Food, service, & vibes were truly top class here.
We came in for a date night dinner & initially ordered the Onion soup, Plogue à Champlain, & their Duck in a Can. However after we got our soup appetizer we saw something that caught our eye, a whole roast pork head! We asked the service staff about it & it turns out it was an off-menu special they had missed mentioning to us. They were flexible with us & let us cancel the rest of our order & order the special instead
The result was entirely too much food for 2 people but it was a wonderful experience carving into our meal & eating something so incredibly rich & succulent. The pigs head was prepared much like a Peking Duck & so the skin was incredibly crisp & crackly & the inside meat was rich & juicy. It came with a platter of chun bing(the wraps typically served with pecking duck), a variety of sauces, & julienned radish, cucumbers, & garlic chives.
Needless to say it was incredibly delicious & the staff was very enthusiastic about our enjoyment. Will absolutely be coming back with more friends as we'll need to bring extra mouths to help finish all this next time!
Amazing service from their crew, & the showmanship every time they explain to us the food was awesome! Everything was delicious, & thank god they have bread to wipe off all the sauce from the dishes we ordered coz you really need it!
Foie Gras Nigiri was to die for
Duck in a Can was ok, duck was a but tough but everything else inside including the foie gras was delish
The tripe was really soft & melts in your mouth
Stuffed Guinea Fowl was one of our faves because of the soft & flavourful meat & sauce
Grilled Char was also another fave thanks to the sauce & well cooked fishVoir plus
We visited'Au pied de Cochon' with two friends & happily followed the lead of our host & shared most of the dishes. We enjoyed a bit-over-the-top but nevertheless scrumptious starters (duck temaki, fois gras nigiri & smoked trout) but the highlights were the mains: hearty the canned duck, tripes (esp. the way they were seasoned) & a light scallop quenelle - mouth-watering & sumptuous. Although I'm not much of a sweet tooth I was really happy with the restaurant's iteration of a typical Quebecois pudding emanating this hard to resist maple syrup aroma.
The service was outstanding, our hostess knew the menu backwards but didn't back out of sharing her personal favorites which made our choices easier (we were tempted by almost everything from the menu). All waiters & waitresses were bilingual.
A visit at'Pied de Cochon' was one of many highlights during our definitely too short stay in Montreal. Will happily visit again & again if only jumping over the pond would not take that much time.
Enjoy this gem of place!
PS I'd gladly write this review in French, but unfortunately my command of the language is much worse than of English. Then again another visit in'Au Pied de Cochon' is a great argument in re-learning French.Voir plus
I planned my entire trip to Montreal around eating at this restaurant. When the border agent at YUL asked me for the purpose of my visit, I said'to eat at Au Pied de Cochon.' It is an institution. Extremely indulgent, excellently executed food in a convivial, unpretentious atmosphere. Cornish hen stuffed with sweetbreads in a foie gras buerre blanc sauce? Tamakis with raw quail egg & duck tartare? Who gets to eat like this?? The staff's pride in their food is evident, & they make sure you have a great time. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I left grinning like an idiot & slept through breakfast. The only problem with my night was that I was all alone on my birthday.Voir plus
Food was excellent. Our favorite being the class foie gras dish from the foie gras part of the menu. The scallop & pork chop dishes from the main courses were also delicious. They accommodated our kids by putting sauces on the side. Cocktails & wine were also delicious. We had a wonderful experience.Voir plus
A wonderful experience. The wine, the appetizers, & every single dish was nuanced & delicious. The unexpected combinations were a treat for any palate. The absolute best part was the attentive & welcoming atmosphere & service. Not speaking any French, I was a little intimidated but everyone made us feel so welcomed & comfortable. I wish there was an option for a 6th star. Kudos to Cedric, Michael & Fred for making our night so magical.Voir plus
I had the Foie gras poutine & I must say that it was well worth itVoir plus
We were 2 guys at the bar & had an incredible experience. Arthur was a great waiter. The Beef tripe is simply unbeliveable & the Plogue a Champlain a must have. I'm already planning to go back soon.Voir plus
Finally tried out Au Pied de Cochon & the food & presentation did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the way that everything was prepared & served was amazing, & the service we got when the waiters were bringing over our meals was amazing.
Unfortunately, our middle aged waiter with a fu manchu moustache who took our orders, filled waters etc., was not great. He didn't seem happy to be serving us, he made a few weird comments & most of our table felt weird & uncomfortable. We then had a miscommunication at the end of our meal about the bill situation, which happens. He brought one bill for 7 guys & when we asked him if he could do them separately he put a fuss, told us he didn't want to be a jerk but it would take him a while to get all of that organized. I said ok that would be great, & he disappeared in a huff, muttering as he walked away & didn't come back for easily 20-30 minutes. We had another reservation that we were already late for because of him so half of our group left to go to that & when he finally came back he made a comment about half of our group leaving. He then proceeded to pull out a piece of paper & ask us what we all had. So that whole time he was gone he didn't even do anything for our table. We finally just folded & put it on one bill so we could get out of there & go to our next reservation which we were already an hour late for because of his extremely slow service. I would easily give this place 5 stars based on the rest of our experience but this waiter was one of the worst I've ever had, & frankly if I walked back in & he was my waiter again I'd ask for someone else. I think we all expected much better service when each person is spending a minimum $150-$200.Voir plus
Absolutely phenomenal. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu. We got the Duck Temaki (10/10), Plogue a Champlain (a little too sweet for our palate but would make for a good dessert), Scallop Quenelle (light & delicious), & Plogue a Champlain (perfect). We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which I quite liked. Service was impeccable.
