ignored. Our server was attentive to the other tables around us but barely checked on us
The food was okay overall, but the prime rib… at $74 we expected much better… we finished it because we didn't want to waste the food but for that price it was hard to justify
What bothered me most tho was the attitude & overall service. When I asked about the dessert menu, I was aggressively asked if I was already finished with my food. Even asking for an extra plate so we could share felt unnecessarily uncomfortable
I understand that we weren't dressed up fancy & that we weren't ordering a large amount of food. But EVERYONE deserves the same level of service & respect, regardless of how they're dressed or how much they order :)
Overall, I personally found this place overrated. Maybe we just caught the staff on a bad day, or maybe we were just unlucky(?) but given how excited we were to finally visit it was unfortunately a pretty disappointing experience
Very disappointed with dinner & food quality for the high prices being charged. You can find high end restaurants that can do much better for less money. However, the service & ambiance were great. Too bad the food for wasn't a wow, just plain flavour & bad execution.
Nous avons mangé au buffet leur du dejeuner & à deux reprises au souper leur de notre séjour. La nourriture & service étaient excellents. Nous allons revenir assurément.
We went for lunch right at opening, very quiet Saturday lunch service with just one other table. In terms of flavour, the brie prosciutto & fig toast that I ordered was great, but it's not really a hard thing to mess up on. However, if you're going to call something'toastine' it should really be specified on the menu that it's served on a small portion of untoasted flatbread. It didn't feel like 24$ was worth it for that plate I got. The atmosphere is gorgeous though, right by the water, beautiful interior. The hotel really doesn't disappoint in terms of atmosphere. Just wished that for a restaurant we were this excited to experience & that we drove over 1 hour for that the food would've wowed us. I do need to say, steaks are what any customer are anticipating to try, & their expectations will be high; if this is going to be on your menu, lunch or dinner, the execution of the dish needs to match the price point set & the customer's request on the first shot. A 41$ flank steak shouldn't come out overcooked, & the portions were laughable, same as the wagyu burger. I'm not sure how these plates made it past the pass, or who was running it…
TLDR; lunch is probably not the strongest service they offer & maybe don't get their steaks. Go to a steakhouse & for the same prices & you'll get a whole lot better & bigger portions that are worth that price point. I'll probably give this restaurant another shot for their dinner service instead or their brunch.
Unfortunately a major disappointment. I had been wanting to dine at the chateau for a few years & this was the first time it worked out & I had the time to do so. Service was lacking despite there being virtually no one at the restaurant. One person at the table received the wrong type of wine for their sangria - no big deal - the server did offer to change it. However, the server took the drink away instead of just leaving it on the table... What kind of service is that? Now as for the food, it has to be the worst I have had at an establishment of this kind. I was served maybe 3 ounces of'flank' steak, originally ordered as medium rare & received VERY well done. I did not even bring this up to the server because there is no way the kitchen, the bus boy, & the server did not notice. They just do not care. There were more mushrooms on my plate than meat. At this price just ridiculous. Further, the'wagyu' burger tasted like something you would order at a poutine shack. The meat tasted like frozen subpar grocery meat. I am extremely disappointed with this experience & I hope this serves as a warning to others expecting a nice lunch or dinner here.
