This is a restaurant review, we didn't stay at the auberge.
We were seated quickly on the terrace with a beautiful view of the lake. It's a delightful location, & the auberge has been beautifully renovated.
We chose the mussels & the fish & chips from the lunch menu, along with an excellent Petit Chablis.
The serving staff were wonderful - friendly & attentive, very professional & welcoming.
The food arrived quickly, & the pesentation was excellent. Our meals were delicious, particularly the subtle strawberry & tarragon tomato sauce with the copious portion of mussels, albeit a little on the salty side for my taste.
The fish & chips were delicious, with fine, crispy batter. However, I was disappointed with the size of the cod portion - for the price there should have been 3 pieces at least. The fries portion was also a little on the small side, & the fries, while hot, were soft & soggy. The dish might have been more accurately described as'two bites of battered fish'... That said, tartare sauce was clearly home made & probably one off the best I've ever tasted anywhere in Canada.
I should add that when we mentioned the small fries portions our server immediately offered us an extra portion of fries, so full marks there.
All in all a delicious meal at a truly delightful location, a great experience marred slightly the stingy fish portion.
Superbe terrasse au bord du lac! Les plats étaient savoureux, les cocktails & le vin délicieux. Un endroit parfait pour profiter d'un bon repas avec vue magnifique.
Wonderful lakeside terrace! The food was flavorful & refined, great wine list & cocktails. Perfect place to enjoy a great meal with a beautiful view.
Great lunch with a great view in a beautiful setting. Our first time back since it was newly renovated. Exquisitely done. The service was outstanding. Highly recommend.
We celebrated our son's 18th birthday & had a lovely dinner in the Inn. Although we did not stay over, the restaurant & bar were beautiful, & the service was great. I hope to return in the summer when we can experience more of the view.
I had lunch with my husband & friend on Friday. We were so pleased with the whole experience! The setting was beautiful with a view of the lake & the restaurant was quiet. So happy there was no loud music playing as some of us have hearing issues. We were able to enjoy our conversations. Thank you! The food was delicious with 2 having the fish & chips (beautiful piece of cod with a light crisp batter) & I had the gnocchi with wild mushrooms, peas & pancetta. Excellent! With a glass of wine it was the perfect lunch. This is the third time since July that my husband & I have brought friends & dined at Auberge McGowan. We will definitely be back to enjoy a winter meal. Hopefully in front of your fireplace. Here is a picture from our July lunch.
Unfortunately must revise my review after years of dining at the Inn as a result of finally staying there. It seems for such a small inn there's a lack of communication & poorly run administration & service. The inn attempted to charge for more nights then actually stayed, need to show them evidence of the date called to confirm the reservation. Then after requesting that they prepare the sofa bed from my children to sleep in as we were arriving back late after a wedding, coming back to the room quite late to find it was not done. & there was no linen in the room to do it myself. A single kitchen staff member still onsite cleaning provided some linen. This was completely unacceptable for an inn of this caliber. I requested that the Manager call be back to discuss this when speaking to staff, & that call never came. The lack of accountability an unprofessionalism seems to be consistent. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. As for the restaurant, great spot for lunch with a great view of the lake. We've been here many times throughout the summer & it's always just as charming as Georgeville itself
This hotel is beautiful. The beds are comfy, the decor is nice & the view is stunning. So, I was surprised to note that the service was no match for the aesthetics. For the money we paid per night (approx $400/night), I would have expected maybe a bottle of water in the room, or not to be balked at when I asked for extra towels, or have the room serviced/clean or, at the very least, have someone come in & empty the garbages. They should tell the customers that once they check in, that's where the service ends.
