Finally tried out Au Pied de Cochon & the food & presentation did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the way that everything was prepared & served was amazing, & the service we got when the waiters were bringing over our meals was amazing.
Unfortunately, our middle aged waiter with a fu manchu moustache who took our orders, filled waters etc., was not great. He didn't seem happy to be serving us, he made a few weird comments & most of our table felt weird & uncomfortable. We then had a miscommunication at the end of our meal about the bill situation, which happens. He brought one bill for 7 guys & when we asked him if he could do them separately he put a fuss, told us he didn't want to be a jerk but it would take him a while to get all of that organized. I said ok that would be great, & he disappeared in a huff, muttering as he walked away & didn't come back for easily 20-30 minutes. We had another reservation that we were already late for because of him so half of our group left to go to that & when he finally came back he made a comment about half of our group leaving. He then proceeded to pull out a piece of paper & ask us what we all had. So that whole time he was gone he didn't even do anything for our table. We finally just folded & put it on one bill so we could get out of there & go to our next reservation which we were already an hour late for because of his extremely slow service. I would easily give this place 5 stars based on the rest of our experience but this waiter was one of the worst I've ever had, & frankly if I walked back in & he was my waiter again I'd ask for someone else. I think we all expected much better service when each person is spending a minimum $150-$200.
Absolutely phenomenal. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu. We got the Duck Temaki (10/10), Plogue a Champlain (a little too sweet for our palate but would make for a good dessert), Scallop Quenelle (light & delicious), & Plogue a Champlain (perfect). We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which I quite liked. Service was impeccable.

Always a fantastic experience at APC & sitting by the bar is always fun.
Thanking the bartender that noticed my wife is pregnant & made her a mocktail without asking. In addition didn't charge for it. Thank you!
The aged pork chop & maple fries were great! I ate the duck in the can, but have mixed feelings about it. Bread pudding was good but a little too sweet for my liking.
Tough call! Overall amazing & great service! To be honest I really got worried when it started, one of the two entrée we had was kind of lame & tasteless (a kind of salad with cheese & pink ham slice, best part of it was the fried cappers) which for the price got me in a weird place for a first experience... (onion soup was pretty solid tho!) But then the main dish saved it... That Canned duck is sooooo goood & most definitely worth it! The porc Jarret was great but definitely not at the same level!
Duck in a can is one the the highly recommend dish. This one is a must try & I am amazed with the taste & texture of the dish. The Nigari is also an amazing mix&match dish I highly recommend anyone to try. Other than that staffs are nice & friendly. Highly recommended for anyone who come to Montreal.
We were greeted by very friendly staff. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu & wine list. He poured our wine for us but never returned to top up our glasses, leaving us to do this ourselves. The support staff were great about topping up our waters. We received our first dishes an hour after we ordered without any communication that they were running behind & our next round of food another 25 minutes after that. The restaurant did not seem busy enough to warrant this. The foie gras, sweet breads & maple sugar fries were excellent but the pork shank & duck in a can were quite greasy & heavy. The restaurant itself looked quite tired. The yelling & ringing of the bell when guests bought drinks for the kitchen was obnoxious & really took away from the atmosphere. Celebrating drinking on the job seemed out of place for a restaurant charging $40-50 a plate.
Incredible dinner from beginning to end. Server was on top of filling our glasses & staying close but not hovering. Food was delicious, my partner loved the duck in a can & I enjoyed the duck temaki & Guinea fowl. Dessert did not disappoint, though we were stuffed to bursting we powered through. We did however have a long wait between courses. I think either the kitchen was backed up or they waited to put our food in. Either way I didn't even notice at the time & it actually paced the meal nicely.

Pleasant & enjoyable dinner at Au Pied du Cochon. The excellent food was matched by the attentive & pleasant wait staff who all go out of their way to make you feel at home. My favourites from the night were the sweetbreads & beef tripe.
We couldn't leave Montreal before trying this institution. We did not know to expect & tried to cultivate as much hunger as we could due to the warnings of extremely rich food. Let me say that the food is obviously quite rich but it is not unbalanced in any way. We had the oysters to begin with; they were fine but that's it, I think I wouldn't order them again as they were not so flavorful. We also tried the foie gras poutine that was very very good, opulent, not overly salted & addictive. Only thing is that maybe there could've been a few more fries there. To finish we had the aged pork chop that was properly sized & so so easy to eat, super tender, well grilled & it's perfect with its jus at the bottom also to have along the poutine. At the end of the meal we were really satisfied & didn't feel nasty full. I must mention that the wine list is very well made, concise & with great French wines but also a very well represented North American section. It was our final meal in a 4 night food trip to Montreal so maybe that influenced that we did not have a huge appetite. Cannot wait to go back & repeat.
